Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Hi! My usage statistics show strange usage times. The standby time is okay, but the usage stats count the minutes while my iphone is in sleep mode (locked) Why??? Do you have any idea to solve this problem? thanks!

I did that when I first bought it and that helped however that isn't very good for lithium ion batteries. I would do that again except my issue is sporadic. It's not really a problem really, just odd behavior.

Maybe here is an app that is running in the background. An app that uses the location services comes to mind.

No offense taken at all. To be numero uno at something is so gratifying.

By the way I'm now up to 6 days, 3 hours and usage is 5 hours and 18 minutes with 26% left.

I think I'm going to put it in airplane mode and shut it off for a couple days to see what happens.

Oh, and regarding philanthropy, well, I gave at the office.

That is not strange at all.

Standby time is the total time since last full charge.

Usage is the time that an app has been running (such as music playing in the background or Pandora or many other apps), even if the iPhone is "asleep".

To ensure everyhting is "off" tap Home twicce to show the Recently used apps, tap and hold an icon until the jiggle then tap the red minus sign.

    Fair enough.

What runs while you don't use the phone is cellular data from notifying apps and general radio low level connectivity, mail polling, ARP stuff, internal processing and such - some of which may count towards usage. A quest for 1:1 hands on usage vs. usage stat is bound to fail, just saying. Good luck!

I just bought a NEW iphone 4S. When I bought it the battery was at 70%. I made one phone call and after 30 minutes its at 58%. I can't believe how bad the battery is on this.

12% in 30 minutes will give you over 4 hours of continuous phone calls!   What's the problem?

Performance increases after a few charge cycles.

The bigger picture is Why should we have to "limit" the 4s in order to help the battery?

Apple should recall the battery and replace it with one that can handle the functions of the 4s!!  PERIOD!

Your iPhone is a small computer.  It is not powered off when in 'sleep' mode, but only waiting for something to happen.  It still  has to maintain contact with your local cell, and check to see if any alarms are to be sounded, update your time and date, maintain connection with the internet, if needed, check the buttons to see if you are trying to wake it up, and many things that aren't obvious to you.  To avoid a problem, just plug it into the charger, and let it charge overnight, and this won't bother you any more, and you will start the day with 100% charge.

Until you have done a few charge cycles, the battery doesn't reach full capacity, and the 70% is an uncalibrated figure.  At least once, let the battery run down to below 20% and the recharge overnight.  Also, turn off any features you don't plan to use.

When did Apple forget that its all about user experience?

The point is, 4S customers shouldn't have to deal with all these technical details of their phone. It should just WORK! Like so many of other Apple product just work.

Steve Jobs never talked in terms of technical details, he talked in terms of usability and the experience of using an Apple product.

Obviously, the user experience for a 4S is way worse than earlier Iphone! Thats just a plain fact!

It was not a 30 minute long phone call. Probably just 5 minutes.
