Had the same issue with my 4s out of nowhere. was getting 3-4 hours out of battery life when just on standby. However, it has been fixed and battery is working great now. 48 hours minimum between charges now.
Here's what was done to correct, and be careful before you proceed.
1. Backup anything you can to iCloud. (Contacts, messages, etc.)
2. You must reset (wipe) your phone back to original settings, which will erase everything.
3. Start over with the iPhone and go through the setup just like you have a new phone.
4. When connecting to iTunes, DO NOT restore. This is where getting your information back through iCloud is critical. If you restore, you will be right back to having the battery problems again.
5. Setup you email accounts, etc. and begin using your phone again. Battery life should improve greatly.
When you double tap the home button and the apps come up at the bottom of your screen, all of those apps are running, so if all of your apps are on there that u have on your iphone, then delete the ones there that you do not want. since all of the apps are runninng at the same time. when u delete apps from there, dont worry it doesnt delete them from your iphone.
My battery was fine but monday I went to the hospital and lasted all day there and used my phone alot and it discharged. Got home and charged it. After that the battery is not the same. Lasts about 4-5 hours and loses alot of battery on idle.
Don't know what to do. Did another full discharge and charged to 100% but nothing seems to fix this.
Just touching base a few months later since the update to 5.1 and I'm still having major issues with battery life. The battery starts dropping the moment I take it off the charger. My battery life WAS AMAZING with 5.0.1 and the moment I updated to 5.1 I can only use it a couple of hours and the next thing you now i'm down to 70% then 50% then 30%...This is so unacceptable. APPLE DO SOMETHING ALREADY! I even completly deleted everything off my phone and restored from cloud and it didn't make one bit of difference....
taylorfromnew york - I meant not using the restore feature in the iTunes setup. I believe when you connect the wiped phone the first time, you will be prompted if you want to restore from a backup. This is where you will want to say no.
Use iCloud to bring back your contacts, etc.
I did this with my phone and the battery is back to 'normal' again with no issues at all.
I've only had this phone about two months. I upgraded from 3GS.
From day one battery did not last a full day.
This is what I did yesterday. I backed up my phone to my computer.
I deleted any apps that I had not used for longer than 30 days. So I'm down to 43 apps.
I set the phone as new. Then I restored from back up.
-Wi-Fi is off, Bluetooth is off.
-I only have three notifications enabled: Phone, Messages and Calendar.
- Location services. There are only four apps that have access to location services.
- All system services under location services are off: Call network search, compass calibration, Diagnosis & usage, locatation-based ads, setting time zone and traffic.
-Brightness is down to about 25-30%
-Fetch new data under mail, contacts, calendar is off and under advanced for fetch new data all services are set to manual.
I charged the battery to 100% and unpluged it around 2300 (Thurdsay Japan). it's now 1239 Friday afternon)
And I'm still at 83% percent. I have made 8 calls so far checked email twice and checked facebook twice so far.
This is a lot better than when I got the phone right out of the box.
I hope this helps somebody.
I have tried a few of these fix's and failed.
Bottom line judging by the amount of posts and threads on 4s battery life, we should not be bothering to try any of these 'customer' fix's as if this was Honda they would have done a recall by now!
I Iam taking mine to the apple store tomorrow to demand either a new battery or new phone and suggest if we all do that (as some have already) they may see the light!!
hello guys ,
i have no wi-fi connection , so 3G is always turned on , location service , push notifs both are on for FB , twitter and 3 mailboxes .

I'm having the same problem, my battery doesn't even last 6 hours. It keeps loosing 1% every 5 minutes. Someone said that if you reset the iphone again it could solve the problems. Has anyone tried that? Did it work?
Yes, Sometimes a program get hung in a loop, and resetting will terminate it.
