Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I had the same problem when i got my new iphone 4s. the battery lost ap. 10% in stand-by every hour.

But suddenly it was better. after several charges from 100% to 0% and from 0% to 100% the battery was okay. it loses now only 10% over 24 hours in standby.

I have allowed my battery to drain to zero and completed a full charge cycle last night.

started at 100%, about 7 1/2 hours of standby still at 100%. Thought maybe this is good...30 mins of use, 8% percent drop in battery life.

I have done restore, turned off all the things people are talking about, etc...no luck. I am not sure whats causing this...maybe they will fix it, maybe they wont...will see I guess.

    To all people:

Why should we shut down all those stuff (notifcation etc)?? if apple wants to fix this, they should reload ios4.. untill they have found the problem! and solve this.. if you shut all those things off you have a handicap ios5 :S

if you shut down those things, you can better shut down, bluetooth, wifi and 3g data :S... then you have no problems!

Please apple make ios4 available for iphone 4s!!! until you ******** fix this, hope you will give us credits to purchase apps.. because of this big issue!

Well, I spoke too soon. Although yesterday I achieved my highest standby and usage results (approx 2.5 days standby) after numerous setting tweaks, I am now back to phantom processor usage and relatively rapid battery decline. The only thing I did different was a not quite full charge(97%) from a not quite depleted battery(5%). This is oppossed to consistently letting the battery run all the way down and then all the way up. Presumbably the revived phantom process is eating my battery life: of 1hour and 41minutes of standby, 44minutes were of usage and I am down 4% over that period. I had not used the phone at all along with no background apps. I also had powered down and up the iphone to make sure all background processes were cleared out. This on a 4s black 32G model , C39xxx serial number on ATT received direct from asia on pre order.

Hmmm... I'm really going to miss my Calander notificatons tomorrow at work!  Crazy but it's what I had to do to halt the constant 80% CPU use...

I'm going to try the time zone setting today (while avoiding setting up the phone as new for now...) and see how that goes.

Edit: Time zone setting did not work for me.... Only disabling Calendar notifications works for me but now I have to rely on reminders.  Maybe I'll try a restore if as new....

1-i am relived i am clearly not the only one with this problem

2-battery is horrible. i constantly need to have my charger.

3-if i use an app (like a game for instance, drops 20 - 30% in minutes.

4-my 3gs battery was infinitely better than this.

    5-looking forward to a solution.

6-purchase 6x iphone 4s white 16gbs for myself and my staff. i am the only one with this problem.

I've shut down almost everything. Charged it 100%, used it for around 6 hours and the battery was around 20%. All I did was, shoot ~4 min. of videos, took  ~25 pictures, checked facebook once, used web ~15min. Thats it. Of course the additional checking the time, looking if there is email and stuff is not included, but usage wise i feel like I didn't use it much and the battery was gone...

Apple, either fix this problem or give us all free charges cases, so we can charge the iPhone 4s all day long. Otherwise, it just does not stand to everyday usage....

And what's up with shutting every functionality down?? Then why did I buy an iPhone 4s??

I let the battery drain and then do a full charge, trickle charge.  I remove the phone from the charger and within minutes, the battery drops.  I am confident that apple will fix this.  I turn of bluetooth and wifi while not using it.  I'm with virgin and sometimes it says that I'm with Bell (yes, I know they are the same company).

Same! Awful battery life. Can't tell if its better or worse than 3GS. I go to school with it on standby 100%, end of school (roughly 6 hours) and its dead. No WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular Data, or anything. Appalling Apple!

Went to see a Genius yesterday and they ran a diagnostic on the phone and said it's "fine". The also said Apple is aware and will probably release a patch some time.

That said, I charged the phone last night to 100% and took it off when I went to sleep. about 9 hrs later, the phone was at 95%, with doing nothing more than siting idle all night. 2 hrs later, all I've done is basically look at an email, and the phone is at 82%. This cannot be right.

    APPLE, Please fix this!

I have done all the tweaks and discharged and charged my phone. This is what I got after about 22 HRS. This is sitting at home on Wifi, surfing web lightly, taking about 12 pictures, 3-1 min movies and about 25 texts and One 2 minute phone call and with 3G active.

This is certainly better than 10% an hour loss but come on!!! This is not even close to the performance that was advertised. Really wish I hadn't sold my 3GS because I would be taking the 4S back until this is sorted out. I got way better battery life out of my 3GS.

I had the same issue when I upgraded to ios5. I downloaded an app called "memory status". It is $.99. Ran a full system clean and that seamed to solve it. Haven't had any battery issues since.
