Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I would agree there is an issue with the 4S battery life. My friend has an iPhone 4 with iOS 5. It has been off the charger for 6 hours with 56 minutes of usage and still has 97% battery life. I have a 4S and it has been off the charger for 8.5 hours with 1.5 hours of usage and the battery life is 74%. I have restored my phone and did not use a back up which did help my battery life some but I would not consider 74% good when I only have only talked on the phone for 1min today and about 25 text.

32GB white 4S backed up from a 3GS backup on launch day. On AT&T network in Southern California.

After reading this thread for a few days I've tried a few things, turned off all of the auto data sending features, and have tweaked some of the push notifications off.

2 Nights ago, tuesday night the 25th, I decided to do the second full battery calibration since I've had the phone.

After the first full drain and recharge calibration, I noticed a small yet welcomed improvement to the battery life.

After the second full drain and recharge I have noticed a pretty significant improvement in battery life.

Yesterday morning at work I used the phone for some texts, some 3G browsing to maybe 20 pages, a few checks to Facebook, a few pictures, some quick calls, and a few other things. Light useage and actually lighter usage than normal. Though, yesterday I had WIFI off the whole day where as before I had WIFI on but not connected while at work all day.

It is now hour 30 and I am still at 40% battery remaining. That is definitely not what Apple has advertised, but it is better than my 3GS and satisfactory for me.

Any iPad 2 (or iPad) users notice a signifigant increase in the device's battery life w/ iOS 5? I sure have! My iPad 2 is getting amazing battery life and it's wifi & 3G at the same times as my phone. It also has everything turned on. (I was going to say something about size mattering but this is a serious discussion ).

    Today:

iP4S, 64GB, AT&T, all my stuff on 'cept Auto Time Zone

    7:00am = 100%

Very light use all day, this Gmail thread @ every 15 minutes, and music player

    4:40pm = 42%

Glad to see people are talking about this. My 4S battery life is terrible... even worse than my 3GS, even though all the settings are the same.

Another 4S battery drainer casualty. I have an Ipad that I synch to a windows PC. Got the new phone and synched to recreate my ipad on my new 4S as best I could then noticed the battery drainage issue on my unit. Read through all the posts I could find and tried them all (short of restore) without success.

Finally went to an Apple Store. Genius ran their diagnostics and could find nothing wrong with my 4S. Then talked about conducting a restore - which according to Genius is more in depth than if you do one at home (?). I said sure and it took all of 10 minutes. After the Apple Store restore, my drainage issue was gone.

Returned home and per Genius directions, I plugged my 4S into my PC and set it up as a new phone. Then I synched with itunes, selecting only those programs that were clearly iphone compatible and that I really wanted. Battery working great ever since. Starting with a full charge in the morning and using moderately I am at 80% at 5pm - good enough for me. Me thinks it was a 3rd party SW issue.

I also asked them about the awdd msgs - not the problem and is normal per Genius.

    Usage - 5 hours 44min

    Standby- 9 hours 38min

This did not help.  New phone is just as bugged as the old.  I don't know what is going on.  I kinda want my old 4 back now.  This is atrocious.

Well, here's what worked for me guys.

I was losing 10% an hour since release day. I had tried everything (or so I thought,) but yesterday afternoon I decided to do a full restore and set the phone up like a "new phone." Last night at 1:40AM the phone was fully charged 100%.

I unplugged it at that point and left it on my night stand, during the night I had Latitude and 3 push exchange email services running.

I woke up at 7AM and proceeded to get several phone calls, a miriad of texts and 2-5 e-mails per hour until the current time...

It is now 2:32 PM, and my battery is only at 71% with moderate usage.

    My stats say:

    Time since last full charge

    Usage: 2 Hours, 22 Minutes

    Standby: 12 Hours, 53 minutes.

This is with WIFI on and connected to a network for most of the day and two location reminders (reminding me to call/text some people after leaving my current location.) Siri was also enabled. I can't think of any other pertinent information other than I do not have iCloud enabled as I sync all my Contacts, Address Books and Mail with my GMAIL Exhange server.

This is now superb battery life, I'm glad I restored. I never put it on a charger today and at this time it would normally be hovering around 35%. I'm very satisfied.

By the way, I tried everything else, Reset Network Settings, Erase all Settings, restarts, hard resets, nothing but this solved my issue.

Question: Of those who are reporting issues, did you initally setup your phone over the air or via iTunes?
