Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I've bought my iphone 4GS black 16 GB yesterday from the provider KPN (The Netherlands)

And i read things on the news that the battery of the iphone 4s *****... and i was like, huh?

Then after unpacking, i installed and sync all my stuf on it, then i let it charge to 100%...

Then i closed all my apps, started with pilot mode, then switched to network, and start imessaging with a friend.. and in 30 minutes of texting i lost 20% of my battery :S from 100 to 80.. and i asked him *he got an iphone 4* what he used.. and it was far less :S

Now im downloading some apps etc.. and i went from 81 to about 40 in just an hour...

Yesterday when i slept it was 3:37 AM my battery had 86% and when i wake up this morning at 11:57 AM it was like 81%.. that was i think to much.. 5% of battery in like 8 hours stand by... all closed apps, doing nothing..

Hope apple will find the bug, and comes with a new update verry soon! i didnt even used my music player yet and thats one of the reason i bought this iphone.. i hope i can listning to my music when im traveling to school, and then can use my phone at school also and dont die before i get there!

Now i try to backup my files and restore my phone.. hope that will work, because some people tried that and said that should work.. lets hope so!

My4s is 10 days old and was shipped direct to me from china. I went to the bar on my own accord before I read anything on this forum. As I knew there was a battery issue just from my past techinal experiences. They did some of the suggestions stated here, which helped some. No ticket was created the first time

I went back just 24 hours later. After doing all the tricks I read here. Saying if these things are not on I'm not using the phone as it should be used. Seems to be better.

If you live near an Apple Store I would get the paper trail started. Apple is the best company I have ever worked with for customer service. They will make it right. If I had not sold my 3g,I would have returned the 4s and waited for this to blow over.

The fix I posted previously (page 128) has been working very well for me!  My constant 80% CPU drain is gone (but I lose my personal handwarmer)...

    All I did was:

    1.  In Settings/Notifications - Disable Calendar

I haven't tried the popular fix that also seems to work well:

    2. In Settings/Location Services/System Services - Turn "Setting Time Zone" to OFF.

I'm curious, for those still having the rapid battery drain, did these settings not fix the issue?  Or have you not read previous posts???

My battery life seems better than my 3GS now.  Good Luck!

Started yesterday with a 100% at 11:00 AM made no calls, but took 50 pictures and mms'd about 10 pictures to a friend. Noticed that the phone got very hot. Heat needs energy! At 9:00 PM I had 14% charge and pictures where stuck in mailing pipeline. Turned phone off and back on still could not mms pictures. Left phone on over night to drain the battery, when I woke up this morning the phone still had 14%...

I changed some setting like turning off the Setting Time zone etc and turned off the phone and restarted to eliminate the chances of anything running in the background.

Went to sleep for 6 hours and my battery was drained 10% i.e. standby mode.

    Now thats unacceptable.

I have 10% battery loss every hour, on stand-by!!! Rediculous! Very dissapointing! And I thought my 3Gs was bad on battery life after 2 years. I got the 4S yesterday. Did a complete re-install today, no putting back a  back-up or anything. Same results...

    HELP!!

Are you absolutely sure it's the hardware, then? Probably is software.

I am not so sure.  My first 4s had terrible battery life.  I tried every suggestion I could find, including a restore to factory settings and setting up as a new phone.  Nothing helped.  I took it to the "genius" bar, where they ran the diagnostics and told me everything was working normally (not!).  They offered to restore the software again, claiming that the software I had downloaded from Apple (ios5) was probably corrupted (which I don't think is possible, as this would have changed the digital signature, causing iTunes to not allow installation).  Instead, I bought a new 4s on the spot and returned my original 4s online for a refund (because it was ordered online, the store would not accept the return, but the online return process was fairly painless).  I restored the new 4s from the backup of the old 4s (which contained the "corrupted software").  The battery life on the new phone has been leaps and bounds beyond the battery life on the original phone, and is very close to what I got from my iPhone 4.  (and as a side benefit, the screen on the new phone is much better too - more contrasty and purer white instead of yellow tinged).  Long story short - in my case, the hardware seems to have been the problem, not the software.

I'm having the same issue too.  I don't video stream or or use any power demanding apps.  But even in minimal use and in standby mode, the battery level would drop about 10% every hour.  I have to bring my charger and cable to school to prevent my phone from running out of juice during the day.

Same here - i charged to 100% overnight, 3 hours of a few texts and a short phone call and I'm at 45%.

    3GS never had this problem.

Not to discount you, but some folks are going to have hardware issues and Apple will replace your iPhone in those cases. But for the vast majority, the fix is to disable "Setting Time Zone":

So, I plugged the phone in to the charger last night. Powered it down. Nearly 8 hours later, I power it on and it shows 100% capacity.

Here's the interesting part: The usage stats show exactly as they did last night when I shut it off - and it indicates that the phone did not receive a full charge.

    Hummmm.

As there have been reports of "corrupted contacts" I disabled Contacts sync via iCloud and cleared out the Contacts on my iPhone.  No perceptible improvement whatsoever in battery longevity.

And just for the sake of clarity: there are plenty of people who have what appear to be software issues who are either not able to resolve them or who resolve them by means other than the time zone.

As I've said previously, there are probably a number of "causes" and thus a number of resolutions.

The fix that you describe had no benefit for me whatsoever. Wiping the phone out completely did.
