Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Is there an app that will track your phone's usage of phone calls, 3G, wifi, etc etc to show you how your stats compare against the official specifications from apple?

Why did apple remove the ability to turn off 3G on the 4s?

I have this problem as well. I've noticed that my battery still gets drained by a few percentages even when left on standby and not even using the phone very much. Also when texting and messaging I notice that the percentage of the battery will keep dropping every few mins. I hope Apple can help fix this problem ASAP.

"Discharge your battery twice and recharged hundred percent.   Discharge meaning that to run till it turns off automatically and then charge it fully packed hundred percent"

This is bad advice and should not be followed.  This is unnecessary for lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries, and in fact can shorten the life of the battery. The only possible reason to do this is to reset the battery gauge in the device which is clearly not the problem in this case, since the battery is in fact being depleted.

I too had a 3gs and now the battery life on the 4s is significantly less. I don't use WiFi and several of the other drains. But one thing I do is stream audio (I have an unlimited data) while at my orchid nursery. I noticed that on the 3gs I could stream 6 hours and still have half the battery left. With the 4s it was dead in less than 5 hours.

My personal observations are that location services seem to be the culprit.  I've had good battery life until yesterday using iCloud, push, active sync, etc, etc.

    Here's what happened:

    1. I set a reminder with a geofence.

    2. When I left the location location services continued to run even after the notification was triggered, as indicated by the location services inticator in the status bar.  When this happend the phone had at least 80% charge according to the meter.

    3. after 7 hours on non-use (screen off, no e-mail activity, no messages, etc, etc) the phone was stone dead, requiring power for 10 minutes before getting the charge connected sound.

I am attempting to reproduce this bahavior today.

I had this same problem with the original iPhone 4. Here's what I did:

Turned off Location Services unless I needed them for GPS or mapping

    Turned off notifications

    Manually downloaded email

    Turned off Hotspot until needed.

Checked all my apps to turn off unneeded communications and activities.

That works if you don't mind turning stuff back on when needed.

    Hi Everyone

I experienced fast battery drops as well on the first day I started using the 4s.

If u have exchange mail configured.

    1) Go to settings

    2) Mail, contacts, calendars

    3) select the mail configured in exchange mode

    4) turn off the calendar feature inside

This has cooled up on the battery kill for me.

Note When I backed up and restored my iPhone 4 to the 4s I had 2 instances of my exchange mail running.

I hence had like 50 unread mail in each instance and it showed 100 unread mail as a badge on the mail.

I also went into settings and removed one of the duplicates.

I will confirm this in an hour from now.

I do see some improvement after doing following changes : changed time zone , delete email Calender setting and add again , last my phone completely drain and recharged ,  I used non stopped 2hrs 20 minutes by watching YouTube, text MSG and browsing this forum. My battery went down from full to 75% , and it's been standby for last 11 hrs, currently my battery is at 68%.  7% drop during 11 hrs stand by mode . I like it !!

I like to say that either deleting the duplicate mail or disabling calendar option for exchange has solved this battery drain issue.

Apple please look into this and patch it with the next firmware release.

Alright, I've read through most of this entire thread and it's very hard to tell what is "normal" battery life to except from the 4S. Being that this is my first iPhone I have nothing to compare it to, but as of right now I only have Bluetooth, Ping and Time Setting Zone are turned off. Other than that, I have everything turned on including all location services, notifications, 1 exchange email (my gmail), iCloud (for contacts and calendars), my brightness set at about 75% and usually don't close out any of my multi tasking apps. With that being said after a full cycle charge last night, I am sittin at 85% battery with 1hr30min of soild wi-fi web browsing and 9 hours of standby. Is this about what to expect and how much better was the battery for the iPhone 4 and/or iOS 4? Thanks guys for any help!

I've been in to the Apple Shop twice - they believe my battery is fine, and Vodafone says my usage is fine. I use "some" notifications and "some" location services. Google Latitude being my biggest battery drain stays off now. I'd like to be able to use this iPhone 4S for the very reasons I bought it, GPS, Siri, Push email, News notifications. If that drains my battery in 6 hours, then WHY am I carrying this around? . . . has anyone seen my blackberry??
