Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I did the full 0-100% recharge, went to bed at 10 last night, woke up at 6 to a 99% battery with everything mostly turned to on, except time zone, and a few other items.

However, since getting to work at 7, it is now 1215, battery has dropped 14% to 85% with no phone calls, surfing, emails and two text messages sent/received?

    8 hours... loss of 1% bewteen 10P & 6A with no usage

    6 hours....loss of 14% between 6A & 12P with virtually no usage

*On a side note, it also appears that my emails are fetched routinely even though I have the fetch set at longer intervals.

I have just tried turning off diagnotic reporting, will advise on what that is showing.

Disabled Time Zones and my battery life is still doing quite bad. I make a small, 10 minute call and it drops by nearly 8-10%. 3G is nearly always disabled. I even bought a external battery case and my iPhone will chew threw the battery + that case in less than 1.5 days.

I normally use my phone for work, so this is unacceptable! I also use it when out (so some 3g or wifi, but only one active at a time). I disable all iCloud things besides contacts.

Out of curiosity, does your usage time continue to increase (in pace with standby time) even when your phone appears to be in power saving mode?

I'm having the same problems and still nothing is working. I'm testing turning off the time zone function I've read about now to see if it helps any. I am losing about 15% an hour and thats only turning on the screen briefly to check the percentage with almost everything turned off...

Other people are having luck too, with this,

    turn off SETTING TIME ZONE!!!

in settings > location services > scroll to bottom to system services > turn off setting time zone

other people saying it works too,   https://discussions.apple.com/message/16579377#16579377

i did a complete restore of my 4S. Wiped all the data and settings. Then charged the phone to 100%. Everything is off no location services, no mail accounts or anything.

Still my phone dropped to 50% in 8 hours of standby and 30 min of usage. There is something inherently wrong with the 4S battery.

Just as an update to yesterday when I restored my phone as new and then did a full charge.

I woke up this morning to 100% charge, with 8 hours of standby time on the clock. I noticed I forgot I had turned airplane mode on, with wireless turned on. I turned airplane mode off, and within 18 minutes my phone was down to 95%. I can only conclude that it is 3G that is draining the battery. I have everything else off, no push, no notification center, no location services, no siri. Basically everything that can be turned off I had turned off. I live in a low coverage 3G area so I only get between 2 and 3 bars, I don't know if that is worth mentioning but the more information the better I suppose.

Not sure I'm totally understanding your question but I will say that my phone is now at 83% since full recharge last night at 10P.

I have used the phone <5 minutes between 7A & 1250P and it says I have 61(1hour & 1 minutes) of usage since my last recharge.

This is really odd - but I just want to record the fact that some of us are having no issues with this. I have standard iphone 4 - i havent turned anything on or off as far as i know and yet my battery life is fine - actually thats not quite true - I have limited the icloud to syncing my contacts and emails etc - but I turned off full document and photo sync - that might be part of the problem as syncing large amounts of data may require power...

My iphone 4 is having no issues, but my iphone 4S is suffering.

I blame the IOS5 software and how it operates the new dual antenna as one of the problems. I first noticed the issue when my 4S lost all signal in an area where my iphone 4 had full signal. After that my battery dropped like underwear on prom night.

Apple changed my phone with new one after i complained about the battery problem. ~15% / hour in standby. The problem did not go away even after they changed my phone. Any suggestion to fix the battery problem?

I have 3 hours and 45 minutes of usage and my phone's battery is down to 30%. Location services off, icloud account deleted, mail fetch featured turned off, notifications are off... No phone calls have been made. This is terrible! Im returning this phone! How frustrating! Why should we be doing all the troubleshooting? Where are the apple developers?

I keep reading bits and pieces of this discussion mainly because there are just to many posts in here.  So if I happened to repeat something somebody else has said, I apologize.

I use the **** out of my phone and I absolutely love it!  When I'm using it on wifi or playing games the battery life is great!  And actually when it's on 3G it's not bad either.  Also during these times the frame of the phone is kinda warm, I would more say because of the body heat from my hands.  My settings previous to this weekend where kinda less than normal (few notifications, location services, and iCloud).  I used the mapping app on 3g and noticed my frame was very warm within seconds.  Not out of the realm of being possibly normal, I would think.  After that I shut off everything.  I signed out of iCloud, manually shut off all of my locations, then I shut off the main location tab.  I also went through and manually shut off all of the notifications for all of the apps I have on my phone except for phone and messages.  So this weekend my battery performed very well!   I used apps on 3G and wifi fairly heavily, played games, manually exit out of apps, then restart them when I need them,  surfed the Internet, and took a ton of pics and videos (I've got a new niece). And it's been terrific.  However, this morning is where it went drastically down.  The only difference that I noticed was the fact that my phone kept flip flopping between "E" and 3G.  I was at my kids school and I always have had horrible times there with anything on my phone(s).  An iPhone 3G, blackberry, and an LG Quantum.  Also another spot recently I noticed extreme drops in battery life was at a work location.  I continually receive "no service".  With my 3G though, it never decreased the battery life like this.  But I have not been at that location with everything set to off, to try to compare the life of the battery life.

My battery life improved immensely when I went back to Ireland (live in London) to visit family. Over a 9 hour period only 7% battery life was consumed. Am guessing this is because I had data roaming switched off. So if you can live without everything you bought an iPhone for then it's got a great battery life!

@thirufromindia, have tried the following steps? Multiple people have said it worked for them, and the fix only takes about 5 minutes:

Currently my iPhone 4S is at 73% after 34 1/2 hours (2:26 Usage, 1 Day, 8 Hours Standby).
