Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Just wanted to add to this. I am easily dropping ten percent an hour and that is with virtually no talking and little interaction. I have wi if turned off as well and close background programmes. Not good really.

Well I guess it's not just me lol. I have been an iPhone user since the original and love them but I also am having horrible battery life and am hugely disappointed. I have read multiple forums and tried every trick suggested to improve the battery life with no success. At this point I can only hope this is a software problem that will be addresses and fixed via a patch.

Both myself and my wife iPhone 4S have the same battery issue: drained in less than 8 hours of doing NOTHING.

Our previous iPhone 4 with the SAME settings lasted all day.

If I look at About - Diagnostic and Usage Data, I get a whole list of dataaccessd-XXX and LowMemory-XXXX and Messages-XXX. The dataaccessd are logs of "exceptions" generated by Power Assertion Timeout of com.apple.dataAccess:DADaemonPowerAssertionManager". The kernel backtrace is HUGE

    Hi,

I bought my 4S on launch day and it burned 10-15% an hour. In standby mode. I got an empty battey with almost no use just after 6 hours. Empty.

As I also had a faulty volume button, I got a replacement 4S in the Store, and restored it from iCloud backup. The replacement phone worked just fine (battery life is back to almost normal, comparing to a 4). What really helped me too was turning push of iCloud off.

If somebody from Apple wants to get ahold of my old 4S, I still have the IMEI number of the old phone. It is lying down there somewehere in the AppleStore. (It's in Germany)

Woke up and unplugged iPhone4S from charger at 9:00AM and now after 9 hours of VERY minimal usage w/ ~25% screen brightness I have 19% left in battery life. RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting very bad battery life and phantom usage too. Diagnostics seem to suggest there is an "AWDD" process going wrong and this can happen every few minutes, killing the battery.

My iPhone 4S 64 is also generating hundreds of these AWDD errors in diagnostics and I'm getting absolutely terrible battery life. I seem to have phantom usage as in when the phone is sitting idle (locked) the phone still reports its still in use.

In the office I can leave the iPhone on standby for 6 hours, not touch the phone and still have 5 hours "usage".

This is absolutely ridiculous as I feel I can't leave the safety of a power plug anymore!

The AWDD error also happens on my iPad 2 3G 64 but less frequently. It's still a noticeable drop in battery life but not at poor & unacceptable as the iPhone 4S.

    Help us Apple!!!

The only thing that I have done was reset all the settings.  I don't really have a before and after for how it was before the reset because I got my iPhone yesterday and I had been researching the battery life issue before I received  it. I have also never noticed my phone being warm.  It always has seemed cool.  I was just trying to get an idea on what people thought about my battery life.  I'm not really sure about what is good battery life and what is bad battery life.

I've had the iPhone 4 since verizon launch in feb. Battery life has actually never been an issue, I was so impressed compared to androids. Recently paid for the new 4S and its about 25% half way through the day. My iPhone 4 used to be over 50% by the time I went to bed and charged the device.. I use my 4S more and the battery is just AWFUL.

    Hopefully something is fixed soon..

Add my wife and I to the list of poor battery life. First iPhone for both of us and we're surprised how often we have to recharge it. Sometimes more than once per day and we're not particularly heavy users.

I'm finding that open apps like map & compass keep draining cause the don't shut down the location services. I've got 22% and have hardly used the phone at all.

IF SOMEONE FROM APPLE WANTS AN AFFECTED PHONE, you can call Germany's Augsburg Apple Store and ask for it. I got mine replaced. the one in store lost 10-15% per hour, and I think it should be in store or elswhere INSIDE Apple. I have the Serial Number and UUID respectively at hand. Also serial if you want.

    Everyone, relax.

Yes, there is a problem (I have it too) and it will be fixed. Not the ideal product launch, but my previous experience with Apple assures me that 1) they are very well aware of the problem, 2) fixing it is a high priority, 3) you will be satstified, one way or the other.

Right now, their engineers have better things to do than respond to everyone's individual experience.

Battery drain in our household as well.  We both use the new 4s, and still have a iphone 4 running.  The older phone does not leak battery power nearly as bad.  So does NOT seem to be software driven.  iOS5 does not drain the older phone, so it appears to be hardware driven.  iOS5 on our ipads (same church, different piew I know) also does not drain with the new platform.

In a non-scientific review, it appears that programs such as foursquare kick the phones into drain mode.

I have also noticed the drain when opening files, such as excel or word (small ones too)

Just our two cents on the problem.  we went from recharge at night to recharge 3x a day.  :-(

Just to add to my post, I've already restored my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to factory default and set up as new devices and it doesn't work to solve the problem. I even tried resetting network settings after that and the battery still drains like there's no tomorrow.

This is all about 3g for me.. I've improved a bit since doing a clean restore and disabling a couple of bits i don't need..

But for me -- I can go to bed at 100% and wake up 8 hours later at 98%,  most things enabled.. But I'm connected to wi-fi.

I then take the train for 45 minutes to work, a little facebook and read through the posts on this forum and I've lost 30-40% by the time i reach work..

My commute takes my through good signal - zero signal and everything inbetween and after about 15 minutes on the train the phone is very hot!!

I've ran that process monitor app but nothing is obvious, the CPU is not really high while the phone is hot so I just dunno ..

For me it's all about 3g though, on wi-fi my battery is great.
