Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I've noticed that once I unplug my 4S from the charger, it instantly drops from 100% to 99%. After I reset the phone it goes back up to 100%. Weird.

I was having terrible battery issues and tried everything listed. Reset, turned off everything that might drain the phone and nothing worked. I went to the apple store in Vegas and while they didn't acknowledge this was an issue he did show me something. Go to systems, general and look at your usage since last full charge. Even though I had drain to shutoff and charged to full according the the battery app (battery doctor) it had a - which meant it had never fully charged. I deleted the battery app and do not have one on my 4s or iPad and both are working great. No more heating up either. It appears that the app was keeping my phone from charging.

My solution.  This may not be an option for many of you, but this is what FIXED the issue for me.  I deleted all my contacts and calendars from my mac and icloud.  Restored my iPhone and set it up as a new iPhone within iTunes.  I was able to reenter my contacts and calendar by looking at my iPad, which I disabled iCloud on.  Then I synced all my music, pictures, and apps back to the freshly restored iPhone.  I know this is a pain, but did fix my battery issue.

With 2 hours of usage and over 14 hours of standby I have 90% battery left.  I suspect the problem had something to do with a corrupt contact.

    *wanted to add

All my notifications and various settings are on or in their default.  With the exception of bluetooth.  I don't use it so I turned it off.

I had the same issue when I upgraded to ios5. I downloaded an app called "memory status". It is $.99. Ran a full system clean and that seamed to solve it. Haven't had any battery issues since.

Less than 24hours standby, phone completley dead. No calls, no texts, no internet, no location services, nothing in notification centre, only wifi switched on. Help apple please, i want to go and get my old nokia out so i can actually have a phone for a day - you know to make phone calls and stuff - but i cant put the fricking micro sim in it!!!

Surely its not contacts etc cos my ipad 2 3G with full icloud enabled and ios 5 doesnt have this problem!!

I tried to resolve the poor battery life by turning off push for all my email accounts. All of them are set to fetch hourly now. It seems to have had a positive effect though I don't have empirical numbers to support this. My location service and screen brightness settings are set to their defaults, and I have been using wifi for the majority of my data usage. With that the case my iPhone 4s has averaged 50% battery life by the end of my day.

Switch OFF "Setting Time Zone" will save battery life.

The setting can be found in Settings -> Location Services -> scroll to bottom to "System Services" -> Setting Time Zone.

Same problem here! I went from 42% to 38% of battery life in about 3 minutes just reading a page on the web with all other applications closed. If I have to shut down all the novelties on my 4S, might as well go back to my 3G...

I sincerly hope for an update soon.

I have still not got my iPhone 4S, but here are couple of observations I made running iOS 5 on two iPhone 4's -

    1. Disabling Diognostics & Usage in the General --> About saves a considerable amount of battery.

    2. Not having To-Do's with a Geo-Fence reminder also contributes significantly towards a longer battery life.

    3. Putting off "Fetch" for email accounts that do not suport PUSH, or maybe setting the Mail app to FETCH only once every 30 minutes or 1 hour helps.

After I upgraded my iPhones to iOS 5.0 1 & 2 have been the culprits with regard to battery life. Been using iOS 5 since the first beta and it has always been those two. I guess if your phone does not have any inherent hardware problem putting off 1 & 2 should help!

    Same Problem.

    T-Mobile Germany.

Disabled all location services (which I dont need), Mails are not pushed.

30% Battery usage in at least 8 or 9 hours

    Apple please fix it!

    2nd iPhone 4s.

Everything disabled (it's just a phone).

Needs to get charged every day or at least every second day

    Apple please fix it!

I am having the same problem for my 2-days Iphone 4s here in Singapore.

Hope Apple can fix this very soon.

I do not want my Iphone battery life drained in a few hours.

Same problem over here. I got my iPhone 4S friday (day for the italian release) and I noticed the same problem, in standby it loses 1% each 50 minutes / 1 hour, while playing a game for 5 minutes it loses 3%, battery drains to fast. I hope that this will get fixed and that it isn't a problem with the hardware. My question is only 1... In months of testing (cause Apple had this chance), why did no one notice this?

I experienced many of the same issues mentioned in the above thread, however, after performing a full restore, teetherd to my Mac rather than over WiFi, my battery life appears to be draining normally.  And by normally, I mean it isn't draining at 10 - 15% every 20 minutes.

Way up thread there was a link to http://www.tipb.com/2011/10/23/fix-battery-life-problems-ios-5-iphone-4s/

and after reading through the comments, reader AussieOi, indicated a potential resolution he received after heading into the Apple store.  Hope this works for others.
