Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I bought four iPhones, a 64gb and the rest are 32gb models. Three of the four batteries lasts just fine, but one of the 32gb phones battery lasts about half as long as the others. They were all set up the same way, so I don't think it is a configureation issue for this one phone.

As a first time Iphone owner, I have no basis for comparison but this is what I have experienced. I loaded my phone as new device, and put all info in manually.  after tweeking settings

My phone uses 2% per hour of pure standby.  It was far worse until I turned off most of the notification settings.  In particular the time zone setting.  I set email to manual check only.  turned off Siri lift to talk.  That said, I find the 3g internet usage burns dow the battery pretty quickly.  Card games etc also burn through the battery much faster than my last Android phone. My experience tells me the problem is reall in Notifications, and can be corrected with a proper software update.

Either the iphone 4S is defective or Apple committed serious false advertisement. I believe it is defective.  On the Apple website it advertised 200 hours of standby.  My new iPhone 4s will go from 100% full to 0% in 10 hours of just stand by.  I hardly talked on it but I am returning the iphone this weekend to the apple store for a new one in hopes that new phone's battery life works.  It's upsetting that we have to take away features to extend the battery life...why then have the features available?

my iphone story...  i setup an iphone with Sprint first.  I went through a full charge cycle 0% to 100%.  i didn't have too apps installed.  i used bluetooth and gps and always had wifi turned on.  i wasn't aware of how to turn off apps running in the background so i never did.  apps i used were facebook, push email, atomic web, dropbox, teamviewer.  i also had icloud activated.  i could go an entire day without a charge.  i'd surf the web on '3g' and played music.  i was so frustrated with Sprint's data throttling that i left them and went to AT&T.  i bought the 64 gb for sprint.

I backed up all my apps and then started a new plan with AT&T.  I synced with my itunes and had all the previous apps.  I actually started to turn off apps running in the background and stop push.  i reduced my gps processes.  i ran a full charge cycle 0% to 100%.  and my battery life significantly reduced to about 6-7 hours on a single charge.  i was running wifi the entire time.  i did some web surfing and played music.  i had bluetooth on around the 50% mark.  i bought the 32 gb for AT&T.

Everyone who is a light user, switch all your email accounts to manual and watch your standby time, my batteries life seems to have improved standby wise having this set to manual, could mail be the culprit?

not true.  i had push enabled on my sprint for both my email accounts and it lasted the entire day.  i disabled push email for AT&T for one of my accounts and my battery life *****.

I have not experiment or taking notes of how much battery has drained over period of time. I will try to do that tomorrow. Above issue just some concern about my 4S battery life.

Here's some pic of my 4S:

    around 10:55am this morning:

    IMG_1967.png

I have reset all settings around 2:19pm. Then I powered my phone off and turn it back on around 3:24pm.

    IMG_1971.png

At 86% standby is only resulting 5hrs and 10 minutes? 200hr standby time = 100%. Mathematically speaking at 80% battery life should at least show me 160hours. This is after powering off the phone to make sure there's nothing running in the background. Is this just a matter of calibrating the battery or I do have the same issue?

    Thanks.

Using iPhone 4s, turned off the Time Zone Settings, but that didn't help. It won't be very convenient to have to manually turn on and off all the wonderful bells & whistles. I depend on automatic email to keep track of important email accounts, both personal and work. Love my iPhone, even though I have to be near a power source all day long to make use of it. Not sorry I got it though. I'm an Apple girl for life.

Having the battery drain issue on iPhone 4 since iOS5 installation. Reinstalled the new iOS about 4x over the past week hoping a new install would fix it but nope. I'm a light user really, usually just iMessage/Calling people/Facebook app and Echofon Twitter app are my regular uses.

I listen to a radio app over night when I was on iOS4, would lose about 8-10% over an about an 8-10hr period with the radio playing over night. I now drop about 60-80% overnight in a 7hour period, even lost all 100% in 7.5hrs 2nights away. Woke up to my iPhone dead so had to charge up. I also lose about 10% - 15% every 1.5hrs if I don't touch the iPhone at all without anything running.

I've turned off many settings that I never had to do under iOS4 but none of these have helped. Please find a fix Apple

Ironically I have my phone set to push its email and the phone with a problem was set to fetch manually.

I bought two iphone 4s 16gig's the day they were released from Sprint and am having horrible battery life. I love the phone and its features, but I have tried everything I have found in the discussion groups and in other forums online and am still getting terrible battery life from the 4s's.

For example, I charged my 4s when I got home last night and then once it was at 100% charge at bedtime, took it off my charger in order to use that same charger to charge my ipad overnight. This morning, the fully charged 4s had dropped to 45% battery life...without ANY use whatsover overnight...! I just asked my wife how her 4s is doing today and hers is down to 63% since this morning with very, very little usage. (She hardly ever uses any of the data features, etc., only makes phone calls).

Something really weird also happened to the battery life yesterday while I was flying home from Venezuela. I had charged my phone overnight and did not use it at all on the way to the airport, then turned it off on the plane from Maracaibo to Miami. When I arrived in Miami, I turned it on, checked my email, sent a few text messages and also some Heytell messages during my 1:45 minute layover before turning it off before getting on the plane. Our flight was delayed due to mechanical problems and I turned the phone one in order to show my seat mates how Siri works. When I turned it on, I was shocked to find the battery percentage had dropped to sixty some percent...!

I left T-Mobile after 8+ years as a very satisfied customer specifically to get the new 4s. Was running jailbroken 3gs on T-Mobile without any problem and much, much better battery life. Needless to say, I am very unhappy with what we are dealing with. I wish someone from Apple would at least tell us what is going on or simply replace our phones if it is a hardware issue.

This is the second time I see an "airplane" story where some drainage occured. The other one was in the UK. It may be 3G infrastructure related. I think I just read 2 posts from AT&T users with one being satisfied, and the other not so much. I am curious if you could disclose the city where you are.

Anyways, I don't have the resources to build a problem matrix for you guys but maybe correlating results may help streamline the issue for some types of user. Unfortunately, such a forum is not very useful for that purpose.

my iphone 4 is about a year old and i still get two days out of a charge, even with ios5. my 4s was trashing my battery in about 10 hours with a little more than moderate use. i turned off all the icloud and location crap, and it seems to be holding the charge longer. think we need some ios 5.01 asap...

I just wanted to let people know I was contacted by apple today. Very nice and they continue to prove why they are some of the best if not the best customer service around. They are listening and we are definitely being followed. I dont know if they are going to find an answer or if they will even identify a problem, but at least I applaud that they are trying. Currently I am getting about maximum one day of standby and anywhere between 5-7 hours of use on my phone. Not awful, but I dont believe that is apple standards. Although I have nothing to compare to since this is my first iphone. I am with sprint as well. I guess time will tell. My suggestion is use the phone the way you bought to use it. Hopefully a cure is on the way.
