Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I think the key is to "Occupy Apple" until this is fixed.  Make appointments with the Genius Bar and demand a fix.  If enough people do this, Apple will get the message.

bluetooth seeks devices periodically and is active as per settings. it is not an indication that bluetooth is not active because it does not show up on the status bar; it is running in the background hence heavy consumption on power.

You guys are talking about plus or minus 200 hours and I am talking about getting 7-8 hours from a full charge to dead mostly in standby mode.  The composite below is my phone sitting idle for 2 hours.  This is my second 4s and they are both from clean restores vs restore from backup.  This is definitely a problem.

My battery was lasting about 30 hours. Without any usage.

I read all the posts and disabled everything. Very little improvement.

I read that you should kill the battery completely and then charge it while it is powered off. Somebody else told him it was nonsense because of new battery technology not needing it etc.

I did the battery thing and now my iPhone appears to be okay now. 1 hour, 14 mins usage, 1 day, 4 hours standby and my battery is at 76%. I still have alot of stuff turned off. BUT Siri, mail, iCloud and WiFi are all on.

My buddy upgraded to IOS  5 on his iPhone 4 and has had no change of battery life since upgrading. So I assume this would rule out the new IOS as the problem.

I would like to know how many people are having battery issues have tried the battery thing.

This would be very counter-productive.  Finding and fixing bugs in complicated software systems isn't something you 'just do', and can take a lot of time and work.  Being angry that they don't just yank a fix out of thin air is unreasonable.

It's safe to say Apple is already aware of the problem - give them time, and post those things you think might be helpful to helping them identify the source of the issues.

I have now had my phone on for 4 hrs.  It has 50% left.  I have not used the phone that much and have turned almost everything off.  Wow this is horrible.....

I let my phone fully drain last night and fully charge this morning before leaving. I unplugged at 1:00, used it lightly if at all for two hours, one 30 minute call, and now at 4:30 it is at 49%!!!!

Just turned off bluetooth (which I have never used!) hope that helps!

If not, I will be asking for a refund.

continuing airplane mode, my phone only dropped by 1% in 2 hours.. it saddens me that i cant make or receive calls...

a shut down of only the location tracker, push, wifi, and bluetooth did not stop the power hemmoraging..

It's time for Apple to bundle the "Gbrainy" set of games with every device they sell because I have never seen such an inept, disorganized and clueless bunch of users as the Apple user base. I don't blame the users for that, I blame Apple for making them so ignorant and incompetent. That's what happens when you don't foster curiosity in your users and substitute that by the following of a charismatic leader and sheep-like behavior. Plus they have incredibly low expectations and demands. Finally some don't even have self-respect as I've seen people literally "begging" for a solution in the forum. Soon they'll be praying. In my life I've had to deal with supporting users coming from the typewriter era who couldn't even find the power switch to their computer yet they were very bright people, and as ignorant as they were of the IT world, they still had abilities to observe, report things in a structured way, and analyze situations and could elaborate solutions based on deduction and inference.

One thing Apple should have done here is enforce posting to this thread through a "form" i.e. no free text posting until a person fills a form with critical questions i.e. restore method, time zone, city, carrier, type of mail. So at least they could use the info in this thread and add it to the database where they collect info from their profiling tools. As it stands this forum is entirely useless for Apple and anyone else. It belong to the "Support Nightmare Series vol X". It is purely a psychological venting valve as it stands.

Another thing is that Apple should have elected an employee to add a post that supersedes the initial one where "suggestions" would be consolidated by geographic location/carrier... so right away say a "verizon" user from western US could try to implement a solution that has been proven to somehow work by peers having a similar profile. So that would be profile based stickies if you want, whatever it's called.

Finally you would expect users to team out together to make some deductions i.e. "I have 3 friends with a 4S and we all live in the same city and use 2 different carriers and we noticed that the draining issue is greater with this carrier under similar usage etc yet when we went hiking and there was some problematic coverage spots, we noticed such and such". But nah, all you have is a bunch of disjointed users competing for THE contribution that will solve it all, proving by the same token that they haven't read 2 pages back where another person posted the same solution and others confirmed it wasn't working for them.

You would expect one if not the greatest tech company in the world to have implemented such simple things as what I just suggested. This will occupy my thoughts long after the battery issue is solved i.e. how leveling things out in terms of interface and way of thinking hampers support and ability to cope with problems and think outside of the box... which in turn makes you wonder how those same inept users will cope with the real important issues in their lives, emotional distress, and other important decisions which will have impacts on others worldwide. Scary. Imagine for one moment Apple had been the main utility providing electricity...

    Good luck nevertheless.

Another thing I notice is that my standby and usage are almost always identical.  This means something is constantly using the processor (and yes I have gone in an shut down all apps).  The only time the times start to separate is when I put it in airplane mode.

Periodically seeking devices is a very low power process, kind of like a cell phone waiting to receive a call.  Bluetooth uses almost no power when it's not actually being used, even if it's paired with a device.  Activly being used is what I mean by "active", and this is what it means when you see the BT indicator in the status bar.  Is it possible that BT is adding to the power issues?  Sure.  But it's unlikely.  It's more likey that your reset procedure killed whatever rogue location services process or sync process that was draining the battery...

Good evening, I've got the same problem with my new iPhone 4S bought 3 days ago. The battery ran down about 7-10% per hour although I did nothing with it. What could I do for increase my battery life? Thanks for help.
