Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Hi have the same problem here in Germany. After having issues with the micro sim (t-mobile), I ordered a new micro sim, but the problem with the battery life remains. I restored my iphone 4s twice and didn't put any backup on it. When I got the phone about 1 week ago, usage time and standby time were always the same. The battery dropped about 4 percentage points per hour. After several charges, the two times slightly differ, but I still have high usage times even if the phone is just lying around with full reception in the 2G network. When I switch to flight mode, only the standby time rises and I loose only 2-3 percentage points per night. Every tipps I read here didn't help. I'm still getting those high usage times when I don't use my phone I hope it's just a software issue and Apple will fix it soon.

My iphone 4s battery life is horrible. I never had this problem with my 3g, 3gs, or 4. I feel like an Android user now having to carry my charger around with me everywhere I go.

So far today, after a 100% charge (from completely depleted to 100% charge), I'm down 25% on:

    1 hour 11 minutes usage,

    1 hour 15 minutes standby.

I've been doing some light surfing and listening to music.

The standby calculation is I'd - it overlaps active usage, which seems wrong and certainly inflates the numbers.  But it makes little difference when the loss is this steep.

I'm going to take it to the Apple store today and try to get them to replace it.  It rattles and vibrates when you tap it, and I really think this is a hardware problem.

Not really, mine takes about 2 hours to fully charge (0 - 100%).

    Battery 8%

    Usage     4 Hours 43 Minutes

    Standby 2 Days, 18 Hours

    WIFI            ON

    Bluetooth     ON

Location Service     ON for most apps

I use 3 different emails all with push, no exchange however.

All this on my new iPhone 4S, this is my second iPhone since

I turned in my original 4S becuase of the poor battery and warm to the touch during

    light use.

I am still not sure if this is hardware or software, and the battery is not as good as on

previous iPhones but it is way better than my first 4S.

5% in 8 hours is normal that's less than 1 per hour. Giving u around 150 standby hours and the phone isn't doing nothing while it is on standby.  It still receives mail, keeping ur wifi cell etc connections alive and maybe 20 more things

luca6mitico - How long WOULD you expect a full charge to take? I think mine charges very quickly (1 1/2 hrs) when compared to my iPad  but has less than a days usage then. I dont trust it and carry on charging for longer but is the percentage indicator wrong???

And no, I refuse to turn off functionality that i have paid for so please noone tell me that i shouldnt expect to be able to use siri and other stuff. It it doesnt work- dont market the phone by making claims that it does!

To anyone reading this at Apple please be aware that the mainstream UK press has now picked up this story- if you want this to become a new antena gate then go ahead and ignore this discusssion. I dare you!

    Mainstream British Press... Really?

    Did not know that existed.

I think it is already BatteryGate anyway, and I am just waiting for an iOS 5.1 to hope for some improvment.

yes, standby its doing quit normal, with all notifications on etc...

But when im using it for texting etc.. downloading apps .. it drains twice or triple as much of my battery!

Two things seems to work for me one is discharging to zero then returning to hundred percent twice, the other is turn off automatic TimeZone.

When on standby, it eats 1% per hour. And during normal app usage with wifi it eats 15% per hour. Or 2.5% per 10min.

It used to eat 2 per 10 min on STANDBY!

Thanks so much for your post.  I followed every trick in the blog last and it appears to have solved my problem with excessive battery drain.  I charged my phone overnight then took it off the charger.  It's been about an hour and I have sent a few text messages and checked my email and my phone is still at 100% charge.  I so hope this has solved my battery drain problem (fingers crossed).

I like everyone else did a dfu restore, restore from icloud, got a new replacement phone, tweeked all the settings etc. battery life improved,  but there has been no overall solution.

however, just today reading the posts i was fascinated by a number of posters recommendations and removed mail and calendars from the notification center. instantly within a minute i could feel my phone get cold. while not a full day test already i noticed the longest standby time for me and the least droppage in making a call and doing other things.

i'm sure this isn't the final solution, but do  as some have said to remove mail and calendar from notification. although i didn't have active mail accounts something still must have been happening in the backround.
