Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Apple!!! I want my iPhone to be fixed!!!! It is my first Apple product and i'm very disappointed! Where is that 200 hours in standby you announced?? I have to charge the phone every 12 hours or less!!! I chose iPhone instead Samsung after 1 week of thinking....i trusted you!! Why you lunch a product if is not yet Tested properly? Please fix the problem!! I have everything off, low brightness but no difference. 9% in 50 minutes on standby???? What is this? A joke??? Why you can't do a perfect product? First with iPhone 4, antenna gate....now again battery gate, or how to name it?..if my problem will not be fixed, i will never ever buy an apple product again, i will never ever recomand an apple product to someone!!!! HOPE YOU DO CARE! Thank you!

    I ran my 4S down to 0% charge last night and let it charge overnight using Battery Doctor to make sure I got a full charge and a trickle charge the rest of the night to get it up to 100%.

    I took it off of the charger this morning at 7 am PST and have very little enabled as far as locations and notifactions go.  Locations Services = Camera, Compass, Maps, Planets, Reminders, Safari, Siri and Find my iPhone. Notifications = Phone, Messages, Reminders and Calendar. System Services = Cell Network Search and Compass Calibration.

    Mail is set to manual fetch, photo stream is off.  Nothing synching to iCloud.  CPU Usage when sitting idle jumps between 3.5% and 8% (approximately) so I'm not sure what is running, Could be System Status Lite pulling down ads.

    Have gone from 100% battery  to 70% in 5.5 hours.  So approximately 6% loss per hour.

    I have not made any calls, I sent 2 text messages, I have checked my email about once an hour, no web use / surfing, no music, no map search, checked twitter a couple times.

    Hopefully apple is looking at this thread and seeing what people are posting and can come up with a patch soon.

    That's interesting, the iCloud backup screen indicates it will do a backup only when connected to wifi and power.  Maybe yours is trying to do it on power only.

    Folks, here is another interesting find:

    Today, i was on a 3 hour drive and decided to charge my iPhone along the way. When plugged into the car charger the cpu levels were really high. If I unplugged, it still remained high until a restart. After restarting the cpu levels remained low until i plugged it back in. Perhaps the iPhone was trying to figure out what kind of device it was connected to and was not able to figure out?

    CPU usage data from System Activity Monitor (app)

    high = 50%

    low = 3-8%

    FWIW I did some basic checks with Instruments that confirm that even in standby wifi stays on and is receiving/transmitting data.

    Does anyone know if this is intentional? Why would the phone remain active over wifi even if all push features have been disabled?

    So, I came to the office today at 8 am. By 3 pm, my phone was so dead I can't even turn it on. I have turned off ALL location services and mail is manual only. I haven't made one call or sent any texts or emails. I have not used video or any apps.

    If I am at home, the battery lasts over 24 hours. So it appears to have something to do with my proximity to a cell tower. It's not like in our in the Boondocks, I work in Washington, DC.

    Any ideas? I am super frustrated and want my blackberry back.

    That's why you would simply purchase one unlocked directly from Apple.

    Voila!

    I have just worked out what amounts I have used on you saying that, I have def not used my phone for 7 hours straight, therefore it's def working on standby, I totalled it up to about 4.5 hours usage on my part. I will keep checking but I have tried almost everything on here. I am sure apple will sort it, either a new phone or software update :)

    I bought the iPhone 4S on launch day and the battery was draining like crazy like everybody else's here. I replaced mine with a new one a couple of days ago through the Apple store and this one seems to be performing slightly better (losing about 2-3% per hour rather than 7-9% earlier). I have switched off Set Time Zone and Calendar in the Notification Center (which I had not done in the my original 4S).

    I work in a very weak signal area, so when I try to make calls while in the office, the replacement almost 1% for every minute of a voice call and becomes very hot during the call.

    Overall, it is significantly worse compared to my iPhone 4. At the end of the day, with typical usage I would have about 40% battery left on iPhone 4. With the iPhone 4S, I am left with about 5-10%.

    APPLE -- It seems like a lot of people are being affected by this. And as Steve said in the Antennagate press conference, "And the way we work is we want to find out what the real problem is before we start to come up with solutions." I hope for everyone's sake in this forum that you are continuing to find the real problem and come up with real solutions as we speak (complain?).

    I was thinking it was me. I switched from a droid to the 4s and have been stunned by the battery drain. I've turned off most location services and generally have the phone in standby mode for six hours a day while at work. Yet, it is at or below 50% at the end of my work day.  Hopefully the issue gets figured out quickly or it will be a disappointing experience with my first iPhone...

    I solved the issue. When I first got the iPhone 4s battery was dying really fast. What I did was I turned off Set time Automatically  and I turned off the send to apple for diagnostics and usages. I let the battery die all the way down and then recharged to 100% and now battery life is normal. My phone battery lasts me for 2 days with light usage and 24 hrs with heavy usage. Try what I did and let me know if it works for you.

    Battery life was fairly decent when my 4S arrived three weeks ago. Poor performance seems to have croped over the last two weeks. Have tried multiple hardware resets, limiting some notifications and alerts.

    Same here.  Full charge all night, put in my pocket and an hour later after NO use, I'm down to 89-91%.  Done all the software fixes I've read about and still having issues.
