Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

When apple swaps out a phone, they do NOT give you one that is in a newly sealed box. Instead, it comes out of a black box as a replacement. They use the black box to issue replacement phones.

I have also had terrible luck with my 4S...  I've done a few of the suggested tweaks, per usual, Ie. lower brightness, turn off Bluetooth, location services, blah blah. Didn't really help. I did dig into location services and I turned off everything but cell tower triangulation. That really seemed to help things out.

I started out with a restored backup, so since then I've done TWO clean restores and Apple has replaced my first 4S due to what we assumed was a bad 3G and/or SIM card. I have also done a clean install with my new iPhone 4S, my battery life is much better now, on par with maybe my 3G/3GS but no where near my 4.

    Anyone else having any luck?

Are they still brand new phones or refurbs?

Technically, the iPhone 4S' that are coming out of the black box are brand new since there has been no refurbished ones yet, according the apple employees I spoke with.

But to me, if they are brand new, why not keep them in a sealed box...

    Bingo... my thought exactly.

Is it a sealed black box or whatever or just a loose one.

I've just been really lucky.  I received my phone yesterday and I haven't had any problems.  As soon as I got it, I set it up and such and it had about 55% battery.  I "Reset All Settings" and let the battery run all of the way down until it died.  I charged it up and removed it from the charger at 11:30 pm and went to sleep.  i woke up at 10:30 am and the battery was at 96%.

I have turned off Compass calibration and setting time zone.  I have location services on but only for Siri and Find my IPhone.  ICloud is on for my reminders, contacts, calendars, reminders, documents & data, and find my Iphone.  I've got automatic brightness turned off and it's set 1/2 way.  No email (I have yet to set it up, once I do I will let everyone know how it affects battery life)

I've used my phone since I got up this morning (short phone calls, siri, facebook, no wifi, music for about 2:30 hours straight, a little internet browsing and youtubing)

    I'm at 43% right now

    Usage- 6 Hours, 5 Minutes

    Standby 21 Hours, 52 Minutes

I have pretty much same settings except I set brightness to a quarter, wifi on, but icloud off except for find my iphone. Now its empty with only 5 hours usage.

Just got my iPhone 4s a couple days ago and battery life seems to be about half of what ip4 was.  Use to be able to go a night without charging, but I'm barely making it 12-14 hours to get thru the day now.  I'm at 10% with 12 hours, 10 min of standby time, and 2 hours of use showing since last charge.  When I set up the phone, I did not restore it from a back of my previous iphone, so it was a fresh install. I set up as new phone and then synced with iTunes, so I don't think a restore is the answer for me.  The install should have been clean.

Love the new 4s, but the battery life is a huge bummer so far.  Really hoping there's some kind of solution to this.

-Already lost 10% already in the last half hour, I did a re-contract and paying the price for this equipment, sadly it really isn't worth the price tag even outright especially on the battery life.

Sean@speedysparrow.com - is my mailing address so hoping someone does recognise the issues at hand and does work on making a fix, I doubt I could even opt out of a contract term as I do travel a fair bit and if the battery is the way it is now I cannot really rely on it personally.

Wonder what the androids are like?

My current record for battery life on the Droid Bionic - standard battery - is 57 hours.  That's with everything set to manual which is still usable, it's just a different way of using the phone.  Full 4G.

If I let the phone do its thing but no Social Location and no Push corporate email...23-25 hours.  That's assuming standalone GPS of a few minutes from Google Maps, some calls throughout the day, texting, web browsing, news, etc.  Full 4G.

These battery issues are basically what HTC Thunderbolt users have/had been dealing with since the phone's release, and that's not even a dual core.

I thought it was just me... Swapped out my Blackberry for the 4S and I can't believe how quickly the battery runs out. Does not last the day before it needs charging either in the car or at home. I will try to turn off things that are running in the background and dim the screen to see if that helps.

I have tried everything on this site to try and help the battery...unfortunately I am not sure what to expect and when I ask at the genius bar(which I have seen twice), no good answer is given...they are very vague about it...this is not a problem wtih all iphones...but it seems like 100 pages of discussion is enought to get people wondering..i wish the engineers would monitor my phone too...maybe this is just waht we will have to deal with till the next iphone comes out and they put a bigger battery and get rid of the quirks...who knows...first iphone, came from android because of the battery issue....kind of a disappointment...the only thing I can say about apple is their customer service is awesome...and obviously their laptops and tablets are fantastic....but I cant brag about the iphone since this is my first...and not a good experience...

My iPhone 4S I was dropping in battery life in the double digits while in close proximity to my laptop with iTunes, I disabled iTunes WiFi sync today and my battery issues have gone away.
