Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I am experiencing the same issues since the upgrade to iOS5 on my iPhone4. My phone use to last at least a day and a half on a single charge, but can barely get through on a single charge now. I have to charge my phone 2 times a day.

    Not a good look Apple.

I believe the update fix from apple whit the 5.0.1 FW will resolve the standby drains that many people suffer around, but will not do anything for the people like me who complain not from standby drain, but from exagerated usage drain, like texting and browsing excessive drain, and why? because this is essencially the same battery from the iphone4 but being drained by hungry dual core processor instead of a much slower single core A4 cpu from i4.

Since apple didnt work on any visual changes from iphone4 to the 4s they had time to develop a better and stronger battery to deal whit the dual core cpu, it feels like they stuck a ferrari engine in a renault 5 chassis, it just cant handle the stress and fall appart.

or could create some kind of software activating dual core usage just for stress situations like 3d gaming or other cpu stress situations, no need for dual core speed for texting and other basic functions imo. even a dual/single core enable/disable button would be nice, just like a 3g enable/disable also.

try to receive and send 15 text messages from an iphone 4 and from a iphone 4s, iphone 4 should drain around 2% or less and the iphone 4s you can imagine something between 5% and 10% in worst case.

yeah sure, the standby time is fine,i manage to keep at 100% for 4/5hours in standby but as soon as i start to use it the battery just falls appart in basic actions like sending texts, and just browsing around. it doesnt do anything for me having a phone is these conditions.

the only thing i can consider normal in this iphone 4s is listening to music, the drain is pretty normal doing this in airplane mode.

I guess i will have to suck it up till a new iphone is released next year, either that or go back to the iphone 4.

    Hi Everyone.

I think that I found source the problem . I updated to iOS5 5 days ago and right after I made update I noticed problem with battery life. I didn't change setting from four version to five , I didn't install new applications , but I saw problem . I tried to find source of problem from Sunday , I did every recomendation changes include turned off location service of Time Zone , also I tried to turn off notification services , but it didn't help , the usage of battery was changed unregular during the day . One time I noticed that the phone receives emails not according to fetch time configuration. For example : I had set fetch time to 15 minutes , but emails were recieved every 6-8 minutes , sometime it was 6 minutes , sometime it was 8 . When I changed the fetch time for example to 30 minutes emails were  recieved every 15-20 minutes , but what was very ineteresting : every time the interval of the time between recieving emails were changed . it wasn't constant value.

Someone knows something about the problem in iOS5 ?! The interval between every receiving emails wasn't constant value and depends on the problem the phone has different discharge during the day.

Still no solution and Apple still haven't broken their silence yet regarding the iPhone 4S battery issue. How long has this phone been on sale for? I still like Apple products, but those feelings have been declining. A long term solution regarding this battery issue would involve just returning my phone to Sprint and requesting either a full refund, or an exchange for another phone. I would like to "downgrade" to the less problematic iPhone 4, but the 8GB version is the only offering (I have a 64GB iPhone 4S).

Like many others have stated here, this is a major disappointment, especially given the cost of the phone. This was my first iPhone purchase, but unfortunately I purchased a "best selling" lemon. None of the methods previously described have helped out my issue.

This will probably be my last phone purchase from Apple. Get with the program, Apple! Being silent is not helping out with the many frustrated customers!

I agree, i have seen the same and even raised a error report to apple, its very odd, other people i know see the same problem, very random fetch times. I have set for one hour, and it seems to fetch, at best, at 40mins !. They def need to fix this !, the amount of time my phone seems to fetch it might as well be on push !. Total waste of battery for sure !

They have broken their silence? They've said that they're aware of the problem and are working hard to fix it with the 5.0.1 update. The update is already available for Developers and they're expecting to release the official version to the public 'in the next few weeks'.

Just have to wait a couple of weeks before they release it to everyone else.

I had the same issue when I updated my iOS5 few days back.  I had to charge my battery 2 times some times 3 time a day.  Very very sad from APPLE  never expected this.

Now Apple just found the the problem.

These threads never cease to make me laugh.  Everytime apple release something that hassome glitches people make it out to be the end of the world and how they will never give apple a dime again (what is a dime by the way?).

The fact is that apple have launched yet another leading edge software update and a few people have had problems with it.  Myself included, my battery lasts about 7hrs from 100% to flat.  They sold 4 Million phones in the first week and god knows how many millions would have upgraded.  So a very small minority are effected yet a fix is being worked on and quickly.

We have had batterry issues in a few releases of iOS as a recall and in due course they have allways been fixed.  Once again it looks like the teething problems are being addressed and rapidly.  All credit to apple in my view.

Try closing all the apps in the multi-task tab that appears at the bottom when you press the menu button twice. It works for my phone. Also, the wi-fi being on consumes a lot of battery so I suggest turning it off whenever you don't use it. Hope this helps! www.techreviewslive.blogspot.com

I have had an iPhone 4S from launch day with a S/N starting with D, the battery was terrible. I was lucky if I got 1hr 30mins usage and a 1.5 days standby. I took the phone to the genius bar this last Tuesday, he tested it and said the battery was fine, he showed me the results. They said at the last charge I had gotten over 5hrs usage and over 2 days standby and I had 89% left when I plugged it in, now with those figures I would have been overjoyed.

Unfortunately they weren't correct, the last charge I had actually only got 1hr 30mins usage and just over 1 days standby, the phone turned off at 1%. Then he noticed my phone had never made a phone call according to the test software, this was incorrect as the phone itself was showing several calls had been made. The Genius's conclusion was that something was seriously wrong with the 4S, and he he changed it. The new iPhone 4S serial starts with a C.

Both iPhones had everything turned on except Bluetooth and Location Services Setting Time Zone and the new phone was restored using the faulty phones back up.

Now it's Thursday morning and the battery is what the first phone should have been, it received a full charge on Tuesday night, and it now has over 3hrs usage and 1day 12hrs standby with 51% remaining.

Is there a problem with serial numbers starting with D or was it a rogue phone, how many other people are being told by Apple there batteries are fine when clearly they aren't, either due to faulty testing software or faulty phones giving incorrect readings on the software, I would think the latter is most likely.
