Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

having same issue here. current stats on mine: charged it last night - so had one day of standby and a grand total 4h49 of usage (mostly texting, three emails, and about 20 minutes of internet useage) current battery life 4%... far from ideal! and very far from the 200hrs standby quoted on the tech specs. meh

Looking at all of the threads about this issue, I'm seeing a number of people have solved this, but all in different ways.  Others of course have not found a solution.

I set up my 64GB iPhone 4S with a backup of my 32GB iPhone 4 - standard set up, several email accounts (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo!, Mobileme, iCloud and a work Exchange account - with calendar).  I've solved my dreadful battery drain (not helped by a very unuseful Apple Care call to switch off what I'm not using) by switching off my work Exchange account.

Once I deleted the work Exchange account the battery has been performing admirably.  With average to light use today after 12 hours it's currently on 72%.  While this may not be the solution for everyone, it certainly 'solved' my problem - at least until Apple fixes the issue so I can put the Exchange account back on.

As another poster said (on this or another thread) I had noticed that an appointment notification 'due time' was flickering madly.  Therefore in this particular instance I think there's some sort of conflict going on between iOS5 and Exchange (2003 - I think).  I also don't think the conflict is only when iOS5 communicates with Exchange, the problem continues even in airplane mode.

Not a great solution to the problem - actually it's more of a work-around - but you may be able to get some pointers until Apple gets round to solving the problem.

Similarly, I can watch the battery meter drop % by %. Thought I would not have to recharge daily, even with minimal use. I am at 95% within 15 minutes of removing the charger and in mostly standby.

Like many others that are posting I had the same issues.  I tried a restore and then set up the phone as new with no luck.  Tried many other solutions such as turning off location services, etc all with no success.  Almost took the phone back but I saw several posters mention to use "Reset all settings" to fix the issue.  I tried it and my phone battery no longer drains like crazy on standby.  Thanks for the tip!  It's worth a try for anyone that is having this issue.  Just remember that it's Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings.   Stay away from "Erase All Content and Settings" for the purpose of this fix!  Just use "Reset All Settings".

Battery life has been good and I'm slowly turning a few things back on (like mail fetching every 15 minutes) so that I can catch any battery drain issues if I cause them again.

Best of luck to everyone.  Definitely a frustrating issue!

Just to add my 2 cents, I'm not having drastic issues with the 4S battery but it definitely is not lasting nearly as long as iPhone 4 running iOS 4 with the same usage and conditions.

With my iPhone 4 running iOS 4, I rarely saw the battery get down to 20% after 14-16 hours of use.  With the same usage pattern and location, the iPhone 4S with iOS 5 is frequently getting down to 10% or less after 14-16 hours off the charger.  I am not a heavy user, so most of that is just standby time.

My iPhone 4S has much worse battery life than my iPhone 4, or my 3GS.  When I leave the office around 5 or 6pm, I usually find that my battery is below 10%.  This never happened with my previous iPhones.  I wonder if it's due to the location services that all of the apps are pulling from now.  iMessage, Viber, etc.  Hopefully Apple will find a fix soon and include it with an update soon.

I want to put my experience in. I have used my new iPhone 4S (ATT, Black, 32 GB) for about a week and a half.  Upgraded from a 3Gs (32 GB).  My issue is just using it over wifi.  Its not extreme, but in 20 minutes of usage on wifi, it drops to 90% from off the charger. My 3Gs seemed to preform better than this, even after 2 year of owning it.

I am having the same issue.  I have the phone in standby and it drains at first not so bad, but once I get to 50% it drains about 15% per hour.  I am dead before I leave for work.  At work it is not used much, my email gets pushed to me and maybe 2-5 text messages.  My 3GS lasted all day with room to spare most days.

I've owned the iPhone 1, 3G, 3GS, 4 and now the 4S.  I would say that the 4S has had the worst battery life of them all.  I don't understand.  I have my screen on dim and nearly nothing running.  what's going on here!!!

Turn of Siri, you'll find it helps dramatically.

I think part of the issue is the dual processors; hence faster battery drain than previous models.  Not a help; just a comment!

I just want to share my experience here.

    I bought two 4s iphones a black32gb and a white16gb.

the 16gb is doing well it is running a single yahoo account, and icloud account + facebook.

the 32gb has multiple email accounts with exchange, imap, pop3, and calendars. The battery on this device is not doing well. It is even worse than my iPhone 3gs 32GB. I am still investigating the issue. I haven't contacted apple support yet.

Nope, I've had Siri off the whole time and my battery drains dramatically as noted in my previous post. So it's not Siri, it's a serious bug in iPhone 4S with iOS 5, iCloud or both.

When is Apple going to fix this battery issue?  Any suggestions right now on a quick fix, besides disabling all locations services.

I am experiencing terrible battery life as well.  I previously had a 32GB 3GS and could go two full days on an almost 3 year old phone; with my now 64GB 4S I now have to charge my phone twice per day to make sure it doesn't go dead.

What's funny is I'm not a video watcher nor do I spend much time actually on the phone talking.   I would love to see 100 hours let alone the 200 hours.

I've turned off almost all location services stuff and it didn't help at all,

    Dan
