Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Ok, so here's the fix that worked for my phone. I had to turn off wifi and location services. I now have close to normal "iPhone" battery life. UNACCEPTABLE that I should have to have these turned off to have my phone last longer than 12 hours.

If by normal "iPhone" battery life you mean 0.5% drain every hour, then your problem isn't your battery. The problem lies somewhere in your configurations and/or possibly software issues. Perhaps you can elaborate on what you mean by normal "iPhone" battery life.

I answered the thread on the other link but I have a question for you.

When you say "flickering", were you referring to the notications for meetings and so forth that appear as a slim band on the home screen?  If so, I noticed that meeting notices when they would appear would appear to be flashing or the letters were flickering rapidly on the notifier.  Is that what you meant by flickering?

I turned off my exchange corp account and it seems to have fixed the issue just as you said but I will back up and turn it back on and set the notifcation as you stated because I just threw the switch on everything in exchange and disabled it which worked great to fix the battery drainage issue.

On my second day of good battery life after two complete discharge cycles (let phone completely die and charge back up overnight with power off), and things are still looking pretty good. Better than yesterday in fact.  I still notice quick drain whenever I do something actively on the phone like Siri or network surfing, but my standby time is incredible now. I mostly played music today, and here are my results.  I've calculated that I would get about 20 hours of music at this level of drain.  It would consistently drop 1% every 12 minutes of music played, and I factored out the telephone standby time from my computations.

    Oh WOW!

    I just found the fix!

It is so simple I could not believe it.  Basically all you have to do is leave well enough alone and Apple will release a fix for this within the next week or two.

I could not believe I spent so much wasted time trying this or trying that.

Heh heh, now focus on bigger and better things....

Ok so I got the Iphone 4s 32gb for sprint last friday, at first I thought the fast draining battery was because I hadn't charged it after taking it out of the box and setting it up but then I saw that 5-10 % drain per hour even after I charged it completely. I've tried every single possible fix, I've gone through 3 complete discharge cycles, one of them using the Battery Doctor Pro app, I've also reset the whole phone twice and set it up as a new phone each time, and I've reset the network settings about 4-5 times but nothing has helped. In fact, in the time that I've spent writing this post my iphone has lost about 2%, can someone please give me some new method of fixing the battery life on this phone other than waiting for the new IOS update.

Here are pictures of my amazing battery life -_-photo 1.PNG

All I did in these times was answer text messages and immediately put the phone back on lock -___-

I had an issue with my first iPhone 4S.  I called up VerizonWireless and told them how the battery needed to be charged THREE times in the same day...and I wasn't even doing much.  The third time I charged it (notfications & location off, display brightness turned down to about 30%, etc.), I waited until the battery indicator showed 100%, unplugged the charger, and went to bed.  When I woke up about 6-7 hours later, the battery was under 50%.  I received a replacement phone from Verizon this week and the first day the batter seemed to be okay.  But tonight I noticed the battery went from 100% to about 87% in about 1 hour.  This is completely not acceptable.  With all of the functions turned off and apps closed, what's the point of having the iPhone?  I never had any battery issues with my DROID.  Boy, I am starting to regret switching over to the iPhone (oh, and I miss the Google Navigation on the DROID which was for free and came with turn-by-turn voice directions...figured I throw that out there too...hehehe).  I hope Apple is doing something to look into this.  This really is crazy.

The solution with the iphone 4s battery is that you have to drain your battery until it will turn itself off and then do a full charge dont use it while it is charging - i went to work in the morning at 7 my phone was fully charged, i use my phone for games and browsing exactly 1 hour during my breaktime plus i got 4 phone calls with a total talk time of 7min. 13secs. and when i got home at 6:48 pm i have 78% left on my phone. I had the wifi turned ON, Data ON, location ON. I did the same thing again drain to zero than charge 100% for the next day i played games straight 1 hour during breaks  no phone calls though and when i got home at 5:16 i have 84% left. So i think you can get the real battery life after 2 times of discharging (0%) and charging (100%) your iphone4s. Hoping this little info. will work out to you guys also.

NOW THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING SINCE DAY 1 !!

Out of the box the iphones LIPO has a storage charge ONLY. So if you just plug it in and then start to just use it, you HAVEN'T CALIBRATED THE LIPO BATT YET !  You will get only about 40-50% capaicty just out of the box. THIS IS ALL WHAT EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT.

2 COMPLETE DISCHARGE (0% PHONE SHUT OFF ) Then CHARGE TO 100%. Will Calibrate the system AND you will then have FULL LIPO CAPACITY Availible.

I Cycled both my wifes and mine and they are both at full cell capacity. Have ALL locations, wifi,BT, Push,Mail and Icloud sync all on. After a full 12hr day with 30 min calls, texting and playing with SIRI I get home with around 89%.

Wifes is same.  Put it on the charger Now ever 3 days !!

I use High amp Lipos Sport flying so I KNow How to use them.

I must be crazy, but I've been watching my power usage over the last couple days.  I think I use less power with the WiFi on.

Oddly enough, today I used my phone more put had my WiFi on.  I turned the wifi on last night at about 30% near midnight, by 5AM I was only down to about 26%.

The iphone must transmit so much data, that using 3G uses more juice than just "surrendering" to WiFi.

I went from 100% 9:30am to now 11:30PM and I'm at 55%...far better than the last 24 hours.

    Hmmmm.

Apple seeds iOS 5.0.1 to developers, according to 9to5mac.com:

iOS 5.0.1 beta contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
    – Fixes bugs affecting battery life
    – Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
    – Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
    – Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
    – Contains security improvements

iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.

If some developer can test this new version, please tell us if it's working.

Final thought: I didn't buy a new iPhone 4S to turn off what makes iPhone a great device.

I wonder if this iOS 5.0.1 update is gonna be delta update or we have to revert back to the old way of plugging into iTunes to do a full update.

Any developer here to confirm this?

Here is a screenshot of my iphone. MORE THEN 3 DAYS STANDBY and over 6 hours use and still 14 percent left. If you are not simply here to complain and are truly looking to solve the battery issue then let your battery die until it turns off. Then plug it in and soon as it turns on turn it off and let it charge to 100 percent or about 3-4 hours. I used to get 30 hours now I get over 3 days standby. Wfi, siri, iCloud, mail etc are all on. This is my thought, I think out of the box the Iphone was not detecting the full capacity of the battery and this allows the Iphone to see the full battery charge.

Wow! This is incredible... the best so far that i have seen.

May i know what did you do with the 6 hours and 25 mins ? Were you on Wifi or 3G most of the time? Or just listening to music ?

How long have you been using this 4S ?

    What is your setting/config ?
