Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I just go the 4s and am a first time iPhone user and have to admit the battery life is pretty lame...it was fully charged when I lfet home this morning at 830a and not quite 8 hours later and minimal use it is down to 61%. The extent of my use has been text messaging...that is it. I already miss my LG simple flip phone.

My 2.5G iPhone finally gave up the ghost. It was pretty marginal the last few months. Still, it's talk-time and standby-time are hours longer than my iPhone 4s. What's up with that?

Try this as it solved my battery drainage issue. The main culprit is icloud syncing.

    1. Location services - turn off - setting time zone

    2. Turn ping off  in restrictions

    3. Cloud services - turn off contacts syncing. Apparently data transfer for contacts is very high and hence it effects battery life badly. Apprently there two to four database tables where the data transmits are high.

( i have all turned off except for photo stream and find my iphone on).

Now my battery life is much better.

I guess I must have a special version of the 4S as my battery life is at least 50% longer than my 4 was.  I get about 60 hours before the battery goes below 20% then I turn on my Mophie Juice Pack Plus, which takes it back up to 100% in about an hour, and then keeps it there for about another 2 hours.  Then I get another 40-50 hours before its back down to 20% and I start looking to charge it.  I have wifi, gps, siri all turned on.  I use it mainly to recieve emails, which amounts to several hundred per day.  As for phone calls, it rings for every call that my office desk phone gets, which is on average a couple of dozen per day, and I make probably half a dozen calls on it each day.

APPLE ENGINEERS: Contact me - I'm happy to help.

I have similar battery issues with everyone else here and would be happy to let you monitor the device.

I'm in the dev program and am a software engineer so I can hopefully make it easy for you.

FYI, i've noticed automatic timezone checking accessing location services and staying on for long periods of time ( > 10 minutes ) - turning it off helped somewhat.

I get the worst drain in the morning after the phone has been idle all night.  I'll usually drop about 20 - 30% in one hour of wifi internet usage + maybe 15 minutes of voice.  It tends to settle down after that.

    Again, HAPPY TO HELP.

I am also having the issue with Battery life. I got my white 32gb on release day, Verizon. It looses about 10% every 1.3 hours. I have been charging my phone 3 times a day. It's AWFUL. I really hope someone does something soon or I need to switch back to my iphone 4

I have had my 4S 2 days and notice that I lose about 10% per hour under lite use. My phone doesn't even make an 8 HR work day Under light use. I had a 3GS before and could go an entire day and not have to plug it in until late morning the next day under the same use as my 4S. What Gives?!? I have spent hours searching and shutting of settings and changing thing on my phone nothing seems to help. What goes are all the bells ans whistles if you have to turn them off! Among other reasons I wanted this phone was the longer battery life. I love the phone but if the battery can't even last an 8 HR day, come on!

This my first iphone (4s) and the battery life is extremely bad. I rarely talk on the phone and I have to charge it every day. I do not use applications that drain the battery like Skype, Viber, etc. I mostly use it to check email. If I talk on the phone for 20 minutes then I have to recharge it.

What's really sad is people telling us all these things to turn off and save battery life and it gets me thinking the the heck is the point of having these features with a phone if it's gonna drain the battery in a few hours.. It's just senseless that they don't put more effort in the main thing.. The battery!

my battery life is pretty bad.  I lost 9% overnight! Is there any way to save battery? my iPhone is my primary phone, I have to leave it on all night.

I have to turn Siri off all the time and some notification off.

in the daytime, I have to carry the cable around... it's not convenient, but I don't feel comfortable seeing 20% of battery left after lunch.

    please advise.

I am having the same 4s problem also with Verizon.  I took mine to the Verizon store - they looked it over for about 30 minutes - observed i had low battery warnings more than once per day - have a grand total of 3 apps installed (one a battery monitoring app)  - virtually everything that might suck up battery disabled.  They announced that i would get a new replacement (that only happens if you return in under 14 days) but they needed a credit card to purchase a new one.  But....  systems were so slow they could not process the request - i would receive a call on my phone - for the purchase.  after two days with no call - called verizon tech support - luckily in nick of time - they took the order and i have a confirmation.

There were few questions asked from the support tech so i assume this is a known issue but they seem overwhelmed.

I am lucky if phone stays alive for more than 3 hours without recharging.  i use it very little - trying to save the battery for phone calls - not what i had in mind after switching from a droid which never had this issue and had replaceable batteries to boot.

Skimming through the list, seems like I'm somewhere in the middle.  My 64GB iPhone 4S is clearly getting worse battery life than the iPhone 4 I handed down to my daughter (and the identical one that my wife uses).  But it's not nearly as bad as what some folks are posting here.  All devices in question are using iOS5.  I haven't compared it scientifically, but it feels like my 4S is draining about twice as fast as my 4 did.  For instance, on my commute into the office I use it to keep track of traffic.  The iPhone 4 would go from 100 to ~97, my iPhone 4S usually finishes the trip at about 94% remaining.  Hope that Apple figures this out quickly and gets me back some of my old battery life!

    Hi Apple Engineers

I am with Rogers in Canada using a 16GB 4s, my battery is losing about 8% steady per hour doing nothing at all.  It gets far worse if i'm actually using it.  I have tried everything mentioned, restored, setup as new, disabled everything, nothing works

I would be more than happy to help. Contact me.

This is weird that so many people are having such short battery life.  I wonder what you all are doing different that runs it down so fast.  Even if I make lots of calls, I still get almost 2 days before it gets to 20%.  Its way better than my 4 and that was way better than the 3 I had before that.  The only thing I have turned off is Bluetooth since I am not using anything that needs it.  With the Mophie Juice Pack, I am only charging the thing once every 3-4 days.

OK.  I've turned the auto-syncing to iClound and everything else off so that it's not running constitently, but it's nowhere near the battery capacity of my 3GS.  I would say with notifications and pushes off, it's still running at less than half the battery life of my 3GS.  IMy old phone can go for days of use without a hitch, now...not so much....WAAHHH!  I read with my phone and this is NOT GOOD!!!!
