Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

So following the advice of others on this thread I restored my iPhone 4s as a new phone rather than from the backup of my iPhone 4 and it worked! Battery life is now what it should be, at least comparable to my iPhone 4.  And because my contacts, events, and reminders were all backed up on iCloud they showed right back up when I logged in. As were the pictures on my photo stream.

So it does appear there is a solution, at least for some of us!

Do not restore your new 4s from a 4 backup. Restore it as a new phone!

Lol. Pretty sure that is way beyond apples specifications. Even 5% in half hour is above their specs. Still I agree. Could definitely do better. If I did everything everyone else on here has done like turn the phone into a phone and not a computer...thanks again tho.

I can take mine off the charger, and withing 10 minutes of checking FaceBook and Twitter feeds.  Along with reading three or four emails first thing in the morning, I lose anywhere from 10 - 15%.  It goes so fast I have HAD to buy a mophie juicepack.  I can get 3 hours of usage then dead, 2 more with the mophie.  It is horrible.  And I would still rather have this than any other phone.  Just hoping for some fix to resolve this issue.

Battery life on the 4S is almost nonexistent. After fully charging overnight, I spent ten minutes just reading email, asked Siri about 8 questions, made one phone call and left a message (45 seconds total time elapsed), received one call of two minutes, and the remainder of the time it was in standby. The battery ran to empty 12 hours after removing it from the charger. This is unusable and quite contrary to my experience with all previouis iPhone models.

    Hello All;

I've been following this thread daily. I had the same issue as the original poster.
What helped tremendously was resetting my network settings, deleting my email account, restarting my phone then resetting "all settings". I restored from an iphone 3G. Bottom line, after completing the following, my standby time went from 6h to 30h. What i did notice was, after the initial restore; my exchange accounts would cycle between "number of min to meeting" and "meeting time". it would flicker between the two. I ended up removing all exchange accounts, then adding them again. Again, Battery life between charges extended. I would be happy to help apple and/or any other 4s owner resolve this issue. I'm sure there'll be an ios 5 update coming shortly that will markedly improve battery life soon.

    Regards,

    A

I'm very frustrated with the battery life on my new iPhone 4s. I'm traveling and in the past two days have been stuck with a dead battery when I really needed it. I never had this problem with my 3G phone even as my battery life got weaker on my 3 year old phone!

Battery was draining after full-charge within 6 hours. Got my 4S on Wednesday. After 2 COMPLETE discharges all the way down to within 10% it seems to be holding its proper charge. I also did the following after the second discharge:

    1. Disable Calendar Notifications.

    2. Turn off location services --> time zone.

    3. Turn off location services --> Diagnostics, iads.

Seems to be working fine.. more info in a couple hours. Hope it helps.

    Try turning of Ping too.

And as much as I enjoy her help, turning Siri off also increases battery life. She's definitely helpful, but not at the cost of receiving messages and calls.

This will probably roll off to 10 pages old in a few hours , but still worth it: try the tips listed on this blog post, #1 and #2 being the two biggies:

    A) http://pcbin.blogspot.com/2011/10/ios-5-battery-drain-solution-iphone-4s.html

    B) and seems like disabling Calendar Notification helps for those with Exchange

    if that didn't help, try

    C) Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

    and last resort:

    D) Restore the phone and Use As New Phone, and add your accounts/apps back in manually (rather than from a backup).

My iPhone 4S, after I fully charged it for slightly over 8 hours for the first charge, unplugged it, turn on 3G, in one hour's time, battery life went down from 100% to 85%, and only ONE app was being used. Charging the phone on a daily basis is surely gonna damage the battery within one year...is Apple gonna do anything to resolve the issue?

    UPDATE:

Turning off the calendar notifications really worked for me! This is BIG improvement over the 10-15% batt drop/hour the last 2 weeks... I have everything else turned ON (wifi,Siri,Loc Services, 2 Notifications, Cellular Data)..brightness in the middle.

    Phone is at 33% battery

    Usage: 3 Hours, 35 MInutes

    Standby: 23 Hours, 14 Minutes

    This was what I did....

    Reset all settings.

Turned off diagnostics & usage, location based iAds, setting time zone..

These improves the batt life further but still room for improvement. Guess that's a temporary fix for me till something great comes out of Apple.
