Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    iPhone 4S white 16 gig

I have turned EVERYTHING off except 3G(Verizon)....

Notification center is basically OFF. No notifications.

I even deleted my email account off the device.

    Standby is decent.

But the very second I surf 3G Internet, use app, camera, the battery percent goes down crazy fast!!

    Also!!!!!!!

Has anyone downloaded a system monitor app??

Oddly...when I have maybe 6 apps open, I only have 40 or so megs ram avail! and has bad performance issues!

My iPhone 4 could juggle 8 to 12 apps and still have 100 megs ram available! No issues!

I turned everything off. I ran an experiment. I have the sling media app, so I left my iPhone 4S on until it died. It lasted 4 1/2 hiurs and died. I don't normally do this but had to find something controllable. This is under the spec touted by Apple. This is no big thing to me but just basic usage and quick battery drain is a problem My recently traded in 3G ran much longer under more adverse conditios. It was rock solid. The new battery life was an attractive addition

Among others. Oh well, just keep charging our iPhones.

Hi ! I have the same problem with my new iPhone 4S....I've only upgraded last 26th October 2011 (Sheffield, England) but  I've noticed that my battery doesn't last a day. When it's on standby overnight with fully charged battery, when I wake up in the morning my full charged battery is on the 80% ish already eventhough I've switched off  all the apps running, logged off YM, Facebook & the like but still my battery standby time was very poor indeed.. At first I've ignored it but for the last 3 consecutive days now, it has gotten worst and by lunch time today my phone just went DEAD COMPLETELY!!!!! BATTERY DRAINED !!!!! Hence in the end I've to go to Apple store to complain about it and they were oblivious of the said problem and they just gave me a NEW iPhone 4S. I've never had any problems with my old iPhone 3GS & also my wife's iPhone 4. So we shall see then if it's got the same problem....oh dear first the antennagate then perhaps the batterygate????

from my continued testing, notifications, email, yadda yadda wont fix the battery problem.

you have to figure out what is eating your CPU on your phone.

I downloaded an activity monitor called "system activity monitor".

I then turned everything on the phone on and off one at a time.

I found my problem, even with icloud turned off and not using it, the setting

called documents and data needed to be turned off.

CPU went from 70 to 80% (no wonder my battery was only lasting 4 hours).

    now its 1% CPU.

gone all day with everything turned on except that one setting, talked for awhile and my

battery is still just about full.  this is a brand new iphone4s too.

your problem may or may not be the same but your shooting in the dark without an activity monitor

to test each change.  id suggest trying my setting change first and then others if that doesnt work.

Just adding my name to the list.  My fully charged iPhone 4S, with all Push notifications and Location services turned off, Brightness turned down, etc. etc. - fully drains in about 9 hours WITH NO USAGE BY ME AT ALL.  So it's basically useless unless I choose to keep it plugged in all the time.

Need to know:  If Apple has established a site for users to log in so that these issues will be addressed, or users will at least be notified of battery issues and developments.

Need to know:  If other owners have successfully resolved their battery issue, and if so, HOW?

    Much thanks to all replies.

My iPhone 4S is probably about twice as power hungry as my iPhone 4 was.  I've shut off push email and any unnecessary app notifications.  But no luck.  If anyone at Apple would like me to install any diagnostics apps, etc, on my new 4S to help identify and resolve the issue, I'll provide all the help I can.  I'm a software test automation engineer so I could provide valuable assistance in troubleshooting/debugging.

Apple, just say the word and I'll help out.

    Thanks,

    Powers.

so by everything off are your sure?

I thought I had everything off too, but with wifi, bluetooth, icloud supposely off my phone was still hitting 70 and 80% cpu non-stop.

Try doing what I did, go to settings, icloud, documents and data and turn that off.  and turn off the other pieces of icloud as well.  apparently the global setting of dont use icloud doesnt do what you think.

mine icloud was off, but until that one specific setting was additionally turned off my problem persisted until then.

I kept checking the activity monitor and sure enough that one setting dropped it to 1% cpu and the battery held steady.

dont assume anything is off just because it says off lol, dig deeper I was surprised too that the documents and data made the difference since if icloud was actually off it should have had no impact.  but it did.

maybe i am tired dont see documents and data...........

Guys try this, it solved my problem. Go to settings>location services>system services>setting time zone OFF. because from what i can see, this location service is ON all the time on my iP4S, drains like 7% battery every minute on stand by. If it works for you, let me know.

Unforuntately I am having the same issue from Australia, I re-contracted my phone with my provider and got it straight out of the box - the battery was at 100% and within say half an hour it was already down to around 70% battery life.

It seems to charge like normal, does so rather quickly, though even when I have minimal applications open, even games, etc it doesn't make a huge difference.

I noticed the iPhone 3GS had the same issues when I had that on a contract with my provider as well, I'd take it to work and it would run out of battery by the end of the day even when I had only used it a few times throughout the day to make a few calls - in the end I had to take my charger to work to keep it going.

iPhone 4S, what can I say, it works, still has the odd bug in it, was really expecting something more than what I had gotten. I mean come on, it does not even allow me to ask for maps or restaurants in Australia (that was the low point).

Otherwise, I'd recommend Apple at least make some improvements because honestly the way I am seeing this they sell things at an expensive rate but use cheaper quality hardware especially in terms of the battery, if they didn't learn from 3GS, will they ever...?

Having same problems it appears as everyone else. 64GB 4S. Exactly same settings as previous iPhone 4 running iOS 5. The 4S just drains the battery so fast- it doesn't even make it till I get home in the evening. Disappointing

My battery on the iPhone 4S is bad.  It is worse than on my 2 year old iPhone 3GS.  When the new phone is idle at home it loses 10% an hour.  And this is with a strong 3G and WiFi signals.  Even with the light use the battery is dead by the end of the day.   On my old 3GS the battery would last me all day.  I expected on the new 4S yhe battery to last noticably longer, but it is not the case.  Something is wrong and it is not supposed to be like this.  Apple claimed that the iPhone 4 had an improvement of 40% over iPhone 3GS and 10% over iPhone 4.  I see a reduction.  I complained to the Apple store but they did not know about it.

yeah mine was rubbish too. dead from 100 to 0 in 8 hours on standy.

changed to a new 4s, swtiched off most notifications, gps etcetc as recommended on the forum and now it is lasting me a lot longer (16 hours standy, 4 hours use yesterday).. still no where near as advertised though so will give it a week and get a refund most likely.

You just have be careful with the battery and don't have many things open and then you will have a good battery

Add me to this list. I have been following other threads complaining about battery life.

I have been trying all the suggestions to no real avail (notificatons on/off, deleting apps, restore). The real problem is that its not consistent. Sometimes battery seems good, other times it drains like crazy on standby!

I took it to the apple store and the genuis said the battery tested perfect. But then i walked out of the store and watched the battery depleat in front of my eyes. Like a % a minute.

My iphone 4 seems fine it was 100% this morning and now still has 88%. To contrast my 4s was fully charged in the a.m. Recharged in the afternoon and at 8:00 pm its at 74% with almost zero usage (maybe 5 texts). And i would consider that an improvement! My ipad 1 also holds a good charge - even if performance feels slower.

In real usage sometimes the phone is hot and in real use the battery drops in front of my eyes.

I am considered a very knowledgable Mac tech person and do support for clients, friend and family. So I am pretty well versed in the workings of iOS and Mac OS.

Hope Apple will sfind a solution - i know they will, just hope oon before this gets out of hand!
