Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I wrote this post on tweaking iOS 5 for battery life; at first I thought it was all about disabling locations services, and trying to decrease background services as much as possible. The final move I made that had the most significant effect for me, was to totally disable iCloud, and even deleting the account from my phone... battery life and CPU usage went back to normal (i.e. pre-iOS 5).

Btw, any push service is bound to eat up battery life, due to the simple fact that it attempts to maintain a continuous TCP connection to the server. While this may work well on a LAN, mobile networks and TCP don't play so well together; that's a little flaw that will need to be treated in the OSI model.

    Hope this helps.

Just saying I am a developer and I have ios 6 beta and my battery is fantastic compared to what it was before.. It's been unplugged for almost an hour with 15 min usage and it's still at 100%. I have wifi on, location services, and I think Bluetooth.

Howdy mate! Of course the gist of it has been said already but as you know, searching the thread is not the easiest thing to do so once in a while, a new iPhone owner pops up with a question... there is also the occasional troll lolll.

    Have a nice summer!

    Cheers

I need some advise. I am new, I have had this Iphone 4s for 2 days. I notice that the battery is really bad. I call and it consumes 1 % each 1 1/2 minute. and while I am surfing it consumes 1 % each 2 minutes. The battery consumes in idle like 2 % each 10 minutes. it is my battery good, is this the standard?

    Thanks for your help!

    Jose

    This makes no sense.

Holding Home and holding an App does nothing.

No, you replace the battery. Some Apple stores can do it I believe or some 3rd party centers either will replace it or ship you a replacement for you to replace. The 4s is a pretty simple process so I have heard. Some of the older ones may be a little more difficult. You can read more here

Assuming the battery will not charge, you can have it replaced.

This is definitely a huge problem.  I would suggest just going on a pilgrimage through the settings and turn everything all the way down or off, praying for iOs 6 to fix it and I would get a mophie juice pack plus.  iOs 6 should fix the problem.  Apple should include a battery saver option in the settings that will turn everything down or off for you.

I am extremely dissapointed. I've spent a lot of money buying the phone, and you have to turn everything off to let it live for a couple of hours. It only worked for 4 hours using skype, whatsapp and some calls.

I read almost everything here,  tested all, and the battery is lasting almost the same. I've restored it and didn't make the iOs 5 update, now testing.

You can have the most advanced phone in the world, but it is worthless if you have to plug it in twice or three times a day. I hope that, as Archererlink3 said, iOs 6 should fix the problem.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

That's what we said about iOS 5.01 and iOS 5.1.......    IMO there is only one answer here.   iPhone 5 will be larger, with a bigger screen.   The larger phone will allow for a larger battery, which is the ONLY hope for better battery life.   Until then, users of iPhone 4 & 4s models need to be ready to recharge often, if they are going to utilize most of what makes the iPhone great.   It's still the best smartphone on the market, so learn to deal with its shortcomings and enjoy it.

I have a charger in my office and in my car, so I'm almost never without the ability to keep the battery topped off.   Not ideal, but no big deal in my view..........   Certainly not the end of the world, as many portray it to be.
