Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

"Focus yourselves on other things, preferably things that benefit mankind and our society"

...like not complaining and behaving as is this was an acceptable situation... yet when this happens to RIM you guys have to rant and when Steve used to show his hate of Google products and such that was all ok and that would be of great service to the society because Android shouldn't exist and Android users don't deserve to live? Imagine if Android didn't exist how many more insignificant post you'd find in this forum. Well, what goes around comes around and now it's in your face...

    lolll

You Apple users do think highly of yourselves with your double standards. I respect Apple tech for what it is... tech, and not a way of life or a religion... it's just that yesterday I promised myself to never buy another Apple product for the rest of my life. Because Apple stands for litigating its way through the industry, for closed source, ignorance of its user base (as in ignoring them as shown on this forum and as in utter ignorance of the users themselves) and condescending everything else on the market.

This is a lesson of humility for you all. You can't imagine how much this makes my day. Thank you Apple!

OK, looking at my situation specifically, the battery killer is Push on Exchange E-Mail. I reinstalled my exchange e-mail, but disabled Push and instead switched it to Fetch every 15 minutes. So far, while the downloading of all my contacts and e-mails ate up some battery life, for the past hour or two it has only lost 1% of battery life. Previously, it was losing close to 20% to 25% battery life per 90 minutes.

I'm pretty confident this is something Apple will fix (like the antenna issue with the last release, if I recall correctly), and hopefully sooner rather than later. Because disabling push on an exchange e-mail simply cannot be the answer; my original Droid handled that easily every day for almost 2 years without any battery issues like this...

I am also having severe battery drain issues. But aside from that (or maybe in addition) my usage is really messed up. I had my phone charged at 0900 this morning and after only 9 hours with no use aside from checking the time I am at 45% battery. The weird thing is my usage meters state that I have 7 hours and 27 minutes usage time and 9 hours and 5 minutes of stand by since last full charge, which does not make any sense as the total of that is about 7 and a half hours more than actual. Need a fix for this soon.

I have been using my iphone 4s for a couple of days now and as discussed the battery is way weaker than the iphone 4

I have everything off, location, wifi,bt,push, notifications and icloud, only siri and celular data are on, my standby drain is pretty normal, around 5-8% during night, a bit high but not a scandal (iphone4 was 2/3% at night 7/8hours)

What really bothers me is whit no calls, and just some sms received, and around 20/30 messages of exchanged messages in whatsapp i get a 20% drain in a couple hours, i really dont understand what is happening whit iphone4 loaded whit crap, 1 year whitout any updates since 4.1 i text a lot whit whatsapp, and for the same amount of messages i barely drain 5% in the iphone4

I am quite concerned about this phone at this stage

My phone is practicly clean and once i start to use it, it drains like crazy whit very light usage

My 3g signal is strong, had 2 battery cicles so far, maybe the battery hasnt reached its full potential, now going back to iphone4 till this issue is resolved

After a lot of testing for me the battery problem also only occurs when i use push notification with my work's exchange email (exchange 2003 if that is any help).

Comparison of iPhone 4s iOS 5.0 vs iPhone 4 iOS 5.0

I'm having the same problems as everyone else.

I did a comparison of battery life on a 4s vs a 4 - both with iOS 5.0 -- configured exactly the same -- notifications, iCloud mail, calendar, contacts, location services, etc. -- all of which are turned on.

I charged both phones to 100% and turned them off last night.  This morning I started both phones at the same time.  After 5 hours the 4s was at 83% and the 4 at 98%.  They were on the same table about 3 feet apart - with a very good 3G signal with WiFi tuned on.

I didn't actually use either phone - just let them sit idle and check battery levels every hour.  I found both the usage and the standby times were identical on the 4s after five hours, whereas the 4 had only a few minutes of usage and five hours of standby time showing.

I tried a number of the 'fixes' mentioned in these posts - none worked.  I expect Apple will issue a fix soon -- my guess is that they have located the problem and are testing a fix  now.

    Just my thoughts.

My 4S battery life went from awful to excellent after implmenting a couple fixes. I know these don't work for everyone, but the impact on my battery life has been dramatic. Currently:

    Battery Percentage: 57%

    Usage: 2h, 25 min

    Standby: 1 day, 4 hours

    I have:

    1. Reset the phone (appeared to have only a minor impact by itself)

    2. Drained battery and recharged to 100%

    3. Turned off "Setting Time Zone"

Prior to these adjustments, my phone would last no more than 8 hours under normal usage (e-mail, 1-2 brief calls)

    RELAX!

The Apple Technicians are no dummies and a fix will be issued soon.  Apple has taken us this far with such a amazing product that I seriously doubt they will leave us high and dry.

Focus yourselves on other things, preferably things that benefit mankind and our society.  I am a technician myself and usually ignore and toss out "stupid ranting" emails because they are of no benifit to anyone.

What I would recommend for everyone to do is learn to deal with the current situation by sitting tight and finding a simple solution for the moment, like buying another charger, either for your car or home, until the fix is released.

    Peace

I think you posted 4-5 times the same message Wolfie... what a brainwash...

When you start telling people how and what to think, that's when they should know something is wrong with that corporate culture. Isn't thinking different a moto? A long time ago I worked in tech support, and one of the things you learn is that you have to acknowledge the clients' issues. The client is right, he paid for his tech, he has expectations... he doesn't need to be told that he should focus on something else and be constructive in life, he wants solutions and he's entitled to that. Either marketing didn't manage expectations properly, or something, like a technical issue, is preventing the tech from being on par with the said expectations.

In any case, I can't believe people stand for someone telling them how to think and on what to focus. Only on Apple forums have I witnessed such a condescending attitude.

I couldn't agree more Wolfe! It's one thing to report the problem so that Apple can work on patching it, however the venemous anger being expressed in some of these posts is neither productive or appropriate. People need to take a few steps back and see the "big picture" of life! In the grand scheme of things, whether or not you have to recharge your phone during the day is not a MAJOR issue! Annoying? Yes. Is it the way the phone should work? Clearly it is not! But hundreds of users have reported this under a number of different configuration scenarios.

It is clear that Apple is well aware that there is a problem and I fully expect that they will stand behind their product with a fix in the not too distant future. They are an exceptional company that produces exceptional products and I would expect nothing less of the 4s at the "end of the day".

Take a few deep breaths, have a nice beverage, and relax. While an iPhone is very cool, it is still JUST A PHONE! You will survive this! And in the rare case that you are someone who thinks this is still ridiculously unacceptable and you can not tolerate it, you probably have a little deeper issue going on than just your battery not performing as advertised.

Hang in there everyone. Soon this will pass and we will all be singing the praises of our phones again!

Quite the contrary people, stand up for what you paid for. Sure Apple will fix this, they have some of the greatest engineers in the world. But it's appropriately frustrating to pay a high price for such a device and not being able to use it in a normal way. Don't let those 2 condescending sheep herder silence you down.

I mean, the guy just told you to "drink a nice beverage"... seriously. What arrogance. I've read the post for the last 2-3 days, and there is no "venemous anger" at all... only basically me lashing a little bit, but I'm being polite. Some people are annoyed and begging for Apple to find a fix, they want to help. Not only those 2 herders would have you focus on a more "constructing life", worst they would try to make you feel guilty at expressing your exasperation. For venemous anger, look more at Steve's past comments on Android. Let's be real here.

The battery design/drain  is faulty, noticed it right off a quick drain and also inordinate heat off the back,,may be the GPS,,,an oversight like this this isent up to APPLE.
