Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I used to come to this forum to complain about the battery life or look for ways to improve my battery life just like everyone else. After a month or so I decided not to waste time worrying about the battery life anymore and instead focusing on using the phone.

I now have all my phone settings at default. I have most of the Notifications on, Location Services on, Push on, Photostream on, Auto Download on....I only turned off a few settings I don't need (such as Blutooth).

After using the phone this way for a month or so, I've found myself truely enjoying all the great features and not being picky about the battery anymore. My phone's battery life is still the same as before (ok not great), but as long as the phone can get me through a full day without charging then I'm happy.

So try the samething, just enjoy using the phone's features and not worry too much about the battery, you'll find yourself a much happier person. I hope this can help you guys too.

Same here. I think myself and alot of other people got obsessive over battery life and were expecting crazy things. I just decided to use my iPhone for what it was, a great phone. I've done a lot of heavy usage and I still get over a days worth of charge.

I could at least solve part of my battery drain problem with a new Micro SIM Card. An Apple Genius told me to replace my pretty old SIM card (I cut the micro SIM card out of my old SIM card) with the latest available micro SIM card. This improved my standby time quite a bit (it almost doubled it). The overall battery consumption is still worse than with my old iPhone 3G but it's way better than before.

Hope this might help at least some of you!

I guess that is why they insisted on a new SIM card, even though I was replacing a 4 with the 4S.  Remember that the 4S has a dual core processor, twice the memory, a faster GPU, 4 times the display pixels, and a lot of other extra things to power, with a battery that isn't that much higher in capacity.

I think that is what a lot of people have decided.  I watch my battery, and still don't know why some days I end the day with 70% left, and other days 88% left, but I don't obsess over it.  If I forget to recharge on night, I still have enough left for a normal day, and chargers available wherever I go.

I hate to be the ne to tell you this, but nothing is perfect, or ever will be.  Sometimes, you pay your money, and you take your chances.

Couldn't agree more, this battery issue has/had become an obsession for many, me included. I also changed my attitude, use the phone, ENJOY it and enjoy all the great features. It's an excellent phone, who really cares how much you have to charge the **** thing. By the time your battery reaches the end of its charge life there'll probably be 2 newer models already out.

When you pay for apple production, you don't think that risk, and take it, knowing that it will ideally work, and to be arranged under this battery wishes nobody, phone should work more long and it is the truth.

The Apple it not risk, this pleasure and not absolutely would be desirable, that this pleasure disappeared.

I am reposting on this thread to keep the battery discussion in one place:

I use iOS 5.1 (9B179), and I have the same problem. I have to go through at least two full charges every day, even when I do not use my iphone much (I have a corporate blackberry Touch).

I deleted my gmail accounts (I kept my icloud and lotus accounts). Changed from push to fetch, and only manually. Turn notifications off. Turn location off. Turn wifi off. Turn roaming off. Siri off. Bluetooth off. Etc....

Same incredible fast drain -- 1% every 5 min. When plugged on a USB port, the phone's battery (in standby mode) barrely charges.

There is one interesting fact: the iPhone does not show 'Time since last full charge' in the Usage menu (under the battery usage button), even after the phone has been fully charged -- as if the battery never was actually fully charged (despite the 100% battery percentage).

    iPhone 4S Model MD241X

    Serial number: C39******TD6

    Modem Firmware: 2.0.10

I just got my new 4s on Monday and noticed by noon I had lost 50% of my battery charge. I took it to the local Verizon store and they immediately said bring in your box and charger and they will swap it out for a new one.

I am swapping for an HTC product. I don't care for the IPhone.

Unfortunately, when you have to charge your phone night and morning - as I have to -  the question of battery life becomes fundamental to your relationship with the phone.  I have to say that the iPhone's a great multifunction device when you look at the totality of its abilities, but it's not the world's best phone. In places where there should be a rock solid signal - and my old Nokia never gave a moment's trouble - the iPhone drops calls with monotonous regularity.  Great handheld computer - only a so-so phone.

Try to reset your iPhone with iTunes and set as a new phone or only reset all settings on your phone. Maybe it will help you. It helped me a lot. Now I can use my phone for 2 Days without a charge.

Yes. Its a great phone and by the time the battery loses its capacity, there will be two models. But I guess, Apple made a masterpiece with iPhone 4S. It is so ideal that I love to hold it and keep meddling with it all the time. Its been three months and 4S obsession has not faded away. I was back to normal within a week or two after the purchase of any of my phones and iPhone 3Gs but this is something extraordinary. I may buy the iPhone 5 but I will not like it if its any bigger in order to completely kill the brands making 4inchers (Samsung and others). 4S has been the best product Apple ever invented.

Yes, likely with a larger form factor that will allow room for a bigger battery, with whatever technology is used on the new iPad.  Meanwhile, the 4S is no worse than many Android 4G phones that often last only 4 hours in use before needing a charge, and usually better.
