Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Yeah I understand that and I dont really obsess over it either as long as I can do what I need between charges. (as you stated)  But again the point is Apple should be able to do a better job with these updates such they they dont require so much user restoring and setting and resetting and rebuilding and off and on just to make it work. Certainly it should not mess up a phone that WAS working fine.

While there are many variables with how folks use it and how they are setup and what apps they have, if I take a phone setup a certain way with certain apps and its working great, then all of a sudden an new update that highly paid enginneers worked on for 4 months actually makes a working phone not work anymore, well thats not a good thing. And if said update causes the end user to have to constantly restore ahd jump through hoops just to make their phone work the way its supposed to work from the vendor, well thats not really ok either after a while.

I mean a new device and new OS, sure there will be some glitches, a few patches here and there SHOULD make those initial glitches better not worse. Thats all I am saying.  And Apple is a very sophisticated company with a lot of smart people, I would expect 4 months of looking into current issues would work a bit better than it did.  I mean perhaps, dont add new camera buttons and other features at the moment and concentrate on fixing an existing issue that causes end users to not be able to simply update without a hassle and solve the ongoing issues that existed since day one MIGHT be a better game plan. iOS 5.1 fixes  the issues then iOS 5.1.1 adds a new button or whatever.  I still do like my phone and it is currently working fine so dont read in here I am totally dissatisfied with it. I am just dissatisfied that an update that took so long to come out did not work any better than it did (I mean even in your case a perfectly working phone now has slower data speeds and 10 hrs less battery life due to an update designed to make it better.)  And stating those facts is not really "obsessing" over it. Maybe 5.1.1.2.1.7.3 will make it better until we start over the process with iOS 6

I suspec that my loss of about 10 hours of battery life is as much because I finally ran the battery down to 5% and recharged, which recalibrated the battery chip.  I have updated 3 phones from 5.01 to 5.1, my wife's 3GS, her sister's 4, and my 4S, and none of them have requred anything but a normal update process, which went, in every case without a hitch.

I don't know why you have been having problems requiring a reset, but I do have one app that just doesn't work well with 5.1, and the company is working on a fix.  I suspect that there may be an app, or apps, that might be crashing, and not terminating properly.

My slower speeds seem to have returned to normal, so this may have been a local problem with the network as they move more to 4G LTE, rather than 3G.  Of course, since I am on ATT, my phone now says 4G.  It's magic!

Also, I suspect they did something to prevent the 'phantom usage' problem, which might take some processing time now and then which may impact battery life for those who didn't have the problem to fix those who did.  Programming can work like that sometimes.  In any case, I am not inclined to complain about a phone that can go for two days without requiring a recharge, with everything I want to use turned on.

It is in addition to, but simultaneous with 'standby'.

I understand what you mean but it is not "in addition to". In use time is not added to stanbdby time.

Standby is the total time including in use.

In use is the time it has been used, which is part of standby.

I think some people don't understand that as far as battery life is concerned, it IS added to, but the counts are maintained seperately, but are overlapping.  That is, standby is always going on, and usage is on top of that, battery drain wise.

As you can see this is pretty bad, my iphone is only a few days old and the battery life is horrible, a lot of people say it should get better after a few weeks of using the phone but im not sure... This is before the 5.1 update, im hearing bad and good things about this update and im kinda on the fence about whether i should do it or not... what do you guys think? Does it really improve the battery life?

With my iphone 4s it seems to be the bluetooth killing the battery in standby ???

But my iPhone 4 is fine. not sure what's going on there.

    Hai,

After i read some posts here that i realized this Is not a battery issue, it is softwere issues. So i followed step wise to save battery life. YES WELL, IT IS EFFECTIVE. But in my view, it is a waste if we cant use the 4s full revenue pontential with 'off' certain apps.

To me, 2 days is enough if the battery can last if we 'on' all the apps and use regularly 4s. BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN. I hope Apple can resolve this problem

For many people, yes.  In any case, the other changes are likely to your advantage.  I feel keeping up with the latest software and OS releases is always a good idea, unless you hear about a really serious problem with a new release.

It is probably intended to prevent you from getting incomplete images on your computer/other device.

I totally agree - and WHY should we all be turning things off to obtain a better battery life when we have invested in this phone and want to use all the features to enhance our lives!!!  We can hardly rely on this phone with such a drain on the battery!  I live in a remote area and NEED to have contact with people, especially in an emergency situation.  I don't have a mobile electricity supply to take with me to

charge this phone midway through a day out walking!!!  What a shame!  I have been looking forward to this phone for ages!  Sadly disappointed!

I was deeply disappointed with my Iphone 4 Battery life as the percentage is going down like lighting speed though I turn of 3G.Last week I bought this phone shedding my Blackberry which gave me 2 days battery life, now I really regret of choosing bad choice !!

Why can't this problem taken by Iphone executives and comeup with a solution by researching innovative ideas!

This has been an ongoing issue. I would check the warranty on this and check if a replacement is possible. /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/178/17891537-1.gif

I purchased iphone 4S (verizon) last sunday (03/11/2012). The battery life is terrible. I have turned off cellular data, bluetooth, wifi, siri, location services, notifications etc... I have not used the phone for the past three days. I wanted to see how much the battery drains. The past three days, the battery drains completely every night.

Yesterday, I reset the phone, charged it fully to 100% and turned off everything I mentioed above. Resetting has improved the battery life a bit. This morning it is at 50%.

My iphone 3gs was much better. Used to charge it once in 3 days.
