Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Since update to 5.1 many times I loose my network coverage in places where havent got any problem before.

Also, at home, conected to WiFi, after sometime of standBy, when I wake up the iPhone it's connected to 3G not to WiFi!!

    Why¿?¿??¿

    Just after update

I want to do a Full Reset to check about if persist it's still in Warranty...

The phone will switch off wi-fi when it is on standby after about 20 seconds, if 3G cellular data is on as this takes less power most of the time.  If you live in a poor signal area, and want to stay on wi-fi instead, turn off the 3G cellular data when around wi-fi access port.

LOLz.....I had symbian once and my phone was really sturdy, switched to iOS, phone was sturdier...:-D but since iOS 5.0.1, my phone is not that sturdy....I guess the next update 5.1.1 will be to fix the 'fragility' of the phone....

Surely SGS2 must be having a really sturdy phone cos of Android.....:-D

Funny, but seriously, if you want sturdy, go buy one of those horribly ugly cases that make the phone look like something designed for combat areas.  Ugly, but they do work.

Since 5.1 update I have this strange siri failure. Do you know what its means?

Can it have an influence for the battery lifetime?

This weekend i tested my phone with nike+gps results were spectacular.. normally my old iphone 4 had %20 to %15 percent left after 7:30 hours of walking but with ios 5.1 my S had %45 percent battery left after 8 hours constant gps usage .. i did not expect this .. i still loose battery power when the phone is on standby (sometimes i had phantom issue right after the full cycle) but it is not as bad as like ios 5.0.1. i hope apple will fix other issues(phantom usage & heating while charging) with next update..

Considering you have one bar of signal, which means the phone is working harder to maintain a connection its not bad at all I would say.

An AppleAday....iPhone 4S does not have Gorilla Glass....How long have you been a bushman. Only the first Gen iPhone had Gorilla Glass and none have had after them....

Whether it's Corning's or Lens's or whatever is not very relevant - it's glass. My point was really making a joke out of JulyMel's statement that her phone heats up because of the "glass design". I should have used /s. As far as being a bushman is concerned, well, I've read your posts here. We're always someone else's bushman lollll.

    Thx

I have had my Verizon 4S since Nov 2011.  It was on iOS 5.01. Much like most of your experiences, the battery life was poor from day one, but it was tolerable (one charge middle of the day).  However, it took a turn in the wrong direction on Mar 4, 2012.  I visited the Philippines, and for the first time, the phone roamed on GSM.  It has roamed previously on CDMA in Mexico with no issue.  The battery was only good for ~30mins. I blamed in on "GSM roaming"....no problem, right?  I returned to the US a few days later.  The battery is still good for ~30 mins....standby for ~60 minutes.  I read some comments in here, rebooted, turned off location services, time zone, Bluetooth, etc.  No change to batt life.  Then I restored the phone via iTunes, and now I have iOS 5.1.  No change.  Removed the SIM card, no change.  I visited a Verizon store (very nice experience).  They will ship a replacement phone, and they believe it’s a battery issue.  I think it’s a software bug.  I bought a Mophie external batt pack (about the size of the phone itself), and the phone is tethered to the batt permanently.  Now it seems that I am carrying 2 phones.  Wonder if I need to go back to a BB for use, and carry the iPhone for the looks :-) Anyone experienced the same?  any advice?  Thank you

Thx for the answer, but have not experienced this in 5.0.1.

I will search or create a new thread about that.

    Thx

For anyone new to the thread be sure to go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1 or 5.1:

    1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)

2 a. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)

2 b. If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)

    3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd (settings -> location services -> system services)

    4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)

    5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

Thank you.  I just reset it....back to factory settings.  I linked the phone to my work Exchange only.  No apps, no music, no yahoo/gmail, no facebook, etc.  Will post back in a day to confirm the results.  Thanks again!
