Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Oh, I didn't even notice that there was an update! I'm going to wait... I heard that it made the battery worse for some.

rphunte42, did you have battery issues prior to this?

Hi I'm a new user of iPhone 4S and I'm very dissapointed with the battery life of the new iPhone 4S.

I have the lastest version of the OS, 5.1.1 and in my configuration I have push on and pull hourly.

I've done a test with the battery 100% charged and after 7 hours when the phone in stanby (I was sleeping) the battery dropped to 64%

With this % it makes the phone useless for me, because I only can have the iPhone 16 hours in stanby.

I would like a solution from Apple.

    Thanks you

    No troll here.

I routinely get 8 days use.

    Since recharge I'm at:

    16 minutes usage

    16 hours standy

    100% remaining.

Some of that is overnight, of course, but the suggestions

given in this forum have liberated my 4S from the issues

    everyone here is discussing.

Sorry Ace, but you are lying..........    The reality and physics of the phone and the battery make your claims impossible.   Just go away now........

he can if he uses alot of USB cable connections. to sync or DL some apps. it may extend the usage and standby tym of the phone. it is only reverted to 0 when rich 95% of the battery. but i agree w/ u. mine only get max of 4days w/8-9hrs usage. but real usage only (4-6hrs) only. other 3hrs for the backround apps. and it is only moderate usage not heavy.

This is what I have been getting since I made the changes from one of my previous post.

You have to follow ALL the steps from backing up, to setting up as new to then restoreing fom back up....

Oh and it's not how  many apps you are running at anyone time that affects battery life, it's what services those apps are accessing.

I'm running on average about 20-22 apps ALL the time.  But only very few have access to location services or auto update....

It takes more power to create microwaves to communicate back to a cell tower than to run a program on the phone.

Hope this helps some of you.

If you can advise me how to create one of

those snappy screen shots that are being

displayed here, I'll send one in. We'll both

have to wait a bit, though, because I am in

the first day of the last charge.

As for lying, I'm not. My phone might be

lying to me, but Steve wouldn't have

    created a dishonest phone, now,

    would he?

Press the Home screen & the Power button at the same time to take a screen shot on your iOS device.

Sorry guys but i need to ask question not related to Battery issue... maybe related in some how!!

I got my iphone 4S a month back, and when i started it for the first time it asked me for software update and i did updated it.

Since that time when i check in the software update i got that (your software is up to date).

Today suddenly i got that there is a software update and i click and install it.

Does that mean the apple lunched new update for 4s? because as per my information it's not lucnched yet...

Is there is way that i can see the history of the update for my iphone?

Also, is there any website i can see the list of the updates from apple with its lunch date?

    thanks

I took my 4S to a local Apple Store to get its battery issue fixed.

They hooked it up to their diagnostics, and told me that there are multiple crashes in essential OS features of the phone that are causing the issue, but the battery is normal. I told them that I have tried everything already. I restored the phone to a new state, installed IOS 5.1.1 on it, and only put in essential apps that I needed.

At that point, for some strange reason, the apple respresentative decided to offer a "battery replacement" to me. This was weird because a few minutes back they told me that the diagnostics had revealed the battery was normal. Nevertheless, I gave them my phone. About 15 minutes later the apple rep came back and said that the battery replacement went bad, and they will give me a new phone out of the box!

Not feeling too good about this, I went ahead with getting a new phone. Installed IOS 5.1.1 on it. I then decided to stick around the store for about 30 minutes to see if the same battery issue persisted. After 30 minutes and making one 5 minute phone call, my battery went down from 70% to 60%. Mind you, this is a new phone that apple just gave me and with the latest OS installed.

Then finally I got some truth from Apple. The Apple rep told me that the 4S battery life is not as good as the 4. Its processor is bigger and eats up battery even when the phone is idle. Disabling software features like location services, and time zone checker, just puts a band aid on this issue, but I can never expect to have same battery performance as a 4.

At that point they offered to give me an 8gb Iphone 4 with a $100 rebate. I am at home now, and still considering that offer.

Doing the update wirelessly seems safer than doing it on iTunes on a Windows PC.

No, I have never had battery issues.  Normally, I recharge every night, and the phone runs about 14-16 hours with light use, and ends with 70-80% battery remaining.
