Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Kinsorder, do you mean "usage" as in the total amount of time spent off the charger? or 11/12 hours of straight wifi, music, internet, mail, apps, etc.? There's a big difference between "usage" and "standby", I hope everyone  realizes this as they post numbers and talk about their personal experience it helps to compare people's stats.

I'm also experiencing a similar battery life issue. My phone usually drops to about 30% by mid day even with minimal usage. It seems pretty atypical for an Apple device.

First ever Apple phone product. iPhone 4S, brand new out of the box, on a full charge, without making a single phone call or doing any serious data, got about 16 hours of standby time. For a product that claims to have 200 hours standby, something is SERIOUSLY wrong with this phone.

Called Apple support and they acted like they've never heard of the problem, like I'm making it up.

Maybe this helps. I bought my iPhone 4s 32 gig about 1 week ago and I did not restore from my previous phone/files. Just got my contacts from the iCloud. I haven't altered any settings, all factory . For example today I had my phone charged 100% at 8am and right now it's about 10:30pm and I still have 67 percent. On a day I use it heavy I'm getting 45 % or so towards my end of day which is 5,6pm. I don't see what the problem is for everyone . My battery appears to be ok.

But I did notice someone I work with started to experience big big drops in battery and for example , by 11am he had like 50% and by 1pm he was at 20 and so on. He had put his exchange email from work and it appears that the server would constantly check form new email and was draining the battery . Once he removed the email account , the battery was back to normal working condition without charge throughout the day.  In his case , this fixed the problem. Check to see if you have added a google account or work exchange email . These services might be draining your battery .

    Hope this helps a bit.

I tend to drop 7-10 percent per hour.  Yesterday I blew through 5% when I pulled it the charger, set it on the counter and then grabbed it 20 minutes later to go out. 5% no use and 20 minutes. I've turned off push email. Location services for just about everything and I'm chewing through battery whether I'm on the phone or not. Tonight I got a new phenomenon. I was taking a picture with 34% left and the phone died and gave me the no battery screen. I did a soft reset and got it back online. It's super frustrating that the reasons for having this great phone are all the features I have turned off and i still can't get through the day without this thing dying.

How about some word from apple about this. First antennagate now batterygate.

Exchange might be draining my battery? Why would it drain my battery? What's the point of having an iPhone if I can't use it to CHECK MY EMAIL?

That's like if I told you my brand new car was having engine problems, and you asked me "well have you been driving it?"

I have had the same issues with short battery life since day 1, Friday October 14. I have reported to Verizon on 3 different occasions.

In addition, I am having intermitent problems with the ear piece not responding when I make a call. from time to time, I have to click on the speaker icon before I can receive the call. Most annoying experience of a smartphone.

Verizon is in the process of replacing the phone.

this is exactly how I feel ,I spent $839 to support Apple Inc

for buying this phone and now I have to stop using full

feature to not drain the battery. if Steve job is still alive , we

will already have a solution . whoever taken his position

is not doing a good job

I, too, have had terrible battery life with the 4S.  This morning, I experienced a very similar problem to Busmanx.  I was listening to music in the car when the Music app became unresponsive.  The battery meter said something like 35%.  The Settings app wouldn't work.  The phone would not power down.  Finally, I held the Home and Sleep button until... the battery meter showed up indicating the battery was completely gone and needed to be charged.

What gives?  It's been two weeks; we need some answers soon!!!

I've tried several of the suggestions: restored contacts from iCloud, turned off Time Zone Check, Location Based iAds, all but essential Notifications, I've even disabled Location services for Safari.  Even if one of these ends up 'fixing' it, how lame is that?  I mean, to have to turn all that stuff off just to make the phone usable for a day -- not cool.

Interestingly, I had no idea about that iAd Location setting -- I'll be keeping that off, even after this is resolved!!  (I'm sure the iAd account managers are thrilled about that!)

So I'm back with an update.  In my last post, I did a complete restore from new and that seemed to work, for a day until my next charge cycle then the fast discharge came back.  I tried the other peoples suggestions and nothing worked up until I tried someone commenting on turning on "Settings>Locations Services>System Services> Status bar Icon> ON" after enabling this, I am able to see if any location services are running in the background even though all apps have been closed.  Since then, I have had 2 full charge/discharge cycles.  My usage has increased and I now get

    Usage Time = 5 Hours

    Standby Time = 22 hours

    Battery remaining = 40%

Lets hope this does the trick and stays steady.  What I have noticed when my battery was being drained was the standby time and usage time matched exactly from the moment I took it off the charger.  Now it all reads normal.

I am getting about 6 hours in my iphine 4s. Went to genious bar yesterday's. They had me turn off location services, wifi and brightness. Location services being inept the keys to why I bought this as my first iphine.  Anyway after that charged it to 100. Got 6 hours... Hat with NO music, NO games " NO surfing.  Just texting emeails and 2 hours of gal time. Called tech support got to a senior advisor who told me hae has received no battery callls except min. I literally can't get through a day with just simple phones , emailing and texting.  My finds with iPhones insist they can go u it'll they r home at night and the recharge for the whole next day.

Ae they going to admit this and make a fix? Otherwise I'm going back to my blacskberry. Wich lasted about 14 hours.

If you can't travel and lose service what the pint.

It even went from 100 percent to 65 without me touching it while i was asleep! Imagine getting on a pane turning your pine off and you can't call your ride when you land. Or carrying round a charger for a five hour day. Ridiculous" and again this is with location services off, no games,no surfing, not listening to music. And also by the way I have 2 photos  total. No facbook, no twitter and no videos !!! This bites""""
