Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

1M16, check my post above (4 before yours); his problem could be multitasking, but my phone was NOT multitasking and losing 8% battery in 33 minutes.

push is off , no apps running the background also location services disabled for SIRI and find my friends.

my useage pattern is no different than it was with my iphone 4.

the phone says that it has been in standby for 3 hours and 29 minutes and now the battery is at 55%

Really stumped, shame there was not a proper battery usage cpu / app which could show wehere power is being burnt.

strange, on last saturday suddenly the battery life increased very well, although using sms, whatsapp, 3g, and camera. managed to get through almost 48hrs before hitting 0%. however now it is back to as it was: crappy and barely making it 1 day (trying not to touch the phone)

should also add no push , the phone is set to pickup mail every 30 minutes.

I am waiting for the unlocked version of the iphone 4S to come out this month in the US. I will use it with an att prepaid gophone plan since i travel alot. I have an ipad with 3G, so i wont get a data plan for the iphone....and will only use it for voice and taking pictures and videos with. So i wonder if in my scenario, i will experience the same battery drainage since i wont be using 3G data or wifi really.

No matter, i think Apple is working on a solution. :-)

That is legitimately odd, and far from specifications... have you tried getting a replacement? Charging a phone twice or 3 times a day is a hassle, I'd get a free replacement if you can, you have nothing to lose. Even if they release a patch, it will take a while to get it out, how much worse can the battery get than losing 18% per hour on standby, you know? Save yourself the frustration and see if a replacement would behave differently.

Those of you who are frustrated over the battery life, make sure it really is out of the estimates of the specifications. Now that this "batterygate" is getting momentum, I'm afraid that the users with legitimate battery problems are going to get drowned out by new people and new crowds yelling over their 5% overnight battery drain, which is typical with the 4s specifications, or losing the normal 5-7% over browsing wifi for 30 mins. Keep in mind that the specifications are NOT "200 mins standby AND 10 hrs of wifi AND 6 hrs of 3G AND 8 hrs of talk time" it's "OR" not "AND"... so keep in mind your average use. Yes, that Angry Birds can drain you a few percent for say 15 mins of play, it's a lot more demanding than sending a text message.

Yep me too. As soon as I unplug it the battery goes down to about 98%. My housemates hardly even makes it to 100% during a charge! What's going on apple!! Considering moving back to my 3gs. I have tried everything.

How long do you wait between 98% and 100% while it's plugged in?

The fastest charge time occurs from 0-80%. The last 80-100 takes the most time, and can take as much time as 0-80% did. And so getting from 98 to 100 could take as much as like 10 minutes.

    Hi All,

This is neto from Brazil again...

    I agree with vlapira.

I did a test today, I came to office and I have changed my exchange account from Fetch to Push.

With the phone on the table, in 2 hours I have lost 6% of the battery.

    I did a charge again (100%) - 1:50PM and I changed it back to Fetch 15 minutes.

    Right now: 4:24PM (almost 3 hours) - 97%

    Basically:

    PUSH - ridiculous using battery

FETCH - OK, but using a lot

MANUAL - the perfect, but no make sense to have an Iphone and set to manual

I agree with vlapira something could be related with the account on Exchange. I'm a HEAVY + user (with more than 300 emails per day). Could be the issue (I never had problems with my older blackberry)

At this point, FETCH 15 minutes and I can survive with it (for while)

    All the best

    neto

Just another data point - I was having horrible battery life - dropping 10%/hour. I replaced the SIM (which I had moved from an Android phone and trimmed down to fit in my iPhone) with a new iPhone microSIM. My battery issues have now gone away and I've been at 100% battery for a solid hour.

I'm sure there are many issues going on here, but would be curious as to how many people just moved their old SIM over and are having battery issues. Perhaps the new SIM is configured to hit services that are configured/optimized for the iPhone???

Folks, here is another interesting find:

Today, i was on a 3 hour drive and decided to charge my iPhone along the way. When plugged into the car charger the cpu levels were really high. If I unplugged, it still remained high until a restart. After restarting the cpu levels remained low until i plugged it back in. Perhaps the iPhone was trying to figure out what kind of device it was connected to and was not able to figure out?

CPU usage data from System Activity Monitor (app)

    high = 50%

    low = 3-8%

Just to add to this post. Same problem with battery life, tried turning most features off but it drains quickly when on standby and ridiculously when I actually use it even if it is just to send a text message. This is my first iphone but i have an ipad2 and an ipod touch which are both great for battery life. Hoping it's just a software / 4s compatability issue which Apple will resolve ASAP...

I don't think you can get an iPhone without a data plan no matter how you plan to use it.  I know that AT&T wouldn't sell the 4 or 3GS without data plans.  Not sure about the other carriers.

I Also and getting aweful battery life, my phone will not last 8 hours on a full charge with almost no use! I have turned off 3G, Wifi, bluetooth, siri, push, location services, and lowered my brightness to the point where I couldnt see my screen and still get extreamly poor battery life, took it to the apple store (no help) told me it was a software problem and restored my phone still didn't adress my battery life, its almost worh it to switch back to my iPhone 4 so I am able to use it throughout the day.
