Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Apparently Apple is now contacting us affected users directly about the issue. Did anyone here get any emails or calls from apple asking you to install diagnostic utilities on your phone in order to determine the issue? Hopefully it's software, because I can't imagine the bad press that would result from a massive recall of all early 4S units, if they do in fact have defective batteries.

Personally my 64GB 4S is doing okay, not as spectacular as I had hoped. But then again that's probably a result of me turning off wifi, almost all location services since it doesn't even matter in Canada, and I barely use data as i have a limit of 500mb a month. So far leaving the phone in my pocket for a day, the battery drains about 2 percent an hour on standby (that's 50hours standby, significantly less than 200), and after about an hour of texting, the battery would be down to 70% (from 90%). The other day while simply listening to audio, it would drain about 10% every hour, which would effectively equate to only 10hrs of audio, not the advertised 40. Keep in mind that many of the phone's services are disabled, and that Siri is rarely used as it has to constantly connect to 3G in order to work.

I might call apple today to see if they can pull any diagnostics off of my phone, if everything seems normal then I may have to go to the apple store in order to check for a defective battery.

My iPhone4s is decreasing at 10% per hour.  I am charging it 3 time per day and it is still running out by 8.00pm.

I can charge all night and then by 11am my battery can be onkly 48% with very little usage.

I am also noticing that my phone is very hot a lot of the time, especially around the SIM area.  Could this have anything to do with it?

Apple please do what you can to sort this as this is not a good experience and I am an officall fanboy!

THis is ridiculous, im thinking of switching back to my 3gs.  I work in IT and have had many projects involving testing these devices however i think i will try to wipe it and set it up as a new device.  Im tired of charging this every day.  During the day i have to turn off mobile data in order to try to get my phone to last for the day.  I only have two notifications messages and phone. I disabled nearly all location services, i dont use the cloud for backups.  SERIOUSLY my 3GS had better battery life mega

I have also noticed a substantial difference in battery life from my iPhone 4.  My iPhone 4S seems to drop by a similar rate of 10% an hour, even with wifi and iCloud features disabled.  I have performed a restore, and it has not helped.

    How about my battery life?

I charged it last night before I went to sleep at 11:30 pm and I got up at 10:30 am (no school today so I slept late).  It was at 97% when I got up.  I've used it all day (music, Facebook, Siri etc.. No wifi)

    Usage- 4 hours, 10 minutes

    Standby- 17 hours, 15 minutes

    I'm at 65%

    Thoughts?

10% an hour for me as well.

Good thing about this battery stuff is it charges back quickly if I have it in sleep mode, about 1 to 1.2 hour for full charge.

Not only is my phone dying in a few hrs but apps like Gallery

Load and instantly quit! I am walking around w a charger and

constantly recharge at places I am stopping at and making a

nuisance of myself asking everybody for an empty outlet :(. This is really sad

for Apple to have shipped these things without having done a

little more homework again. My 3GS lasted longer than this and it was

    years old!

Add my name to the list. My old iPhone 4 had great battery life but the new 4S is horrendous. I understand that having location services and the like will drain the battery faster - but I shouldn't have to shut those off for my phone to last 1 full day (...with reasonable use). What's the point of having a phone with these features if you have to keep turning them off and on just to preserve battery life??

Please fix this, Apple. The 4S is a great phone but I wish I didn't have to worry so much about the battery and/or have to carry around a charger and cable...

Wow! I just made a 7 min phone call on my 4S, to the apple store no less! My Battery dropped 3% and my phone heated up very warm to the touch. My 3GS never got any where close to this warm even after heavy gaming. Wow..what is going on!.

I lose 10% over night everynight.  Apparently Siri invites her friends over for a party after we go to sleep!

I was expecting the 4S' battery life to be a significant improvement over my 2 year old 3GS, but I've noticed that in some instances the battery drains just as fast, if not even faster that the 3GS with the old battery that had seen some heavy usage. Despite everything else about the phone being significantly better, the battery absoltuely does not have that new phone feel, and I can only imagine how bad it will be in 2 years. As a note, I tend to keep notifications down to a minimum (just a few apps like email, facebook, txt, etc), though I do have my contacts syncing with my Google Account. I've read elsewhere that could tend to cause problems..
