Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have iPhone 4.  Since I downloaded ios5 I occasionally find a nearly dead battery with no use within the day. I have 3G coverage most of the time.

There are a couple of things really suspicious here. One is that at some point yesterday, the mail application (Yahoo) seems to have stalled with 3G only (no wifi), there is something on the upper left corner constantly rotating and it dropped 10% of the battery in a matter of 3 minutes. So I shut the phone offf and restarted again, the drain seemed to have stopped. There is something buggy about the mail program, I hope apple can take note on this one.

Second is that in the Settings -> Network, it has a personal hotspot, there is also an image constantly rotating, I suspect that because I still have the old $30 unlimitted data contract from AT&T, but got the phone from Apple directly, they won't allow me to use the personal hotspot. There was confusion between Apple and AT&T how to deal with those old plans, there maybe an infinate loop constantly checking within the personal hotspot settings. I hope apple take note on this one as well.

Due to this battery problem i walk around with a charger until apple release an update. i hate having to depend on a charger having a new phone. i as well tried all posted suggestions and dont see any change to battery conservation. i think is an app running in the background

    APPLE - PLEASE

As you are aware and already developed a fix (hopefully) for battery issues, please INCLUDE one more thing:

The option that you removed to select only EDGE and not 3G - PLEASE

    Sincerely WE (WORLDWIDE) appreciate

please if you agree, please let's try to send this suggestion to APPLE ASAP

    Thanks

Wanted to report in my own fix path for 4S battery-gate (hopefully more to follow with OS revisions)...

    1)  Combination of Battery Conditioning (twice) seemed to have most impact

    2)  Turning off Location Services > Time Zone

    3)  Keeping Bluetooth off when not in use

I've kept all of my email accounts including several Google and one corporate Exchange account set to PUSH as I wanted to benchmark after going through the above.

Now getting very acceptable results:  1.3 - 1.5 days of standby combined with just under 8 hrs usage on average for past 3 days.

Bought a Mophie Juice pack in the interim. Expensive at $80 but does almost double my battery life which is great. Takes away from the sleek lines of the iPhone and makes it weigh quite a bit more, but at least no more battery irritation for the moment.  Hopefully Apple will solve this issue soon!!

Perhaps this has been posted, but here's a a statement from Apple about the battery issues.

“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” Apple said in a statement to AllThingsD. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

first off if you dont need your location services turn them off

then if you really want to find out how long your battery last, turn everything off and then play only music and do nothing else with your phone and time how long it takes to die, if you do that they wont turn you down if you call apple support

make sure youre using multitasking to keep the battery life longer ( double click your home button from teh home screen, hold an app listed till it wiggles if there is a minus sign not an X then hit the '-' sign till all of them are closed)  thats the first thing they will tell you to do if you call in and then they will send you on your way and youll have to call back in

lastly if its extremely bad, if youre under warranty call in chances are they will repair/replace the phone

I just bought my new iPhone 4S a week ago. I was very happy but in less than one week, i see that the battery is terrible. I need to recharge it every 10 hours. The worst is during my sleep, i dont use my phone and the next morning more than 50% has gone. I can't believe. I seriously think i will change my phone if Apple doesn't fine a answer very soon. Is it the new "batterygate" that is the question. I can(t have a phone with no battery with my current life it is impossible !

The solution with the iphone 4s battery is that you have to drain your battery until it will turn itself off and then do a full charge dont use it while it is charging - i went to work in the morning at 7 my phone was fully charged, i use my phone for games and browsing exactly 1 hour during my breaktime plus i got 4 phone calls with a total talk time of 7min. 13secs. and when i got home at 6:48 pm i have 78% left on my phone. I had the wifi turned ON, Data ON, location ON. I did the same thing again drain to zero than charge 100% for the next day i played games straight 1 hour during breaks  no phone calls though and when i got home at 5:16 i have 84% left. So i think you can get the real battery life after 2 times of discharging (0%) and charging (100%) your iphone4s. Hoping this little info. will work out to guys also.

Ok, so here's the fix that worked for my phone. I had to turn off wifi and location services. I now have close to normal "iPhone" battery life. UNACCEPTABLE that I should have to have these turned off to have my phone last longer than 12 hours.

I'm having the same issues. When I'm on my phone or not the battery drains a lot. I have reset my phone, had the battery drain and then charge it up completely and nothing has changed. I'd like this to get solved real soon.

I noticed that my battery life was not up to par as one would expect with the 4s, and after following a bunch of straight forward solutions posted here on the forum, i was able to get past 24 hours of standby time with 73% still remaining and a couple hours of usage.

This morning however, I noticed that my battery went from 43% to 20% within a couple of hours.  The last app I used was Chase, and when I went back to the app it said my account had idled out since I pressed the home button instead of logging out.  I wonder if this might be a background app management issue associated with apps that have account log-ins.  But then again, I never log out of facebook whenever I access it.  So I'm guessing some apps continuously run or there's some sort of miscommunication between the apps and processor.

    Just my two cents.
