Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Here is a screenshot of my iphone. MORE THEN 3 DAYS STANDBY and over 6 hours use and still 14 percent left. If you are not simply here to complain and are truly looking to solve the battery issue then let your battery die until it turns off. Then plug it in and soon as it turns on turn it off and let it charge to 100 percent or about 3-4 hours. I used to get 30 hours now I get over 3 days standby. Wfi, siri, iCloud, mail etc are all on. This is my thought, I think out of the box the Iphone was not detecting the full capacity of the battery and this allows the Iphone to see the full battery charge.

I see inconsistent behaviour.  Yesterday I turned off many items in location services (such as time zone, iads etc).  It seemed to work OK, maintaining good battery life.  Even this morning (after a full charge overnight) it was behaving well, and I was feeling good.

But by mid-day some thing happended (I did not make any change), all of a sudden the iphone 4s starting to feel warm, and the battery is draining at much faster rate.  My usage did not change much.  But first 5 hours it went from 100% to ~80%, and then with in a hour or so it went from 80% to 30%, and soon went to 20% and lower.  I have to charge again.   When it was draining so fast, the phone was warm to touch.  Looks like it some kind of thermal runaway issue.  Once it starts draining at a higher rate, the thermal runaway starts and drains the battery at much higher rate.

I hope Apple will nail the issue soon.  Else most of us will be regretting going to 4s.

Just here to add my thoughts as I'm in the UK with an iphone 4s and I'm ready to return the phone to Apple and ask for my iphone 4 back from my carrier.

So I've got everything turned off in notifications and location based services, I've got Siri turned off and all cloud features but still my phone eats battery life like there's no tomorrow.  I can put my phone in my pocket for an hour and then turn it on again and it's dropped another 10%.

What's so absurd is that I hardly use my phone during the day. I might send a few texts, log into a few social networking sites for no more then ten minutes and make a couple of calls. By 8pm my phone was down to 8%.

How could Apple allow such a faulty product onto the market? For the first time I am truly angry with a company who are so cash rich, but arrogant enough not to admit that there's a problem.

Couldnt agree more.  I turned everything off (pretty much all is left is for me to look at iphone because all functionality has been turned off) and it still drains the battery WITHOUT ANY USAGE! my phone dies completely within 3-4 hours even if I dont use it or with limited usage.  I am considering breaking my deal and returning it.  I thought blackberry life was bad but at least I can generally use it actively for 12-14 hours.  I am competely shocked! this is my first iphone and most likely my last.  I wanted something new and cool and all I got was a disappointment...

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! My old 3gs had better battery stand by time. Why didn't Apple test this thoroughly before releasing final hardware. Is there some type of Beta testing period there or are they too much in a hurry to get new product shipped. Please fix this ASAP!

I've had the same problem.  My battery is draining at a rate of more then 5%/hour.  It doesn't matter whether or not I am on standby or using it.  I also tried to remove all notifications and turned off Location services, dimmed my display, turned off wifi, gps and blue tooth.  That did not make a noticable change.

The battery on this extremely expensive phone is horrible.  I hope that Apple can fix this drainage.

This is my first iphone and Apple product.  Let me tell you that I am really regret making my foray into Apple-Land !!!!

    Please help Apple !!!!!!!

Did you happen to be using the Apple Mail app just before it started to drain the battery and heat up? I've been reading all about the 4s battery issue, and I'm trying to make a correlation because I wasn't having a problem with the phone for the first couple of days until I set up email accounts. I was using my iPod Touch, iPad and Mac for mail previous to this so I didn't need to set up the phone right away. Very soon afterwards, which may just be a coincidence, the battery issue appeared.

My phone is losing approx 20% in the first hour after 100% charge and after that it's about 5% an hour. But like you, mine drains rapidly by late afternoon.

I've been using Apple products since the mid-80s and this is the first issue (outside of specific software) that I've had with Apple products. Luck of the draw, I guess.

After reading Posts on here and experiencing shocking battery life myself I have tried various things with turning settings off etc. - nothing worked. However, I have tried downloading the battery doctor pro, letting my battery run down to 11% and then charging with the battery doctor app running. The app tells you when your phone is fully charged, and since doing this an hour ago, my battery is still at 100% with usage such as web browsing, texting and gaming. Hopefully this helps others as well until Apple resolves the issue...

I disconnected my fully charged iPhone 4S at 11:45AM this morning, and it's been on standby for the last three hours with minimal use. The battery charge level still reads 100%, though I know that it will start to decrease more rapidly than I would like--similar to my old iPhone 3GS--once I actually start to use it. (FYI, 3G, Siri, and a bunch of push notifications are enabled; location services and Bluetooth are off when I'm not using them.) But it holds up in standby mode very well. Last night I made a 20-minute phone call via Bluetooth, which drained the battery 5%. I've owned the thing since release day, and it has never crapped out on me through a full day's moderate to heavy use. Before I go to bed at night, and plug it in for a recharge, it is rarely below 25%. So not all of the phones are having problems, but there are obviously way too many others that are faulty.

Perhaps it's more about iOS5 than the phone or the battery themselves because I've heard that some iPhone 4 owners who have downloaded the latest software are having the same problems. I can't imagine that Apple won't address this sooner or later. It took them a few weeks to fix the iPhone 4 antennae problem, and it'll probably take the same amount of time for them to fix this one. But whether or not they've figured out the culprit, they do need to publicly acknowledge this soon.

With all the litigation between Apple and Samsung, could it be a Samsung bug or virus? Sorry, just had to comment.
