Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Going from 100% charged to dead in about 5 hours of little use during the day. Actually gone from 26% to 8% in the 70 minutes prior to writing this post. This has been occurring from new, and it is going back to the AT&T store on Saturday although it would appear a replacement phone is unlikely to be any better. Phone runs hot on the left side when in use. I see the Diagnostics & Use has several LowBatteryLog entries - at least one a day. I don't have Automatically Send turned on, but if others do, then Apple must know all about the battery problem. My husband has iPhone4 with iOS5 installed since it was released. He sees battery usage has degraded, but nothing like the 4s. Very frustrating.

I had this problem for days.  Apple graciously replaced my harware, no help.  I reinstalled the software, didn't work.

I finally had to create my new 4s from scratch, abandoning my 4 back-up.  It was a pain, but the new cloud feature made it easier.  I went from a 7 hour battery life (and a very warm phone) to a battery life that is only slightly poorer than my iPhone 4.

I can't say what specifically caused the problem, but the 4s didn't like something about

    My iPhone 4 configuration.

The battery on my 3GS was much better. If I listen to a couple pod casts my battery is down 50%, it was not like that with my old iphone

This is totally unacceptable. I've spent my hard working money in purchasing this phone, only to find out the battery performance is totally pathetic. Even my old 3GS displays better performance!

Until Apple get's this issue solve, I'm going to advice all of my friends and families to steer away from the iphone 4S.

For what it's worth apple is not sitting idly by. People are being contacted by apple support folks in an attempt to figure out what is going on. They may not necessarily be contacting you personally (yet) but many users have in fact been asked to run special battery profiles for them to investigate

just adding my name to the list! Mine will go from 100% to 40-50 overnight with all apps closed in about 6-8 hours of doing nothing. My iPods, ipads3g will maybe lose 1-2% in the same amount of time. I'm going to let it die all the way down tonight. Starting tomorrow I'm going to take a snapshot of the lock screen every 15-30 minutes to track and log usage/non usage to better gage the drainage maybe even post a YouTube video of my findings. Hope Apple fixes this soon enough, I love my iPhone 4s, and I don't believe it's a hardware problem. battery doc app said I had 132 hrs stby time left and had been in standby for 6 hrs, with batt at 48% so that can't be right. However the other day my phone stayed at 20% for over an hour while playing music and word warp. I just don't know! C'mon Apple get cracking on this.

A faulty battery meter might be fixable via battery calibration (do a full charge and just run your battery down to 0% and do a full charge once more)

BS, THEY DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND RELEASED THE PHONE DUE TO CONSUMER PRESSURE.....TIME FOR THEM TO RECALL OR GET A FIX..THE LEAST THEY CAN DO IS ANNOUNCE THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!!!!! ONE MORE THING...WHY DO WE HAVE TO TWEEK THE PRODUCT.....THE FEATURES THAT THEY BOASTED ABOUT IS WHY I BOUGHT IT!!!!!

Got the phone 2 days ago... and remembered I need to charge 1 day about 3 times. 2 day charged 6 times.

calibrate battery... turn off all setting.. still the same.. this is the worst iphone ever.. worst than 3gs.

you can try this... just scroll the icon.. then go into few app and come out again.. repeat for about 2 to 3 minutes.. the percentage drop 1% to 2%.

100% this morning 8am, watch a clip for about 30minutes, check email 3 minutes. at 10am, it was 74%.

and i still have long day to go....

But no issue on my iphone 4.... so i guess it is not the iOS5 issue... is the dual core !

I'm seeing the same thing.  At a friends house with very bad 3G coverage and no WiFi, I can drop 100% in 8 hours while I am asleep, with 1 Google account set as Exchange and Push, and 3 other email accounts set up as fetch at 15 minutes and several Location Services turned off.

At home and work today (the exact same system settings, accounts, etc.), with a strong WiFi signal and decent 3G signal, my phone has been unplugged for 19 hours and I have only dropped 19%.  I am currently at 81%.
