Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Right, the 3g is very bad.

So charging is terrible,98% at 8 hours. When i reconnect it wil to 100%. Strange.

Consumption is about 70% in a day, only on 3g its 70% in 6 hours.

I miss the button to use 3g, so we can test it when its off.

    It's Pro.

    You need the 'Maintain' option.

Went to the Apple store and they wanted to do:

    IPhone 4S (AT&T)

Got the new phone the first day and restored from my Iphone 4 backup

Went to the Apple store and........

    1) Full Restore - Did that due to issues with data corruption from the retore from Iphone 4 to Iphone 4S

After the full Restore we did a manual rebuild of my configuration. This option did not retore from backup

This made no difference for me (Battery would drop about 20% per hour) - Dead in 5 hours

    2) Phone Replaced - I went back to the Apple store and they swapped out the phone

        This made no difference.

This time I tried the ICould restore from backup

It appears data corruption from old backups is a problem.

    3) I started turning things off on the Iphone 4S (Never had to do this on any other IPhone). I have used every Iphone made!

Things I turned off (Everything new with the 4S)

The reason I started here was I was a beta IOS 5 user and I never had a battery issue trying all seven beats of IOS 5.

    1) Turned off SIRI

    2) Turned off ICLOUD BACKUP (and my phone was stuck in the Still Restoring IPhone mode)

    3) Turned off Location Services

    4) Disabled Push on email (First time ever!)

This has fixed the consistant draining of my battery. It appears we have a few defects or things that are pulling on the battery. I know that Apple is really good at managaing the battery usage. This is something they do with every update to the IOS. I am sure the initial release of a major IOS version has a few things that need to be tweaked. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

    Maybe this will help!

I've had my 4S for a couple of weeks now and I too have the same battery issue.  I've tried many of the fixes reported (notification settings, location services, etc.) yet my phone still loses significant charge throughout the day when it's sitting there idle.

Hopefully, Apple's engineers will get to the bottom of this and be able to address it via a software fix.  Until then, I keep my charger close at hand.

How much does anyone think the battery life is going to improve following a software fix ?, obviously we hope they will fix the 20% per hour problem, but will we be stuck with 2% per hour ?, thats still worse than i consider acceceptable and way way worse that the iphone 4 i had previously !

Same issue with mine, drains in standby during the day, leavesme wondering where all the charge went.  Have all power settings to min so thought it was defective battery - apparently not...

I had it fixed for a little while yesterday when I turned exchange sync off for my calendar (I was already on hourly pull instead of push).

I did a full restore last night to deal with a syncing issue I was having, so I thought I might be able to turn my calendar back on (since it is very important to me).

This morning I lost 10% of battery in 47 min of standby time, and 43min of "usage" - the phone was in my pocket the entire time.  One thing I do notice is that when notifications pop up there is a real problem.  Particularly calendar notifications.  The screen flickers between two different ways of displaying the time (e.g., "8:00 am" and "in 2 min") very rapidly.  The phone is also physically hot to the touch.  In my case turning calendar notifications off seems to slow this drain somewhat (at least my phone is cooler to touch now!).

The crazy thing is I had the phone for two weeks and no problems, and now it seems to be falling apart.

There's a glitch in the IOS5 firmware that has a cascade effect.

Something snags in the system, and then its downhill from there onward.

Any of these could be either cause or effect... who knows?

    - Loss of network signal

    - failure to capture email through push

    - Location services staying on in background

    - constant polling of calender

Just to get my two cents in since Apple should hear from EVERYONE with this problem. I have tried all of the fixes, outside of staying in Airplane mode - including the one reported with Time Zone setting. I'd say 10-20% drain is the norm, and it appears to be worse as it gets down past 60% of battery life. I set email to Fetch only, location, etc.

But as anyone who has an iPhone knows, without these things the phone is basically a brick.

I have been an iPhone user since the beginning and this is the worse battery life BY FAR of any of the 4...

I feel the same way as everyone about the battery life in this phone.  There are two things that have bothered me about being an Apple customer: 1) When I have had battery issues in the past, I am told to disable a variety of services that make an iPhone an iPhone.  I just wrapped up my use of the 4 and almost NEVER had it set to 3G because of its drain on the battery; and 2) as a lifelong public relations professional, Apple is always mum on everything.  I understand that they may not want a number of their people out there making promises about what they plan to do or what the problem may be, but they acknowledge NOTHING, whether its product introductions, problems, etc.  More and more, I'm feeling not like a dependable customer for every move the company makes, but part of some R&D effort.  The 4 was plagued with antenna, bluetooth, etc. issues and it was only more frustrating to get anyone to tell the truth.

Agreed...I get worse battery life than my 3GS.  Can't even make it through a day without recharging and I'm hardly using it that much.
