Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

after reading a lot and posting my frustration also

i manage to get decent idle drain now, manage to keep 4/5hours in 100%

but in usage i can see the % lower by the minute, once i check facebook news feed, read some texts, nothing more

i arrived at work at 9, received couple of texts, checked facebook twice used a bit of whatsapp messenger around 20 texts, no calls, everything off

    it is now 12h30

the battery went from 86% to 76%, whit so litle usage

from what i see the battery just cant handle the usage, even if it is minor and light, it simply evaporates

when i had the iphone 4 whit this kind of usage i should be well over 90%

    very frustrating

I have had my 4S for two weeks now and the battery life is very disappointing. It is always dead before evening so I have to carry a charger with me. And this is even after I have turned off every possible service as recommended in the forums.

Now I am at work and it is only lunchtime and the battery is at 59%. And I have hardly used the phone today.

I bought this phone because the battery in my old 3G was completely dead only lasting about an hour. But when that phone was new it lasted way longer than the 4S.

Here is what fixed the issue for me: I deleted and re-added an email POP account to the phone. After upgrading to iOS5 I noticed that whenever I would go into email, the phone would jump to the inbox of one specific email account (I have two POP accounts with Yahoo and one Exchange account) no matter which account I had last left email. This was strange so I deleted that one account and re-added it, and not the battery lasts longer than ever. I assume it was constantly doing something with his email account...

This is my first iPhone and I'm very dissapointed with the battery life. Hopefully Apple with find a solution fast before I decide to return the phone.

    same problem.

both the iPhone4 and iPhone4S were charged all night, iPhone 4S started off with 97% despite being charged all night.

I upgraded to the 4s from the original iPhone 3G last week and have been experiencing pathetic battery life. After 30 minutes of light use this morning I'm already at 89%. My wifi, Bluetooth, location settings are all off. At this rate the battery will last a mere 5 hours without any real use.

I hope apple addresses this problem ASAP, or at least acknowledge the problem exists as a first step

Taking out 7:30 am from charging after all night...Going at work 8 am, none call, used appstore twice and viber application few times....at 12 pm it was down to 70% already with I cant even say normal usage! The battery last from 8am to max 6pm each day!

Last night, I left it plugged into my computer, and my computer was on all night. It should have been fully charged by morning.

When I woke up this morning, I couldn't open the phone.

Turns out that for some reason, the phone almost completely discharged the battery (Down to 3%).

    First time this has happened.

Perhaps yesterday's software update told my phone to do this, but IDK.

    Anyone else have this issue?

    (It's charging nicely now, though)

I charge my phone all night. I usually unplug it around 7:30am. Through out the day I will use it here and there, no more that a total of 30min usage. By the time I get home at 6:00pm there is 10%-20% battery life left. This is extreamly annoying thinking that I upgraded from a 3Gs to what it supposed to be the best phone out there and unless I am near a place to charge it every few hours I am not able to use my phone throughout the day. I am a little embarresed that I recommended this phone to some people who ended up buying it just to have them let down.

I have also noticed that while charging or in use some times the phone gets extreamy hot, to the point I think it might melt what ever is inside. I am not sure if this is a common problem or just my phone.

I suspect this could be the root cause of battery problem:

I have calendar notification turn on in the notification. I have 4 calendars - office exchange, hotmail exchange, gmail exchange and iCloud calendars. Whenever I swipe down the notification centre from the top of the screen, the calendar section keep flickering non-stop as if the program enters some infinite loop trying to fetch data and update the UI. I turn off calendar notification and now it is ok. Today i turn off calendar for all my 4 mail accounts and turn them back on again. After that I turn on calendar notification in notification centre, now my notification centre no longer flickrer and I have good battery life.

Just my observation. Hope it helps.

I have yet to take the plunge into the dark abyss that is the iPhone 4S.  I presently own a 4 (or does the 4 own me??)  I've had this phone since initial release and have loved it like I do my girlfriend (just don't tell my girlfriend)...  I've heard about the shoddy battery performance on the 4S, hence my hesitation.

    BUT...

I felt the need to chime in here.  I, like the rest of the modern world, have upgraded to iOS5.  Ever since the upgrade, my 4's battery life has decreased DRAMATICALLY!!!  I am experiencing the same issues that many of the 4S users are.  Within a half hour of being off the charger, the battery is at 89% with virtually NO use.  Now, for all I know, this has been mentioned in the 200+ pages of posts here.  But I lack the motivation and desire to read 200 pages of the same issues.  But I really wanted to acknowledge that this is NOT a 4S problem (as far as I go).  This is absolutely an iOS5 issue.  One of the main culprits (at least in my case) was the WiFi sync.  It seemed that was completely tanking the battery.  However, even after disabling, I still experience low performance, just not as bad.

It just boggles my mind that Apple can host over 200 pages of complaints about 1 specific issue, yet will NOT acknowledge the issue as an actual issue!!!  I won't even get into the fact that no apparent testing seems to have been done BEFORE iOS5 made it to the market, with reference to battery life.  I expect this kind of performance from a snot-nosed, immature child of a company.  NOT a tech giant, known for sleek astetic and intense forthinking!!!  I am thoroughly disappointed!!!

Again, if this was already mentioned in this sea of comments, then forgive the repetition.  This is the first time I've actually taken to any forum with my gripes, so personally, that's saying something about the calibur of prioduct being released nowadays!!!

My iphone 4S even in FLIGHT MODE goes red hot and loses power within a few hours! By turning off calendar notifications, icloud back up and location services my battery seems OK now.

Also, when i upgraded my 3gs to IOS5 i had major battery issues, by just turning of locationservices resolved this issue.

I am so angry ! Even if they fix teh issue my iphone 4S has been stressed to the max!

Suffering the same ordeal here. I've ended up trying not to use the phone at all. I feel cheated as I watch the battery drain minute by minute. It's a shame that we've this supposed uberphone that really is a piece of decor since we can't use it. I haven't even gotten around to testing out Siri since I'm always on the run and worry the that the phone will die on me!

Trying reeeeeeaaaaally hard not to regret this...

With my iPhone 4, never before, under any circumstance did my battery EVER die before 6pm.  I didn't use my phone much yesterday and at 6, it was at 0% and turned off.

I'm going to the Apple store to demand a replacement due to defective battery.  I suspect the replacement will have the same issue but maybe they will start to get the point.  I urge others to do the same.

    i too have this issue.

if im at home (in a 3G area) i loose about 10% per hour, even in standby.

strangely enough, at work (where im in a 3G black hole) and the phone drops back to 2G, i seem to get way better battery life in standby.

lastnight, i went to bed and set the alarm on the phone (as i always do) to wake me up.

the phone was at 84% when i went to sleep, when the alarm went off 8 hours later, the phone is saying 10% ! *** ???

come on Apple, fix this issue.
im sure it's a ios5 issue, not a battery issue.

    Jason.
