Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Really u guys should stop using the iphone. I had the 4s for 2 months but sold it away and bought a galaxy s2. On the 4s, After 5 hrs on standby and 1 hr of fifa 12, the battery went from 100 to 0%. But on the galaxy s2, only after 2 DAYS on stand-by, 2 hrs of 3d gaming and watching few 5 min youtube video did the battery went to 0%. SEE THE DIFF, IT IS HUGE!! and i did not even update the thing. after updating, just before selling, the battery performance ws not too pleasing either. the iphone 4s shatters into pieces after falling from a table. my galaxy s2 fell of a 2 story building (real) and only suffered few scratches and a dent at the back. SO ANDROID RULZ!

Thanks for you comments.  Now, go back to the Android forums and tell THEM how bad the Android is, because people like you just like to do things like that.

Everyone should use the phone that they like best, but there is really something wrong (not to mention very annoying), about what you are doing.

    SGS2....

Surprising you are using SGS2 in Apple forums. Apart from that, congrats for selling iPhone 4S cos you made someone else really happy and congrats for getting a 'CHEAP PLASTIC TOY LIKE FEELING' phone. No wonder if it doesnt shatter from a two storey fall....Some people hardly get that, to have a super ultra awesome out of the world build quality like iPhone, there is a compromise....But to have a 'GORILLA' glass, and an ultra plastic squeeky sounding plastic, you will have build quality compromise. I have played with a S2 and the interface is like skating on square wheels...iPhone, ice skating...... Luck with the phone....

Mine is getting warm from playing music, checking email, reading a book and sending messages. Games can be pretty taxing, but I don't remember iPhone 4 getting warm outside of games. iPhone 4S however is almost always warm when unlocked.

it's funny because even though my new replacement phone is doing great, I can't help but come visit this thread.  I love the iPhone, I think it's a great product, and it offers more features than I could even imagine from a phone.  But this is the issue - those great features needs to be turned off so that we can actually use our phones through the day.  I mean, don't you see the problem here?!

YES some features are not necessary, and I fully agree that the phone should be set up according to your own personal use, but come on now.  It is a little ridiculous to see a 790 pages thread over a battery issue that has yet to be fixed, because it will never be fixed! the battery is fine - the use is what kills it.  Do any of you use scrambe with friends? because that will DRAIN your battery as it is constantly working for you to earn new tokens.

as of today I've had my replacement phone for a week and two days, and i can go about 24-30hrs depending on my use for the day before charging it.  I use spotify, emails, text msgs, a few calls, instagram, twitter, facebook and pinterest on a daily basis.  my locations are on for Siri and the Weather. Notifications are on as well. I have email set to Fetch every 30 minutes.  I've gone through and basically tailored my phone for my own use, and it works for me.  I shoudln't have to turn everything off.  I don't use wifi, nor bluetooth.

at this point, the one thing that does bother me is how warm the phone can get - but i think that it is bound to happen, especially with a glass design.

It's common knowledge! Gorilla glass = gorilla heat.

Hello, is this normal use ?

Wifi on , Bluetooth off, Push on (but dont available in Germany), location services all on , 3G on, iCloud on , Notification-Center is also on.

-> Use my iPhone for :

    1h Facebook

    200 SMS (iMessage and WhatsApp)

30 min gaming doodle jump , only 2D-games

    10 mins phone

    Browsing images (10 mins)

Do you have any tips to improve my battery lifetime by no shut down of this features ?

Is it normal to loose 4% battery over a 6-hour night ? .

My phone doesn't show the usage and standby times. I just see a message "Usage times will be shown after iphone is fully charged."

I have charged the phone fully many times.

Try powering off the phone, then recharge overnight.

BTW, I found that the Kindle App ***** battery pretty much because it tries to maintain an open line to Amazon.  Convenient to be able to get books instantly, but don't forget to turn it off when not reading.

Powering off and recharging it overniht seems to have fixed this problem. I see the usage times now. Thanks.

The thing that I have found that causes my iPhone 4S to heat up is any app that uses GPS.  I watch full movies and TV shows on Netflix, I play lots of different games, I send email and texts, and use several different apps to edit my pictures.  And the one constant I have noticed about my phone heating up is the GPS indicator in the menu bar.  If it's on I will lose battery life fast and the phone heats up.

It is a bit better since I updated to iOS 5.1 but still not as good as I would like it to be.  I wish they would have done the same thing with the iPhone 4S that they did with the New iPad and made it a tiny bit bigger and added a bigger longer lasting battery.

My phone has only been noticeably warm once, when I was charging it, while using GPS.  As soon as I turned off GPS, it returned to ambient temp.  Normally, the phone should not be noticeably warm.  I use Wi-FI (always on), 4G (ATT style), and 3G? cellular data, iCloud, notifications, calendar, PhotoStream, the camera when I need it, and locations for those programs that need it.  No bluetooth, so far, beyond pairing it with my car unit.  Still able to make about 2 to 2.5 days between charges, if I want too.  The phone doesn't get warm, except as mentioned above.

This can't be right. I just reset my phone, charged it to 100%. I spent 55 minutes updating my contact, 5 minutes on Facebook, 5-10 minutes playing my turns in Word with Friends and Draw Something and I've lost 19% of my charge. I am connected to my wifi, having my email set to manual, bluetooth off, etc. That seems like a lot of juice lost in such a little time.

May be too early for me to evaluate the eventual perfomance of the 4s. Because i've been using it for 7 days. However, based on the discussion here make me a little bit worried, especially about the performance of battery

Almost all the complaints hereI experianced. I hope thiS issues does not last long, and hope to have the person (especially of the Apple) who maneged to overcome.

I charged my phone overnight. Wifi, notification, network, siri, location services are turned off. It was 100% this morning at 9.00 AM. I haven't used the phone all day. At 5.00 PM, the batter is at 55%. The usage says:

    Usage: 17 minutes

    Standby: 10 hrs 24 minutes.

How is this possible? What application is running? I have turned off everything that I know of. How can the usage be 17 minutes? It has been only 8 hours. The battery has drained almost 50% and the standby says 10 hours 24 minnutes.
