Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

I am glad they have finally realised there is a problem, as mine sits on my desk and loses 10-15% in a morning, and I haven't even made a call, push email is off, as is location, and all the other draining features, **** even turned off 3G to try and lengthen the time the battery lasts.

forgot to mention, I did not restore from my old 3gs - I set up the 4s as new and just sync'd my apps, music, photos, contacts and calendars - battery life is still very poor.

Same thing on my 4S. I'm on WiFi all day, all location services off, bluetooth off and barely using it. 41% @ 6pm. Have already drained the battery 3 cycles.

Just lost the first 10% on my 40min commute to work.By the time I get home I'll be at 15%.

This is my first iPhone and I'm totally dissapointed. My old blackberry would last 3 days working non-stop. All the technology is useless without battery life. I hope this is only a software issue and can be dealt quickly.

I have the same problem with my iphone 4s battery as well. I tried all the options but still the battery is going automatically. for example, my phone charging was full last night but when i woke up in the morning - the battery life was 79%.

I keep seeing users say they "turned off 3G" in an attempt to save battery. Pretty neat trick, as iOS 5.0 doesn't allow you to toggle 3G on the 4S.

Based on my experience and a couple of other threads, the issue appears to be tied to notification center.

I am running a 3GS with iOS 5.  Before update, battery would be ~50% after a full day of medium use.  After the update, no usage would have my battery at 0% after 8 hours.

I am not running a lot of background apps, so that wasn't an issue. Notification center was behaving strangely, so I shut down some of the items... no help.  I then shut down all of them.  Note, I still get banners, alerts, etc.  I just set everything to Notification Center: Off.

Problem solved.  Battery life after 8 hours of medium use is ~60%, which is about what I would get before.  I have been running in this mode for 6 days, and have not seen battery issues like I did in the first few days running iOS 5.

I have to charge my 4s every night (all night). The battery life is about the same as my 2 yr old 3gs.  One of my primary reasons for upgrading was for longer battery life, which I have yet to experience. 

The Guardian newspaper published something about this. If you go to location services and system services and turn off setting time zone, it seems to fix it. At least it seems to have made a huge difference for me

I read today that Apple has acknowledged the problem and will be issuing a software update to correct it.  No time was given dfor the release of the update.

I have an Iphone 4 and upgraded to IOS5 ,  and restored my backup and proceeded to watch my battery drain to 20% in 3 hours .

" The Fix"  that worked for me was to delete  ALL my email accounts  ( I had a gmail account,  my private webserver email account and a corporate email account).  Then I recreated/re-registered all three accounts on the phone from scratch.

I think what was happening is the accounts were constantly trying to update (either over wifi or 3g -if I turned off wifi). I could tell something was fishy with the email - because when i would go into one of the accounts to do a "mass edit delete"  - i noticed that I couldn't finish selecting the emails that I wanted to delete without the screen refreshing an unselecting all the emails I had just tried to select for delete.

There are less than 4000 comments on this thread.  They've sold easily over 4 million phones ths far (and likely ore).

I think you are taking a rather simplistic view of the situation and making some pretty unreasonable assumptions. Let's just say that all other phones do in fact have much poorer battery usage than a problem-free iphone. A user switching from such a phone over to an iphone that _does_ exhibit battery problems would likely have no clue that there was even an issue. Moreover, you assume that every person who owns an iphone will go to these forums to post their problems. Most of them do it the normal way -- they complain to the seller (be it their network carrier or their local apple store). Think about it -- if you buy a new, expensive car and something seemed to be wrong with it, you're more likely going to take it back to the dealer and not self-diagnose the problem. And if you care enough, you just might post about it -- but probably not even on the car maker's forums but elsewhere.

Regardless, the fact that people are complaining about it suggests that it's there is in fact something amiss. Whether it's a software, hardware, or user misuse issue will be left up to time to tell. Saying that it is statistically insignificant is a nice way to destroy your user base. It only takes a small few to make enough noise to cause some bad PR -- just google "iphone 4s battery problems" and you'll see.
