Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have been having awful battery life issues since I purchased my 4S. With my iPhone fully charged, at times, I lose 17-20% every 60-90 minutes on standby. I had to purchase a Mophie battery pack just to keep my phone available for use during a normal work day.

I was planning on contacting Apple today, but then I read all these reports online and realized that it would probably just be a waste of my time since it seems so many people are having these issues and there is no solution yet.

Worst part is, I have already tried all the recommendations.

With my job, I am always on the road, and the battery life is a major flaw in an otherwise great product.

    Same here.

I yet have called Apple Care, they changed my iPhone (really quickly, via UPS), and I bouht an Apple Care protection Plan, as I was sure this problem will happen in my new iPhone 4S. Well, I was right.

Even set up as a "new iPhone", without ANY app running, my battery lose about 10% per hour. And if I turn on Siri, iCloud, etc., if I do some 3G call, videos or photos, it's not 10%/hour, but about 5%/min !!!!

If I do NOTHING ELSE using Safari, on a "light" website (9GAG mobile), it's about 1%/minut...

I asked Apple, via Apple Express Lane, to call me tomorow, to find out a solution...

My 4S battery draining severely compared to the 4.  Is this fixable or can I get a refund?

I am in the same boat.  I take my phone off the charger in the morning and but the time I leave for work my charge is already done to like 95% and that's without using the phone at all.  At work I am a light texter and by 6pm my battery charge is under 50% with no phone calls and just texting.

I hope someone solves this battery issue soon.  With my iPhone 4 I could go 2 days without charging and that was with regular use.  With my iPhone 4S I have to charge my phone before nightfall because the battery life will have dropped done to 20% with mostly just texting and using wifi instead of 3G.

I seem to have resolved mine, not entirely sure how though!

    Chain of events:

    1. Turned all the usual suspects off EXCEPT the email push feature (Exchange/Outlook syncing with work servers via VPN)

    2. Battery still rubbish

    3. Realised that I possibly hadn't quite managed to charge to 100% since taking it out of its box, despite having had it three days and trying to charge multiple (lots of) times.

    4. Charged to 100% (via USB not mains), stopped charing.

    5. At approx the same time I turned off email Push feature

    6. Battery performance enhanced dramatically, 45 mins later still 100%!!

    7. Turned everything else back on, except email push

    8. Battery still at 100% 20 mins later

    9. Turned email push back on

    10. 50 mins later battery at 98%!!

So issue seems to have gone away, make of that what you will.

Note that my previous iphone 4 (non iOS5) had absolutely no issues re Push email and battery drain, issue only started with the 4s. Other thing I noticed straight off the bat was how slow it was to charge, even via the mains, compared to before.

    Matthew,

I'm pretty impressed with the # of permutation you tested with. Have you tried turning off Push under Settings > Mail > Fetch New Data? I have found turning it on and off to be very consistent with battery drain. Under Fetch New Data I also check under Advanced and made sure my accounts are set to either Manual or Fetch.

Also, I have turned off General > Spotlight Search > Mail, as I suspect that indexing my high volume of emails for searching is eating up CPU time. I'd be interested if you can enable your Exchange account and try these combinations and record the battery behavior. I tried this on my wife's iPhone 4 with Exchange and it seem to help hers (about 1% drain per hour).

Hopefully these experimentation is helpful to Apple in tracking this issue down. The process feels reminiscent of the OS9 days trying to ferret out a misbehaving extension...

    Hi,

I have extremely poor battery life, lasts about less than a day, with no usage. I turned off everything on my iPhone 4s, all location services, no push notifications, everything set to manual, iCloud is off too. Did a full charge yesterday to test, woke up after 8 hours and 15% had been used, on standby! How can that be, nothing is running in the background.  When I'm actually using the phone, making calls, playing games, it's about 8 hours battery life, that's crazy!

    Apple please help!!!

    Hello,

I haven't read the entire thread, but has anyone tried to go into Settings -> Locationservices -> Systemservices (at least I think thats what they're called, my iOS systemlanguage isn't English) and disabling the Timezone setting?

If you don't have a GPS symbol near the battery, you should try and enable the Statusbar Symbol in the Systemservices menu.

I found that, when using iOS 5 GM i had an issue with my battery not lasting more than 10 hours tops on standby, and I then turned on the Statusbar Symbol, I could see that it was the Timezone setting that was using the GPS chip in my iPhone 4, so I disabled the Timezone setting, and after that my batterylife hasn't been as bad as it was before.

    Hope it helps

Hi there ... I had same problem with battery. It seems to be iOS 5 that make a bigger consume of battery power.

Even if I put out every feature the battery get faster down than before with iOS 4.

Does anyone know about an update which will fix the battery issue???

It is not really customer friendly if you have tu load your cellphone twice a day if you have to use it sometimes.

    Thanks for Answers.

    Phil
