Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

I like you're thinking..., but I have had my phone changed twice by apple. The same exact issue has occurred each time. The probability of my sim card being sat properly each and every time is highly unlikely. Your thoughts?

I don't think you will see any reduction in the price of the 4S until the 5 (or whatever Apple calls it PLEASE NOT 'The New iPhone'!) comes out.  Yes, prices nearly always drop $100 when a new phone comes out, as for free, not any time soon.

Did you get a new SIM each time?  If not, it could be the card itself, or the way it is provisioned.  Check with your service provider, and make sure they know you have an iPhone 4S.

That's def a thought, although my phone can with the sim preinstalled so I assume they realized it was configured correctly... I'm not dismissing anything though.

Same here... Well, the iPhone 4S battery life is horrible than the iPhone 4. For me, I charged my iPhone 4S up to 100% and let it sleeps overnight. I lower the brightness and turned off background programs. Then the next day it drops from 100% to 94%, come on, the iPhone 4 does better than 4S and iPhone 4's battery doesn't even drop over a night. Does it have to do with Siri or the iOS?

For anyone new to the thread be sure to go through these steps to address the battery standby drain issue after updating to iOS 5.0.1 or 5.1:

1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)

2 a. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)

2 b. If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)

3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd (settings -> location services -> system services)

4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)

5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

I have tried this on two iPhone 4S issued to me through apple along with a hundred other troubleshooting tactics that did not work...

I charged my iphone 4s all night and plugged off at 2am and checked the usage and standby statistics and they were resetted which are fine. From 2am to 8am I didn't use my phone, so the phone was in standby mode. When I woke up I checked the statistics and the usage shows 31 mins and the standby shows 6 hours. What is this 31 mins? I didn't use my phone? Is there a problem with my phone?

My usage statistics now:

Usage: 4 hours 29 mins

Standby 13 hours 27 mins

the battery is: 31%

And wi-fi, 3G are on; location services, push, fetch are off.

Is it good or not?

I use Nightstand app (alarm clock) and it uses about ~30% of the battery in 6-7 hours, even after I press the power button to sleep the iPhone.

Dunno if this would be an app issue or (more likely) OS issue or both.

I have wondered about stream usage stat also... It must be system maintenance of some sort because I've checked mine from overnight with no use and it'll show 23mins of usage but 7hrs standby... Good thing to look into though.

Can anyone tell me if this is good? Lately, I'm getting very low usage and standby time. Though I'm not quite sure what is happening but I'm suspecting some processes in the system, unclosed apps or whatsoever as the culprit to this cause.

It is hard to tell you if it is good or bad simply based on the usage and standby hours without knowing what you use your phone for and what are your settings like.

Perhaps you might want to be more spesific

For me the excessive usage and battery drain when the phone wasn't being used was down to a Skype background process. When I deleted Skype from the phone my battery usage went back to normal (pre 5.1 usage)

I think a lot of users would be very happy with only 6% drain over night.  The real question is why you don't charge the phone overnight, then you will start the day with 100% charge.  I used an iPhone 4 for about a month before I got the 4S, and I can't see much difference between them.  Sure, the 4S has two processors, and a faster GPU, and more radios, and can do a lot of things the 4 can't, but do you really expect all that to not use battery power?
