Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

My boss had his for 1 afternoon.  Brought it back today and wants his iPhone 4 back.  The battery will be the killer for this phoneWhat do you do with a phone no one wants?  Apple better move on this one quickly.

I've got those problems too with my new iPhone 4S and I'm very disappointed with the phone at this moment.

WIFI, GPS and even SIRI (which is just crap in german) are disabled and the battery is drained 40% over night (!!!!) and another 10-20% after 2-3 more hours (while using the phone in a normal way ... checking mails, tweeting some stuff, visiting 5-10 websites, doing some short calls). ***? Even my 3-year old iPhone 3G manages to "survive" 4-5 days given the same usage. Maybe it's because on my old iPhone I was allowed to turn 3G off?!?! Or is it a software/hardware bug???

I've already contacted the german support hotline, which wasn't of any help at all. I'm no racist, but what's the idea behind indic/turk/russian support employees, who are not capable of speaking my language correctly and therefore don't understand my questions/problems?!? They finally "routed" me on to the next Apple Store (with the closest time slot free on wednesday next week). Awesome support, thumbs ... down!

I got my 4S last week and Saturday it completely drained overnight in standby mode.  I don't remember what the percentage was before I went to bed that night but I know for sure it was over  50%.  I know from having previous iPhones that this is not normal or acceptable.  Noticing many articles and tips for helping reduce battery drain, I have turned a handful of setting off and have noticed some improvement.  It's a good temporary fix, but what's the point of having to turn off all the cool features in a desperate attempt to reserve battery life?  These features are why I purchased the phone.  My 2 year old 3GS had superior battery life with nothing "turned off" to save battery features.  I certainly hope that this is software issue that can be fixed with the next update.  Just today, 3 people in my office who want to buy the new iPhone have come and asked me about the battery issues that they have heard about.  I confirmed that I have experienced problems, and they all clearly seem hesitant to purchase now.  This is the stuff Apple should care about, and why they could benefit from some simple statement acknowledging the problem and that a fix is on the way.

Maybe this is apple teaching us a lesson on why they don't make iPhones flash-capable. ;)

I can't believe we're still waiting for an official response.

I sincerely hope that it is a software problem but it seems to be looking increasingly likely that the hardware is at fault. I, and many others, have tried all these 'fixes' but nothing's worked. Unless it's some silent software bug, it can only be the hardware; It's still draining too quickly compared to the advertised battery life.

    SORT IT OUT, APPLE!

    My 2pence worth.

Purchased last Saturday - got home and eventually got round to syncing with iTunes. Played with Siri etc.

    Charged up overnight.

Sunday more playing - alarming battery usage, down to 20%, charged overnight.

Monday - at work, light use, battery dropping fast, playing in evening, down to 25%, charged overnight.

Tuesday - at work, light use, battery dropping fast, playing in evening, down to 25%. So I did this:

Reset All Settings. Turned off all notifications, GPS only on for apps that need it. No push notifications. 2 email accounts set to manual. Siri is on.

Turned off my gmail exchange for mail, contacts, calendar. Turned back on and found 6 duplicate entries in my contacts. Deleted them. Charged overnight.

Today, Wednesday - at work, light use, only dropped from 100% to 82% in 10hours. It appears to be a different phone now. I will switch on hourly fetch for mail and see what happens.

I can tell for sure, the problem is related with email. No email the battery can survive for a long time.

Could you please share your exactly email configuration? Exchange? PUSH? FETCH? etc

    Thanks

Tried everything here to no avail.  Then I noticed that the Notes App on my 4S was not syncing notes from an IMAP email account, though it would from my iCloud account. Instead, it created a seperate Notes folder in the email app.  Interestingly, the same IMAP account behaves properly on my iPad running iOS 5 - syncs the notes properly into the Notes App, allows me to choose which account to create a note in, etc.   Tried turning off the notes sync in settings for the IMAP accout without effect.  So I deleted the entire IMAP email account from the 4S and so far it seems to have largely resolved my battery issues.  Up to about 7 - 8 hours of moderate use time, where before I was getting maybe 4.  Not sure if the problem was with the Notes App specifically, or the entire IMAP account.  Not much of a long term fix, as I need to access that IMAP account on my iPhone, but I'm hopeful that I've at least isolated the issue.  We'll see.

At around 2:45am my phone was completely charged at 100%. I didn't have my phone on the charger last night and around 10 or 10:30 my phone was completely dead. This is the first time its battery has done this.

OK, a short update on my side:

I charged my iPhone 4S the whole day after doing a complete reset (as told by the support hotline employee), unplugged it 20 minutes ago and made ONE 2 minute phone call - the phone is already down to 95%!

Screw this ... the phone is going back!

I noticed that disabling notifications (emails etc) does help the battery but still isn't great. My Boss has a iPhone 4 and throughout the day had 95% left, I had 72% at the same time.

    Apple need to sort this.

Guys, did you try to disable iCloud push?

I noticed i had my mail/calendars set to fetch each 30 mins, but icloud was still push.

I set it to fetch every 30 mins too, im still on a 1% - hour with wifi on, fetch of 2 emails account+icloud address book, 3g on, cellular data on.

Using it to facebook/mail it seem to use 1% every 3/4 mins.

Calling it seems to use aroun 1% every 5 mins orso.

Compared to some statistics i saw here i cant complain, but still that 1% / hour with the settings i have seems to b still a little bit too high..
