Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I got the 4S and did the battery calibration for the first 3 charges.  The battery life is excellent after that.  If there were still issues I'd take it back and get another one.  Not all of the 4S's have battery issues.  Mine doesn't now.

Turned most of notification on my 4S (Sprint) off, also location of all, no Bluetooth and no wifi. Little use and still loosing 4-6% per hour. I'm sure it is software related, because here's an interesting and unexplicable thing: Upgraded my 3GS to 5.0 only turn it on once a day for a couple of minutes to check missed calls. Then I charge it to 100% and turn it completely off.

When I turn it on the next day, about the same time, the charge dropped to 85%????

64g iPhone 4S, losing about 10% or more per hour on the Verizon network. I thought it might be the case (it's plastic, very little ventilation), but when it was in airplane mode in that case, it only lost 1% over about 7 hours. I've had it with airplane mode turned off now for about one hour, it's down 12% (99% to 87%). I just took off the case but I'm pretty sure it won't matter.

Since the last full charge I had 56 minutes of usage, 6 hours and 21 minutes of standby time. It's nothing short of horrible. It went down to zero battery TWICE yesterday with very, very little usage. If the phone can't last at least one day on Standby with basically no usage when it is brand-new, that's a HUGE problem. At this point, I'd rather have my 2 year old Droid back.

Have the same problem as other iPhone 4 (not the S) users after upgrading to iOS 5.

I did'nt know if it comes from the iCloud Service, but i guess it's a part of the problem.

I really don't know what the problem with the iPhone4S battery is.

My battery was going from 100% to 0% in the space of 18 hours with no usage at all (all on standby).  I asked two friends who also purchased an iPhone4S if they were experiencing battery problems and they said their battery life was normal.

It was only after they told me they were getting a around a day of battery charge that I realised that they had no idea what 'normal' battery was.  They had thought that 1 day of standby time was normal for a phone.

I think the problem is more widespread than people think.  Looking at some other forums, people are claiming that they are having no issues with their phone as they can go a day without having to re-charge.

You should be getting more than 1 day of standby time.

I have tried the fixes noted here, and my battery life is better.  I can now go 2 days without having to re-charge, but battery life should be better than that.

I would take 18 hours of standby at this point, not that it's acceptable, but that's 3 times longer than what I'm getting.

@AndrewC1970 - what fixes in particular did you apply?

I keep seeing a lot of reports regarding contacts. Interestingly, I saw an article that told me to look here

    Settings > General > About > Diagnostic & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data

I saw a ton of error reports in there and am sure a lot of other people reading this will. All my contacts come from Gmail set up as an exchange account whereas other people report the crashes coming from icloud and their contacts. Anyway, I have a mass of activity in this log so something is going on for sure.

Me too - lots of 'low memory' reports, what are they about?

    Hi,

    Here is what I did.

    1.  Drained battery from 100% to 0%.  This was pretty easy to do as my iPhone was dying so quickly.  This was to try and calibrate the battery.  I have done this 5 times, but most forums say 2-3 times should be enough.

    2.  Restored my phone back to factory settings and re-downloaded IOS5 from the Apple Server (then restored my content)

    3.  Turned off Diagnostics & Usage being automatically sent to Apple

    4. Reset my network settings

    5. Have my phone set to fetch for new data

    6. Turned off time zone support

    7. Turned off lots of location settings (to only essential apps)

    8. Turned off some iCloud settings (photo stream)

    9. Deleted (then restored all of my email accounts)

    10. Turned off Siri - Raise to speak

That's about it.  Battery life has improved, but still not as good as my iPhone4.  My wife's iPhone4 is exactly the same as my iPhone4S, and she gets considerably better battery life than my 4S. Looking at my battery now, I am at 48% after 22 hour 39 minutes.  My wife's iPhone4 is at 87% with 23 hours 17 minutes of standby.

The only real difference between the phones would be the processor speed and Siri.  As a result I am concerned that the 'fault' may not be just software related.

    Hopefully a fix comes soon.

THis is pretty bad.  I am at my desk most of the day and used to be able to go all day without charging or plugging in.

Now? Before lunch time the phone is on 35% battery life where on my iPhone 4 I would still have 92%.

THis is with acouple calls and pure wifi with almost no use since im sitting at my computer!!!

IVe tried doing some of the tweaks I've seen online with location services and I constantly kill all apps, but why should I have to nurse a phone that promised so much..it's the 3GS all over again!

PLease fix ASAP since when I'm at conferneces and all day meetings this phone will be useless I have to turn off everything but the ability to make calls just for it to last out the day.

I stumbled upon this thread from an article in The Guardian.  I myself have not been seeing any battery life problems with the 4S but a colleague of mine has.  We are both on Sprint but I have been leaving my 3G data turned off almost since I started using the 4S on October 14th due to the lousy network speeds with Sprint.  I have WiFi just about everywhere I go, courtesy of Cablevision's OptimumWiFi service, so 3G service has not really necessary.

My colleague has not been turning off his 3G radio and is seeing battery life issues.  I had always figured it would save a little power turning off 3G since I wasn't using the feature and saw no reason to power a radio I was not using (ham radio operator mentality).  It appears that it is saving quite a bit of power for me.  The only variable I do not know is talk time.  I am not a big talker and have not had much voice use on the iPhone.  My colleague uses voice quite often but an exact figure is not known to me.

Between the 3G speeds on Sprint and the battery issues, I think I will be leaving the 3G turned off for quite some time!

Same problems. This is my first Iphone, went with it because of the features and extended talk time, but I can sit and watch my phone lose battery life, while it sits on my desk.

Anyone try to figure out the commonalities between the phones with dying batteries?

I've let this phone die 10 times concurrently, hoping it would "condition" the batery.
