Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Carole, you are so correct.  I cannot believe how many people are willing to turn off features on a top-of-the-line phone that they paid good money for. Of course, based on the number of replies in this thread there are also a lot of people that feel they are also being duped.

I didn't buy my iPhone 4S to make it a dumb phone.  I have owned smartphones since before most people even knew what a smartphone was. Dating back to the early Palm phones.  This is the worst battery life phone I have ever owned. I never had to turn off features on my other smartphones just to get enough battery life to make it through one day. I didn't even make it half a day yesterday. Even my 2 year old Windows based phone had better battery life. I really wish I did not break my iPhone 4. It was much better with regards to battery life.

I hope a better solution is in the works. Turning off basic features is NOT a solution, only a bandaid.

I disabled the system location services, turned off wifi sync (w/ the sync cable), and turned off calendar notifications. Battery life seems to have improved greatly.

I posted this separately, but it should probably be here.

I have an iphone 4s on Sprint.  My battery life is bad if I use any services at all, not just the reported time setting location service.

I have registered this phone in something that Sprint calls the Family Locator.   I live in a hilly, rural neighborhood with just one accessible Sprint tower (and no other cell phone reception at all).

When I query the location of my Sprint iphone 4s, the accuracy is 1.4 miles.  Horrible!    When I query the location of my husband's Sprint phone, a basic non-smart Sanyo clamshell, in the same room, the accuracy is 57 yards.   So, there must be something very weak in the response of the iphone4s to an external query.  Extra resistance in the antenna, maybe?   Or is the older non-smart phone a different frequency that can sense the weak signal from other towers (for location purposes) from farther away?

I find that I'm charging my phone everyday and I don't even use my phone that often. I barely do anything with it and the battery seems to be draining abnormally fast. I tried draining the battery all the way and charging it to the  max, but it had little benefits. I turned off wifi + bluetooth and I even tried airplane mode just to see how fast it'll drain and I still notice the battery draining quicker than it should...FYI

Must be software. About a week ago, My i4 laid on my nightstand, unplugged, at 35% charged. Went to 2% in the AM. It was not used. My i4 battery was a great improvement over my i3gs. Then I recently upgraded to IOS5. It only happened once. Must be software.

My 4S drains its battery like crazy: With WiFi, all location services, and auto time-zone update off, battery dropped by 8% in 30 minutes. It won't survive the day without a re-charge over lunch time. Will be testing other combinations and post here. I am considering: Email push on/off, Bluetooth on/off, and lower brightness until Apple comes out with a fix for this thing.

Mine is draining SO fast! My phone screen was off, and it was at 95% before bed... I woke up this morning to my battery being 25%! This is absolutely rediculous. I have already disabled the system location services, just did another Network Settings reset, and I'll be disabling Push completely.

    Hello People,

I followed all advice in this topic: first I make an iTunes reset and a Setting Reset, next I disabled everything.

(I only used cellular data, location, or wi-fi when I needed, but no notification, icloud or push at all).

I used the iPhone for calls, message, internet research, camera and other application. I did only two recharge cycles (each of 4.30 hours). I noticed that the main problem for me is the 3G data. When 3G is on, the battery drain more and more faster.

    Result:

    Battery Left: 2%

    Usage: 8 hours

    Stand-by: 1 day and 4 hours

I think it's the OS. I upgraded my 3GS yesterday and today the battery life was awful. 50% at noon when normally I only charge every other day.

Mine does dran fairly quickly.   I compared it to my wife Iphone 4.  I would suggest Apple to investigate hope that they would find a solution ASAP.

Yep, I posted earlier. Mine does same thing, tries to hang onto external weak 3G signal, will switch intermittently between weak 3G and inside Edge network. I never had this problem before because when I entered the office, I would switch off 3G network, but that's no longer possible on the 4S. Hope that is just software limitation and not hardware.

I just wanted to add that I am also having fast battery drain issues on my iPhone 4S. I have followed the advice of many of the websites which claim to have investigated this issue, and still have battery drain issues with almost no use during the day.  In fact, I have turned off so many services, it's more like a "kind of smart" phone now.

Apple needs to address this quickly.

I had an 3gS before I switched to the new 4S and noticed that my battery life on the 3GS seemed to drain faster after I upgraded the iOS. Though I the phone still made it through the day just had less battery life then before. Does the new iOS monitors battery life differently?

Well, first of all... thanks for the good tips in this forum, but personally, I don't think it's fair for the customers because I've just paid a LOT of money for this phone (It's expensive in my country) and I LOVE it's location based services, I LOVE being on FB/TWITTER/G+ and I LOVE listening to music, almost all day on my phones. So can someone please explain me whats the FKIN point of having an iPhone with all these wonderful features if I have to disable them to "survive the day"?

I thought I would add my four penneth.

Just before I went to bed my iPhone 4s would be charged to 100%.  I would disconnect it from it's charger and by the morning it would be down to around 80%.  What I did was to switch off 'Find my Friends'.  Now I find the phone lasts a lot longer on a single charge.  It's not perfect I know but it will do until Apple can find a fix.
