Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I've since returned my 4S to the Apple Store until this issue is addressed. I do believe Apple will follow through with a fix, but for now I'm using my old 4. I don't really see a need in keeping the 4S if it's nearly unusable for me. I've tried all the fixes in this thread and nothing worked very much. My iPhone 4 battery life is great! I've even applied some of the fixes that people have posted they've done with their 4S and my battery life is even better.

Twice as long to charge. Half the battery life. Need a fix here.

My wife and I got iPhone 4Ss to replace our 3GSs.  We got them mostly because our battery life was not good after 2 years. Now the new iPhones have even worse battery life!  I hope Apple figures this out soon because that is rediculous!

Seems better since they changed my phone...The battery is about 50% when i finish working , with the other battery it was around 20%. But that is in a day of almost no utilisation...Just a bit during the breaks, and sometimes plays a couple of songs ....So even though it IS better, It's far from perfect....If it was a complete day outside, i wouldn't be able to go trough the day with one charge....But I'm still hoping, since i know that the previous battery started to be better after maybe 6-7 complete charges...

Unplugged it this morning at 5h30, it was 100%.

    Now it's 07:49

    Usage: 39 min

    Standby: 2H11min

    Battery % : 89%

    What do you think...?

Nice to see a review where someone actually puts numbers to the battery problems, obviously the tester did not see the 20% per hour problems, but VERY interestingly he was seeing the same sort of power consumption at idle betweek the 4s and the 4. This gives me some hope that it can be improved with a software update from Apple !!!!!!!!!!

I think you are fine MarieEveF.  Your rate of battery drain is 3.88% an hour based on your current numbers.  If you kept using the phone in this way, you would achieve about 25 hours and 46 minutes of combined use (between calls and standby).  This will change depending on how you use your phone.

Hi everyone, I am in Dublin, just bought my first smartphone and I am really disappointed with the batterylife, it doesn’t last a business day...I am under Vodafone contract and I am wondering if should I return the iPhone 4s or it will be addressed as IOS issue as there are so many complaining going on at this moment. I hope they get itfixed very soon...

Does anyone know a workaround to the battery last more than that?

    Hi all,

I wanna join the club of disappointed IPhone 4S users.

I also got the battery issue though as I need to charge thephone daily but use its very barely.

Almost no phone calls, only surfing for a couple of min andswitching off all features which might use much power. E.g. location service,Mail, Facebook etc.

I'm not sure if the following has been reported already (toomany answers here), but when I charged my phone and unplug it in just thisminute the power goes down to 99% and short after 95%. I can't imagine it use1% of power by just take out the plug....

Hope there will be a solution/fix soon as this situation is muchuncomfortable especially for travelling. No advantage of using a apple productif the power is missing.

    Cheers,

    TTB

I may as well add my thoughts here in the hope that Apple might take note and make an official statement even if it is to just say they are aware of an issue and are working hard to figure out the cause and or fix it?

Maybe it's too much of a dent to their pride to acknowledge there is even a problem, or that individuals have an issue that is NOT specific to that single phones hardware, but that it might actually be something to do with the new software running on the new hardware.

So I have had some terrible results with my new iPhone 4S.

I have turned off location services and notifications and turned down the brightness of the screen and constantly make sure i have no apps multitasking. So basically I'm back to a phone that is as if its a 1st gen iPhone (which i loved) and still have. I own the 1st Gen iPhone and 3gs and now a limp 4s.

First charge test left the 4s dead in about 12 hours. Not even being used much at a all.

Even in flight mode i noted that at one pint i was loosing about 3% every 5mins or so.

So I un-installed iCloud and re set the phone up fresh and did a full charge from dead.

With the phone in a state I cant really use it as it was intended my battery life is still dissipating at a rate of 20%

every 4hours which for a phone that is not even receiving texts or doing anything isn't good - but this is the best performance iv managed to get out of the phone.

After 3 goes at conditioning the battery, while on several 2g calls to apple each lasting 10mins I was loosing 4% in those 10mins.

I went in store and right in front of the rep she saw the battery disapate at a rate of 1% in about 1min after just going to a single webpage.

In the last 2 days I have tried to not use my phone bar sending a couple of texts and 1 or two 3min calls and my phone lasts about 20hours max.

I ring apple and they simply say:

Apple: "oh you are within 14days just take it in and we will replace it"

me: "are apple aware that there is any kind of problem with the iPhone 4s"

Apple:  "No - there may be a couple of people who experience issues but that may just be down to a faulty handset, like yours"

me "I have read that Apple Techs have been calling people to try and figure out what the issue might be"

Apple: "I don't know anything about this - if you would like to be transferred to a senior tech i can do this for you"

Senior tech: "There isn't to my knowledge any evidence that there is a problem with the 4s"

Me: "what about the things i have read about apple techs calling people? and all the discussions out there on the web and the apple forum?"

Senior tech: "we have no knowledge of this and or any issues with the iPhone4s, I suggest we book you in to get your handset replaced."

In denial - or not in the knowledge loop it would seem.

I then spoke to the business team at a UK Apple Store.

They said there is no issue with battery life and booked me in to get my phone swapped.

I then told them my concern about the new phone and what if it has exactly the same issues - and maybe it would be better if they could help me help them diagnose the issues by running diagnostic software on my current device.

They replied saying they can not comment on the state of the iPhone 4s potential issues that people might be having but they would be happy to just replace my phone for me.

Super frustrating and a total lack of acknowledgement in store or with apple support. So here goes I get my new phone in a couple of hours lets hope for Apples sake that its just a one off issue like they say with my handset.

Maybe i should just get a refund.

    We live in hope...

Just unplugged by phone 20min ago, drove to school and battery is at 11min usage, this is insane, why cant Apple at least contact us.  First Apple product, I am not a happy customer. Probably going back to Android if it does not get resolved soon. I'm not bashing or anything but the fast that Apple will not state anything publically is insane. I tried resets, turned everything off, I need a phone that I can use not keep everything off so it can barelly last 1 day.

Back some pages ago, someone mentioned using BATTERY DOCTOR PRO to manage the charge of their 4s.   I decided to stop fiddling with all the settings and options and give that a try last night.

So I downloaded the app and investigated it a bit, while drawing my battery down as far as possible.   When I went to bed, I was at 11%.   I activated BDP and plugged the phone in.   This morning, there was a BDP message that the phone was successfully charged to 100%.

I have EVERYTHING ON.   All location services, all notifications.   64gb Black on AT&T.   Attached to Wifi at home and at the office, one hour commute with decent 3G service the entire route.  Exchange mail and calendar for the office (push), Yahoo mail (push) and Gmail (fetch 15min)

Unplugged at 5:30am.   As of right now, at 8:15am, I'm at 99%, with 20min usage showing and 2:10 of standby.   I know it's still early, but its a good start!!!!

I have found that using my Iphone 4s auto lock feature has greatly increased my battery life span. I was having to recharge my battery twice a day. This was annoying to say the least. My speculation is the screen is eating up the battery life. I hate having to unlock my phone everytime I need to use it but this seems to have helped greatly.

Both my sister and I have the white iphone 4S and our battery is not terrible. Rather it is a huge improvement for me and my sister. My iphone 4S last a lot longer than my iphone 4. While my sister's 4S also last a long longer than her iphone 3GS. Both of ours can go over 2 days on standby.
