Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

"but at the minute you surf on the web , calls, etc etc....you lose all improvement."

    Maybe.

But, this is he strongest indication to me yet that it is not a physical problem with the battery.

I have tried all possible work around for my phone the last few days.  Now i am going to do what you suggested to restore to factory settings... hope this works... if not then i will have to bring it to Apple store.

I bought iphone 4S 3 days ago. This morning around 7:30 AM the battery was 100% and throughout the day I did nothing but few texts only (lets say 30 text). That was pretty much it. Most of the time the phone was on sleep mode as I was working and not even single call made or recieved on it today.

Right now its 10:30 PM and left over battery is 35%. This is really not a good sign.

It's a new iPhone 4S 16GB black, i didn't activate anything, i got the Phone, turned it on, went through the activation process by the phone (without itunes). That's it, there was no personal hotspot menu entry. I didn't activate personal hotspot in my account.

After the restore i had the personal hotspot entry, it's greyed out, i can't turn it on but it's there, before the restore there was no entry in menu.

I've also noticed poor battery life with the 4s.  It's about an hour or two worse than the motorola droid, and I have it on the lowest brightness setting.  Maybe have a way to turn vibrate off?

Mine is equally terrible. What is even more amazing is that at times, on my clock-radio charger, it will even DECREASE and lose power while it is supposed to be charging. I've never seen anything like it. None of my previous iPhones suffered this problem.

I've read a lot of the different posts about turning off this service and that service but if we do that, what is the point of owning an iPhone if we cripple it by turning off the very features that make it an iPhone?

The solution is, it doesn't seem to have been thoroughly tested and Engineering needs to continue work to rectify the problem.

I have noticed the dramatic battery loss with my 4s, nowhere near as my old 4 on os5.I gave my partner my 4 and she at the moment has longer lasting phone.I really don't want to turn off features I got the phone for.

Just my 2 cents and maybe a hint for Apple: I had the problem of loosing 10% per hour with 3gs and 4, and nothing helped, not switching off/on, not switching off GPS stuff, not .... everything tried

*But* one day, having this drain I enabled my VPN connection, then switched it off, and then the 10% per hour drain  was gone. And anytime I experience the 10% per hour drain again, I switch on VPN, let it sync, and then off, and the drain is normal again

       Ciao Hermann

For what it is worth I did have a similar problem when upgrading from IOS 4 to 5 on a iPhone 4.  For the first couple of days the battery drained at a constant rate.  Heck you could watch it counting down in the battery percent field.  The only things I tried was a reset a few times, turned off WiFi, re-synced in iTunes, turned on WiFi, enabled WiFi syncing in iTunes, did a wireless sync, and finally let it charge over night.  The next morning everything was back to normal.

Just chiming in to say, "Me, too" ... I think. I'm not sure that my 4S's battery performance is as terrible as some here have reported, but it sure doesn't seem great, and it's much worse than the Treo I upgraded from. I can barely make it through a day of moderate usage without getting down to 10 percent.

I've noticed the same problem. Just starting seeing posts and articles about it. I upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a 4S, and I definitely notice a drain on the battery. I use to be able to go a couple of days on a charge while mostly in stand-by with normal activity of checking email and text messages. Now I barely last a day. I hope they find out what the problem is and fix it fast.

Check what apps are syncing with icloud...If you have alot they will be eating battery as they are always checking for updates, turn bluetooth off when not using and if you have push email...check how often it is checking it....It will burn a little more than previous versions but shouldnt be that bad.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this in the specs before buying, but the standby battery time for the iPhone 4S was clearly listed as a full 33% lower than the 4.  200 hours for the 4S versus 300 hours for the 4. I found this curious, and would also like to know why this new version of the phone burns through the battery so much faster when idle. A lot more must be going on behind the scenes - but what?

I only got into smartphones in 2010 - starting with a used Original iPhone, and now this iPhone 4S. Coming from a frugal Nokia 1208 cell phone with a 15 day standby time (heck, I could go on vacation and not have to go out and buy a charger if I forgot my charger at home) adjusting to the smartphone reality of having to recharge a phone daily was an irritant.

I hope there's a battery technology breakthrough some time soon, because the single biggest pain in the *** regarding iPhones and all other smartphones is the inadequate battery life. I would gladly put up with a slightly thicker or 15% larger phone if they increased the battery life even just 20-25%.

iCloud is set to sync reminders, photostream, and documents. I never turned my Bluetooth off on my iPhone 4 and my email settings are the same as my old iPhone 4 as well and I didn't have a battery drain issue with it. iCloud is the new item in the mix and could be the culprit; however, I shouldn't need to suffer battery life as much as I am to use the major new feature Apple is bragging about offering.
