Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Can i also say i am having terrible battery life from my iphone 4s i have tried some of the suggestions on the thread with only minor improvements. But i have just noticed in the section for time since last charge , Usage shows 20 hours 50 min and standby shows the same amount of time .( is this normal ? )

call time states 2 hours 53 min Lifetime 2 Days 20 hours with only 31% battery life left.

My network operator O2 uk are sending me a new 4s as a replacement but i am unsure weather this would solve the problem after reading through this thread.

I have a thread with similar woes.

The unusual thing for me is that my battery drains SIGNIFICANTLY overnight.  When I get home and am sleeping my usage seems to skyrocket, and I lose 20-40% just with it in standby.  But if I'm at work for the same 6-8 hours actually using it, I only lose about 10% battery.

My initial thought is that the difference at home is that I have wifi connected, but then again, I don't seem to have the problem during the day at home.

All the usual things have been turned off.  I don't feel this is iOS 5 related, since I was running that on my iPhone 4 since its developer release and have had NO battery issues.

So I think it's something with the 4S itself, and not the software.

I have a 16gb white iPhone 4S.  I am experiencing much of the same issues with my battery draining at an alarmingly fast pace.  The weirdest thing to me is that the battery actually drains some when it has been plugged in and fully charged.  On more than one occasion I have seen the phone showing it is fully charged while plugged in to it's charger, and a few hours later when I check again, it shows 96% or 92% even though I have not been using it.

I played an online video game for about 30 minutes while riding in the car.  The phone showed 100% when we left the house.  When I got home 4 hours later, it was down to 35%.  I used Siri and a few other apps for around 30 minutes as well.  1 hour of use and I am down 65%?!?!  I wasn't editing video or anything that power intensive.

for the moment , guys turn your iphone4S into a flip phone or a flop phone

by turning ALL OFF i mean ALL OFF , plus 2 G mode if you have to go web putt it ON. depends on your

    actual needs AT THE MOMENT.

call apple usa and apple canada (apple canada just began to know about the battery issue 14 days later!!!!!!!!!!!)

they dont know if it is harware or software......one thing :the began to freak out......hesitation in their voice,

tired off all the phone calls.

so all: wait and see.........since i got my phone on the 14th i spent 10 hours of all settings and IT IS  NOT OUR

PROBLEM BUT THEIR PROBLEM.all that lost energy.

one thing is sure :more you heat the battery more you will use it badly ans shortening the life of that battery ,

    it will just get worst.

)(*&?%$#@! 1450 mah , why they dont put a 1900 like some smart phones in the beginning. 10-14-20 dollars

    more .........bot bifg difference

I switched from an HTC Evo 3D to a 64gb Black iPhone 4s. I'm definitely shocked at how quickly the battery life is dropping. I pulled it off the charger this morning at 7:00am. After light use and some texting/emails. Two push exchange accounts. I'm at 38%

I just read a thread talking about a possible bug with location based services. Specifically the time service. I'm going to turn that off, charge phone and report back.

Hopefully the Apple engineers have some idea of what is causing the issue. I definitely don't want to feel like I can't use my phone because I'm afraid of running out of battery during the work day.

i agree. My wife and I both have the 4S and are having battery issues. I thought it was just me. Glad to know apple is watching these threads and is aware of the problem. I don't really use my phone to it's 'full' potetial and have been shocked at then short battery life.

Would the new phone count against Apple Care two phone replacement?

The same thing is happening with my new iPhone 4s as well. I preordered one within the first few hours of when they were available. Ever since I got it, I've noticed that the battery just is not holding up. I have to charge it a few times a day actually. Now I am fully familiar with turning off all radios to help battery life, including wifi, location, notifications, push email (set it to manual fetch), bluetooth and even cellular data. I wish I could turn off 3G and go to edge because that seems to make a bigger difference. But with all that combined, it makes very little difference. I dont even game that much and I consistently close the open apps running in the background. For a newer phone, I would figure that this would last much longer than the 3Gs. So basically, I'm running it as a iPod Touch but thats not what I bought. I even have all apple chargers and cables. I've had to charge it every night thus far. Maybe this is normal and I need to change my expectations. Maybe its not normal...dont' know...

My 4s battery drains crazy fast as well. The phone also seems to get warm on the side that the processor is on (and I don't use very processor intensive apps). I just upgraded from an old Blackberry so benchmarking battery life against my old phone wouldn't be fair, still, my 3 year old Blackberry had better battery performance. I hope this is not a hardware issue and can be fixed with a software update sometime in the future.

I don't have anything crazy going on like losing 20% battery life per hour... but I definitely don't make it through a day with fairly normal-seeming settings. Someone mentioned losing about 10% of their battery life overnight... I've had my 4S for two weeks (bought in-store on the 15th), and have never left it unplugged overnight, because it's usually at about 10-15% by bedtime.

My girlfriend got her 4S at the same time at the same store, and hers is a bit worse than mine. These are our first iPhones, so we don't have anything to compare them to... I sort of assumed this was normal...

Yeah I agree that the back seems to get warm intermittently.  This could mean that some process is maxing out the processor.

That would explain unusual battery life.

So Seeing as this is mentioned OVer and over and over this is how i got My battery usage down

Well that's the thing After Going through "MANY" online sites on IOS battery On my 4s there are some very

basic stuff to do to get 2x the battery life.

    1. Turn off WIFI when not needed (every one says this! but it's not necessary to leave on, use your data

    you're already paying for it).

    2. In Location Services > System services > Turn off Location based I-ads, and Time Zone (sorry apple)

    3. MOST important, If you use an Exchange account delete it "reboot" and re add it (You NEEED to reboot)

    4. Remove POP accounts or tweak the Fetch interval.

My 2cents, I can now go a day and a half with my device under regular usage and still have it at more than 20% on 4s with IOS 5.

Apple will have to tweak their network usage in afuture updates but for now loving the battery life. Some have done these steps after a restore, that too works but i did not do that.

I think you're onto something here with the flickering on the Notification Center of calendar entries.  I'm using a utility to monitor system performance. It was using like 85% of CPU just sitting there. I went into the Notification Center and cleared all the flickering items.  Immediately CPU usage dropped significantly.

Well, I can finally reply.  I've been getting "we'll be back..." messages all day when trying to log in here.

I've been, and will be, monitoring this situation regularly over the next bunch of days.  As I said in my first ever post (8 pages ago give or take), I'm a current Android user.  After my so-so experience with my particular Android device and the horrible support that Samsung/Verizon provided the Samsung Fascinate, I'm on the edge, ready to jump ship.

I've done a lot of research on the iPhone now and I feel it will fit my needs perfectly fine minus this battery issue.

I'm really rooting for you apple.  I'm glad to have read this  article:http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/oct/28/iphone-4s-battery-apple-enginee rs?newsfeed=true

...as it gives me some hope that Apple is listening and does intend to correct the issue.  We had no such reassurance when we were sitting on our Android 2.1 Fascinates anxiously awaiting 2.2 and a ton of bug fixes.  When it finally came we found that it cut our battery life nearly in half.  Anyone coming from a Samsung fascinate who owned it from the 2.1 to 2.2 transition can't help but draw some parallels here -- except for the glimmer of hope that devs are relentlessly working on the issue.

So c'mon Apple!!! You've got at least one Android-using convert patiently waiting.  I'd like to make your slice of the market-share pie a tad larger.  Fix this issue!  The clock is ticking.  I have a coupon for $25 off a new phone at Verizon that expires mid november.  I'd really like to use it on an iPhone 4S
