Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

That may explain the folks who have very rapid discharging of the battery. I am not sure if I have a "problem" per se but I am not impressed with the battery life if this is normal.

    Hi guys,

as promised here is the feedback. I'm sure i have found a solution.

    Before fix:

6 hours standby and i lost 20% of my charge

    After fix:

10 hours standby and i lost 4% of my charge.

(Measured pure standby, WiFi, Bluetooth, Location Services, PUSH Notification all were OFF)

If you have battery problems restore your IPhone with iTunes and set it up as a new Phone.

and no calls  ,no web,no gps, reminders?  nothing on regular use......

I had a 3G but instead of syncing and restoring a back up, I set it up as a new phone and used bump to transfer my apps and contacts. Not experiencing radical charge issues (having to charge more than once per day) but I've lost 50% of battery over 14 hours - not terrible but not great.

"If you have battery problems restore your IPhone with iTunes and set it up as a new Phone."

This is probably the one thing I didn't try out of all the valid suggestions in this thread. I have made some gains along the way, but not enough to keep me from calling Apple to return the phone.

BUT... since the phone was being boxed up, I ran the restore to wipe the data.

By the time I disconnected the phone from the computer, it was charged to 96% of capacity.

I watched the "pristine" phone with no iCloud, no Siri, no location services and no Bluetooth sit on my desk -- bright screen and all.

This amazing thing happened: the numbers on my battery status weren't moving like a meter.

So, I added in the System Activity Monitor app I got and ran it constant for a while.

A few spikes here and there, but nothing of note..

38 minutes later and I just dropped to 95% (I dropped 8% in 25 minutes of pure standby earlier today).

Now at Standby of 40 and use of 20- and just the single % point drop.

    Yes, it was purely standby.

I measured it on standby because, i had the battery problems even in standby. I charged my iPhone and went to bed it lost in 6 hours (standby) 20%. That was unbelievable.

I restored it with iTunes and tested it with the same setting to have a reliable comparison.

After the fix, 10 hours standby and lost only 4% of charge.

    That's a huge improvement.

Although this is my first iphone (4s), I didn't notice anything abnormal about battery drain or overheating issues for the first few days.  In fact, having come from an Android phone I was pretty pleased.  I then went to the Diamond Heights area of San Francisco for a day and noticed that the battery was draining 1% per every few minutes.  Additonally it seemed abnormally hot (burning a hole in my pocket hot) even though I had not been using it for anything other than checking email.  I put it away and a couple of hours later I noticed an "Invalid SIM" message.  I turned it off and on several times and did a couple of hard resets.  Nothing worked, I continued to receive the "Invalid SIM" message, and I was about to head to the Apple store when I decided to Google any possible fixes.  I found one that suggested popping the SIM tray and reinserting.  I did and it got the phone back in business.  I left the area and the phone seemed to work as normal again.  The next day I returned to the Diamond Heights area for work and the phone started heating up again with significant battery drain although I never got any more "Invalid SIM" situations.

I haven't been back to that part of SF since and it seems as if my iphone has been working fine with normal battery drain and no significant heating.  Although I don't have any data to pass on I can say that I have bluetooth off, 15 min fetch on email, wifi off, iCloud with reminders and find my iphone only, and very few apps on board.  I am wondering, based on my experience in Diamond Heights, if there is an issue with the way the phone handles being transferred to different or certain cell towers.  I don't have any background in cell technology, but thought it strange that my phone's behavior was isolated to a certain geographical area.

E.T.  PHONE HOME? ........the phone want to communicate to mothership.......

sorry for the joke...........my friend   can t resist

it is becoming a big joke and apple dont say a word. $650. down the drain.

my phone is in flip-flop phone MODE PERIOD.

    have a good day guys.

That would indicate normal standby battery use...

4% @ 10 hours = 100% @ 250 hours (we're supposed to get 200 hours of standby... and I'm sure the meter is not that accurate).

but at the minute you surf on the web , calls, etc etc....you lose all improvement.

I'm pretty sure there is a problem with the pre-installed OS on the devices.

I noticed that after the restore with iTunes i got a new menu option in the Settings, before the restore i had no Personal Hotspot entry in the Settings Menu, now i have one.

    You should check it.

Now my Settings menu looks like:

    --------------------------------------

    Airplane Mode

    Wi-Fi

    Personal Hotspot

    Notifications

    Locations Services Carrier

    ....

Connect your iPhone to iTunes and de-select the "Wi-fi Sync" option on the Summary tab.

Can you do me a favor and take a snapshot of it and post it on here?

Also what kind of phone do you have.. and do you have the Personal hotspot service activated on your account?

I feel like this is something only if you have the service activated... otherwise it means nothing..

Just fill me in with more info about ur device and what it looks like Thanks!!

I bought the iPhone 4s for my wife and can watch the phone battery meter go down 1% every few minutes.  I have turned off Siri, iCloud, location based services, and reinstalled iOS 5... the problem continues.  I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 with no battery problems.  However, I ordered my own iPhone 4s replacement for my iPhone 4 and am regretting that decision.
