Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

IMG_0149.PNGHaven't posted in a long while since I NEVER had a Battery Issue   either of my 4S (First probuction just days before OE issue date) Had 5.0.1 installed on both and got slight better with the fixes of the memory bleed on kernel tasks not closing properly. Now have 5.1 and see no change from 5.0.1 for us. ALL STILL GOOD.

As far as whats on : EVERYTHING is on but auto time zone ( since I don't travel much, but turn on when needed), WIFI only when avail. and needed, Mail is set to manual.

Here is a little test as U can see durations Per 1% batery drain and Days standby to total batt % left. This is an average Charge. 2 days/charge under harder phone use.

App Maintainance is the KEY !! Turn those babies off when not in use.

One to Two Full charge cycles needed to Get the Lipo fully Active.

Run till black out then full charge before use.

My phone doesn't show the usage and standby times. I just see a message "Usage times will be shown after iphone is fully charged."

I have charged the phone fully many times.

I totally agree - and WHY should we all be turning things off to obtain a better battery life when we have invested in this phone and want to use all the features to enhance our lives!!!  We can hardly rely on this phone with such a drain on the battery!  I live in a remote area and NEED to have contact with people, especially in an emergency situation.  I don't have a mobile electricity supply to take with me to

charge this phone midway through a day out walking!!!  What a shame!  I have been looking forward to this phone for ages!  Sadly disappointed!

Harbor Freight sells a small photocell charger with an iPhone plug on it.  Nice for those who like to backpack, etc.

Try powering off the phone, then recharge overnight.

BTW, I found that the Kindle App ***** battery pretty much because it tries to maintain an open line to Amazon.  Convenient to be able to get books instantly, but don't forget to turn it off when not reading.

Have noticed that "sync over wi-fi" helps to drain battery bit quicker. Because its allways stays connected to wi fi network even in sleep mode. Once uncheck sync over wi fi on itunes its drops 5% overnight in compare with 9% while sync over wi fi,but in sleep mode ( not syncing, because mac was shuted down)

    Just some tips:

    - Make sure that iCloud mail is set to manual

    - Turn off bookmarks in iCloud

    - Turn off FaceTime

    - Turn off bookmarks, photo stream, reminders, contacts, and mail in iCloud

    But the best advice?

Always fully drain and then fully charge overnight before an update. That fixed my battery life. I can get 2 days standby and 10 hours of actve 3G data usage.

I really don't see how shutting off Facetime would help as it isn't used unless you ask for it.

I keep PhotoStream on, but it also doesn't seem to do anything until you enter the albums function since 5.1 update.

Do restore. Restore it as a new phone and check. It should work!

Your battery is really fine. I take it that you text a lot, because I too almost the same stats all the time if I do not use wifi and 3G. Battery's good....No worries....

Ok I got it, this is what iPhone 4S battery life is. Another question - is your phone always warm under normal usage? I can feel the warmth when it's in my pocket simply playing music or after a call. And it's unpleasant to hold when doing something like browsing the web, using mail or sending messages.

Heard the same story is with the new iPad. Is your 4S warm?

Really u guys should stop using the iphone. I had the 4s for 2 months but sold it away and bought a galaxy s2. On the 4s, After 5 hrs on standby and 1 hr of fifa 12, the battery went from 100 to 0%. But on the galaxy s2, only after 2 DAYS on stand-by, 2 hrs of 3d gaming and watching few 5 min youtube video did the battery went to 0%. SEE THE DIFF, IT IS HUGE!! and i did not even update the thing. after updating, just before selling, the battery performance ws not too pleasing either. the iphone 4s shatters into pieces after falling from a table. my galaxy s2 fell of a 2 story building (real) and only suffered few scratches and a dent at the back. SO ANDROID RULZ!

NO.  the phone should NOT be warmer than the surrounds unless you are using GPS and have it on the charger at the same time.  That will generate some heat.  A hot phone is probably a hardware problem.  Have Apple check it out.
