Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.

    Here are my specs:

    • 32 GB iPhone 4 running iOS 5 (5.0 9A334)
    • AT&T user (Carrier AT&T 11.0)
    • Model: MC610LL
    • Modem firmware: 04.11.08

    Problem Summary:

My iPhone 4's battery life is consierably worse than it was when it was running iOS 4.x. It's going from 100% to <20% battery life in as few as 4 hours. I'm outside of the hardware warranty, but since the issue only started when I upgraded to iOS 5, I'm hoping it's only a software issue.

    Attempted Resolution Steps:

Here's what I've tried so far to isolate the problem, with no success.

    • Disabled Wi-Fi sync and left it disabled throughout the rest of the tests listed below. It had no impact on extending the life of the battery.
    • Disabling bluetooth -- had no disernable impact (fully charged battery hit the 20% mark at around 4:19 of running in standby)
    • Disabling Wi-Fi -- had no disernable impact (fully charged battery hit the 20% mark at around 4:27 of running in standby)
    • Disabling bluetooth and Wi-Fi -- had no disernable impact (fully charged battery hit the 20% mark at around 4:48 of running in standby)
    • Disabling location services -- had no disernable impact (fully charged battery hit the 20% mark at around 5:21 of running in standby)
    • Running the phone in airplane mode with Wi-Fi disabled -- (fully charged battery hit the 20% mark at around 5:32 of running in standby, though it's not very functional in this state so it's not a very viable solution, to squeeze out only an incremential increase in performance)
    • Restored the phone and then applied backup -- had no disernable impact (fully charged battery hit the 20% mark at around 4:03 of running in standby)
    • Restored the phone and reinstalled as if it was a new device -- manually added apps, content, etc. -- had not disernable impact on battery life, but took quite a while. I'm still sitting around 4:15 minutes before a fully-charged battery hits the 20% mark and it's only downhill from there.

If anyone from Apple or on the forums have any suggestions on next steps for troubleshooting, I'd love to know. As of now, I'm just wandering around with a dock connector cable and wall charger, hoping to find a power outlet wherever I go.

WHAT DID YOU DO IN THESE 4 HOURS :specs shows :6 h talk or web surfing

It seems, amongst me and my friends anyways - that if you ask Siri "whar is the time?" and he responds directly with the time then you have good battery, but if he responds with " I'm sorry, but I don't know the time in 11 heavens way" or some other random street you have never heard of then you have a pathetic battery life.

Deffinetely points towards a location bug to me.

Although if you ask him "what's the time in London?" he does respond direct :)

Is that really that bad? I guess it all depends on what kind of usage it has been, but with those numbers you are looking at close to 8hr30min of usage time...

I'm running a 32g iPhone 4S and for the first time have gone a whole day without charging anywhere. I've made No phone calls, four texts and 10 minutes of browsing. I'm down to 9% battery with Bluetooth and Wifi OFF. I took my phone out of the charger at 9:30am and it's just before 4pm. Is this normal?

My iPhone is "fine" for the most part, no 15% burn or anything you guys are reporting, what IS weird is that I'll leave it plugged in overnight (7+) hours and I"ll wake up and the percetange meter is stuck at 94-97%, NEVER 100%. This started happening recently.

I remember once I let it drain all the way to 4% then plugged it in overnight, the next morning it was 100%. I started playing a game with it still PLUGGED IN and when I was done playing, the percentage meter said 91% with the battery icon plugged in and fully charged. WEIRD?

    RELAX!

The Apple Technicians are no dummies and a fix will be issued soon.  Apple has taken us this far with such a amazing product that I seriously doubt they will leave us high and dry.

Focus yourselves on other things, preferably things that benefit mankind and our society.  I am a technician myself and usually ignore and toss out "stupid ranting" emails because they are of no benifit to anyone.

What I would recommend for everyone to do is learn to deal with the current situation by sitting tight and finding a simple solution for the moment, like buying another charger, either for your car or home, until the fix is released.

    Peace

Having the same problem here with my 4s. This is my first  iphone ever and I love the phone but we need a battery that can last. My 4s loses about forty to fifty percent in  4 hours, and that is with no talking and just taking a few photos of my daughter. I think I may for the first time ever need to buy a car charger just to ensure I will have power. With any luck someone or apple will figure it out soon!!!!

GUYS JUST REPORT TO APPLE (not changing your phone YET) they will notice and put a note to your record.

if everybody complains JUST here.........that will do not more pressure on appple.

Hi everyone, I'm a first time iphone user, bought my first iphone 4s on Friday in Germany. Didn't notice the battery issue at first because I was installing apps and using it all the time, and I taught that it is normal for battery to drain that fast. But now that I know that there is a problem I noticed when using phone to chat on msn, fb for example battery loses 1% every 4minutes exactly. When its on standby battery lasts longer. Anyone else notice this about 4minutes?

Oh my gosh. I have the same issue. I am hardly ever on it and the batter dwindles down so quickly! Has anyone found a fix for this? I have not contacted Apple yet, should I?

    Guys,

I think this should fix it, try it out:

The solution for now seems to be manually switching off the automatic time zone updates located at Settings -> Location Services -> scroll to bottom to System Services -> Setting Time Zone.

let me know if it had seemed to work.

search it on the web for other feedbacks.

YES! I had this problem until late last Night. Fix SAS to disable Time zone location under location services and restart phone.
