Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

THIS not reporting a 100% indidator also occurs on all Macbook for yrs. It is how the sensor calclates the reported %. As with MB the charging circuit won't engage until there has been a 4-6% drain from  full cell.

    The Lipo Is 100% charged.

It's depressing to add my name to the chorus, but it's also depressing to experience this with the new phone.  I have a 3 year old 3G and it still has > 95% over several days of light wifi use (since it is no longer my primary phone).  The new 4S hasn't finished one day yet of light use over 20%, god forbid I forget my charger for a weekend trip.

I'm still well within my 14 day return window, so fingers crossed there's a solution or I"ll go back to circa 2008.

"And in the rare case that you are someone who thinks this is still ridiculously unacceptable and you can not tolerate it, you probably have a little deeper issue going on than just your battery not performing as advertised."

This is so wrong. You should apologize for saying something like that. In the real world, you would be fired on the spot for saying something like that to a paying customer. The whole point of a mobile device is that it is mobile and you can make through the day with it without recharging.

    That mirrors my experience, exactly.

I find the 4S battery life to be just slightly worse, and configuring settings does not help much.  The 4S just seems to take more juice than the 4...and that's about it.

This is *NOT* a deal breaker for me, not at all.

It's within the life with which I can deal.  Maybe in the future with their adaptation of the Cortex A7, Apple will find a way to have high powered, efficient multi-core, high efficiency memory devices that last longer without needing a charge.

Regardless, the iPhone 4S is still the best thing going at the moment, IMHO.

Same battery life problem. I did turn off the the weather notification, and whatever notifications have on, and it helped my battery life a little. However, I've been checking it every hour and still drain 3 to 4 %. What's going on? I'm not even use it often and battery keeps draining. Apple has to do something. I love Apple, I upgrade my phone, and paid a full price every year they release a new one. So, please do something.

So following the advice of others on this thread I restored my iPhone 4s as a new phone rather than from the backup of my iPhone 4 and it worked! Battery life is now what it should be, at least comparable to my iPhone 4.  And because my contacts, events, and reminders were all backed up on iCloud they showed right back up when I logged in. As were the pictures on my photo stream.

So it does appear there is a solution, at least for some of us!

Do not restore your new 4s from a 4 backup. Restore it as a new phone!

So far, this appears to be holding for me. Pushing 48 hours and I am unable to replicate the significant battery loss I had been experiencing.

I charged my 4s last night, and was down to 65% in 90 minutes despite not using the phone for anything. No usage at all.  It stayed around 50% for a few hours and then nosedived to 15%. I am going to the Apple Store tomorrow.

Very simple friend. As people here will tell you, you can simply turn your smartphone into the most expensive clock you'll ever buy by restoring to a new phone and bringing nothing from your Iphone4 setup, turning off notifications, bluetooth, location services, wifi, 3G, dropping Exchange, and stopping to use any app whatsoever, disabling Ping and Siri...

Then maybe when you set the alarm, you'll get a chance to hear the buzzer before the battery dies...

    Brillant!

Your smartass comments aside, I wiped out my phone - starting from scratch - and now have EVERYTHING I want enabled. No compromises whatsoever.

Say something constructive or move along.

Have the same issue with my iPhone 4S. Really hope that Apple's answer will be less arrogant than last time (antennagate)! In 2011, it's really unacceptable to put such devices on the market and claim to be the "best iPhone so far"...

    Please Cupertino, do something!

But I just did. I asked for some respect of the user base and paying customers. I can't believe I did that as aside from having a Touch, I no longer use the Iphone for my smartphone needs.

Mind you as long as I respect the terms of service of the community forum, I'm not bound by any authority... Apple employees just know better than to debate with someone like me here, they just focus on finding a solution for you guys. Your level 4 status means nothing to me. Help your fellow users and you move on. Thank you.

perhaps your battery drain can be attributed to your phone trying to decipher your awful grammer. I had to read your post three times be before I could understand what you were talking about, and I'm college educated, imagine the stress you're putting on your phone just TYPING like that . . .

After a lot of testing for me the battery problem also only occurs when i use push notification with my work's exchange email (exchange 2003 if that is any help).

Same thing with me. We also use Exchange 2003 for Small Business Server right now.

IS ANYONE TURNING OFF THE OPEN APP"S ???

All will stay open in the background permenentlly till you close them. THIS IS A BIG DRAIN !

You don't need wifi on if you are in a moble only environment. Turn it off..

I do this and get only a 10-12% drain for the day (ave 89%) when I get home.

Only need to really put on a charge every 2 days.

Initial drain was high when I got mine on LIVE day. But like I posted before, you needed to do at least 1 full drain to dead then charge to full cycle to calibrate any new LIPO.

    Very Happy with Full performance.
