Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I deleted all of my email accounts and reinstalled gmail as an exchange account. I went from losing 1% every 6 minutes to over 4 hours of usage and 18 hrs of standay using 75% of battery. I also turned of the time zone setting, but didn't see any changes, until I deleted and reinstalled email accounts. Safari also seems to run faster. No hang ups, waiting for page to load.

I've noticed that it seems to drain quickest when using (or having recently used) location services on native Apple Apps like Reminders and Siri. Third-party apps like Facebook and Twitter don't seem to be a problem.

I turned Siri's location services off yesterday and noticed a HUGE improvement. Stupidly, I tried to use a location based reminder today and the battery dropped 7% inside 10 mins even on standby, so I've just turned that off too.

PLEASE HURRY UP AND DO SOMETHING, APPLE. If I have to keep turning features off at this rate, all I'll have, by Friday, is a very expensive pocketwatch!

I have the new Iphone 4S - the battery life is absolutely terrible. I have been lucky to have every single Iphone ansd this is by far the worst!! Does not even last a day! and please note this is not even using the phone all day everyday - does this mean that you can not go out for the day without a charger! - That is not acceptable!!!!!!! Apple - recall or replace or improve urgently!!!!!!!!

I charged my phone from 0 and had switched it off while charging. I switched it back on about an hour ago and checked my email. It has been lying next to me since then, so I now wanted to see if all the changes I made yesterday have had an impact on the battery life. It has dropped 2% after approx. one hour.

A bit too early to say if that is an improvement or not, but what is weird:

The Usage shows as follows: 10 Hours 15 Minutes and Standby of 16 Hours 33 Minutes!

Now I know for sure that the phone was switched off and fully charged before I switched it on this morning (1 hour ago).

Could it be that Apple is remotely working on phones trying to make us believe the battery life is better than it actually is?

Well thats it. I've had enough trying to tinker with settings to get this thing to work. I'm going back to the long suffering iPhone 4.

Right now I would happily sacrifice Siri by smashing her with angry birds upon a digital altar to the gods of lithium battery longevity.

So I'm stepping away. Taking a breather and coming back later.

I own a 4S for 4 days now. I went to bed at 10pm with >80% battery, set the alarm for 8am next day....

...next day, phone dead, no alarm. great start. the replacement phone has a different serial number range (DNP...). The battery life to me is really disappointing:

    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/165/16592692-1.png

Light usage only. Surfing the web and mail via WiFi mostly. ALL location services switched off.

Is there any good tool available that will show you the cpu usage PER PROCESS? I only found apps for overal cpu load.

No idea how apple picks the users to help them analyse the issue, but i volunteer.

    Hi everyone,

I've bought my 4s 2 days ago, in Italy. battery life is tremendous!!

in "stand by" mode, I went sleeping this night with full charged phone.

    I'd disabled

    - Diagnostic & usage

    - Location-based iAds

    - setting time zone

This morning te battery was 29% charged. Amazing!!!

Same here, iPhone 4S 32 GB, reduced location services to a minimum, tried all fixes like disabling time zone detection, deleting settings, resetting, restoring and stuff. and using just one email account with push. Checking mails and reading rss feeds in the morning costs me 10% of my battery charge within about 15 minutes. Each evening the battery is at 10-5%, even if i charge it in the car while driving home for 20 mins.

the battery life of my iphone 4 was indeed much better. the really unfunny thing is that you always have a bad feeling when using your iphone, because you're never sure if the slightest action will cost you too much energy.

Using my iPhone 4S only when necessary is not an option.

plus: since iOS5 i see app crashes on a daily basis, especially Mail or AppStore. A rebbot a day is something I have not been used to.

My iphone 4s is also behaving badly

    • In standby it drops by up to 5% per hour
    • Sometimes it doesnt charge to 100% (stops at between 93-96%)
    • Sometimes it dies when it still has up to 8% battery showing as remaining
    • Sometimes my Usage and Standby clock up at the same rate indicating that something is permanantly in use

    Things Ive tried

    • Full restore (from back up)
    • Switched off the time zone option
    • switched off icloud

No change - Like others have said, if I switch off much else I may as well not have an iPhone.

Try turning off location service and Push retrieval for mails.

This seems to fix things for the moment.

Of course apple needs to patch this later on.

ok guys here wht i did...

the problem isnt the location service at all... the mail services are also sucking the energy in our batteries..

this morning i was assisted by an apple engineer.. i called the support service.. they told me to restore my 4s but not from ma old i4's backup.. the phone "hates the old back up " so wht i did is restoring it adding my mail accounts and disabling location service... i gt a big improve from the battery... lets see if it remains like this.. (srry 4 my bad english.. im not good with it)..

    Hi,

I just got a iphone 4s, I'm wasnt an Apple user previously, so i've noticed many of you have said one of the key problems is restoring your old phone to the new one so that issue doesnt apply to me.

I've turned off alot of the settings you guys have mentioned, closed running apps when not in use. I havent even setup an Email account on the phone and still I'm only getting about 8 hours of batt life with limited msging and talktime and app time.

Its really hard to make it thru the day. Hope Apple can do something about this.

    Cheers.

Wi-Fi sync to iTunes turned out to be the cause of battery drain on my iPhone 4S.

Tried every suggested solution, turning of location services etc, until I gave up yesterday and tried resetting the iPhone settings (not restoring) and the battery usage became normal. This morning I turned on Wi-Fi sync to iTunes and went for breakfast with a fully charged phone. After 15-20 minutes the battery was down to 98 % and I hadn't even touched it.

I turned off Wi-Fi sync, recharged the phone as soon as I got to work and now the phone has been claiming 100 % for over an hour. I've been reading a few mails during that time, so it hans't been idling all that time.
