Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Apple states that the 4S has had "A Few" problems with battery life. We just wanted to add that the battery life is not just an isolated case, and we are one of the "Few Problems" they need to fix! Frustrated in Chattanooga, and a brand new Apple iPad owner and I phone user... all in the same week! This Battry Problem failure is a poor tribute to Steve!

Same thing on my 4S. I'm on WiFi all day, all location services off, bluetooth off and barely using it. 41% @ 6pm. Have already drained the battery 3 cycles.

Just lost the first 10% on my 40min commute to work.By the time I get home I'll be at 15%.

This is my first iPhone and I'm totally dissapointed. My old blackberry would last 3 days working non-stop. All the technology is useless without battery life. I hope this is only a software issue and can be dealt quickly.

Have you tried Reset Network Settings to see if that helps? It will result in having to re-configure things like wifi access points, but I have found that it usually fixes the battery drain issue. Perhaps it might help you during the wait for an update from Apple

I'd prefer Apple be honest about it AND fix the problem.  No one believes Apple when their PR machine purports, "[a] small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices."

I pre-ordered the iPhone 4S, so I'm one of the first people to have the phone. The first time I heard about this was a thread on slashdot today. I haven't had any issues with battery life at all. I switched from a Droid to iphone, and fast-draining battery issues is one of the reasons why.

I don't want to minimize the issues people are having. However, I wonder what am I doing differently than what other people are doing that I'm not having a battery issue?

This is simple, the reason that the phone is no better than the last phone is because it is the SAME PHONE! Android is way better

I'm laughing my face off here. I just posted before you that I switched from Android to iPhone 4S because my Droid's battery would drain like crazy even if I didn't use it, and iPhone by comparison has been wonderful. I'd say troll fail, but here I am replying.

Just got the iphone 4S yesterday and both days the battery almost died after a full charge, with very little use. Can't imagine how quick it would die if I used apps, games or videos. Wanted to add my comment since Apple said it recognizes some minor problems listed in this discussion. The problem is more than minor, I barely used the phone each day and it died. I bought an extra battery pack and I hope I get reimbursed since they are saying it will take a few weeks to resolve

Other than the battery life, this phone is great. They finally admitted it and I am waiting for the software update which is supposed to fix this problem. This kind of an amazng phone cannot be made use to its potential with poor battery life.

I understand what you mean I am having the same problem with my iphone4s. This really ***** that I have to plug my phone in every few hours. I have tried endless things and nothing seems to really work. I have even tried to put the phone in airplane mode and still the battery gets drained as if I am receiving call and text messages. To top everything off as of today I can not get my Siri to work out of the blue she is unable to connect to the network even with full service. I don't know how much good this is but apparently Apple as just agreed that the ios5 is being the issue and stated that they have found some bugs and are working on sending out an update in a few weeks. This is the article I was looking at:

I also preordered it,and am not having issues.  Okay, so I have a little less life and have to recharge mid day.  However...I use it CONSTANTLY, and always forget to close out apps, forget to look for wifi and have it on optimal visual settings.  I hope the software fix helps, but it isn't every singe phone.  On another note, to someone who angrily asked if they tested it at all...did you not see how fast this came out?  The goal was for Steve to see Siri meet the world, and that didn't happen.  So, we wait for an update and go on with life.

    Oh WOW!

    I just found the fix!

It is so simple I could not believe it.  Basically all you have to do is leave well enough alone and Apple will release a fix for this within the next week or two.

I could not believe I spent so much wasted time trying this or trying that when all of the suggestions are bs.

Went to Verizon a week ago and had them disconnect from the network and reload all the software from scratch and had the same problem with the battery life draining quickly.  I have not had it quite as bad as some reported here, but it was pretty considerable.  They told me to turn off Bluetooth and Wifi to extend the battery life, but that defeats the purpose of a phone with those capabilities.  I originally thought that iTunes or Pandora was running in the background and running it down, but confirmed that that was not happening.  Very frustrating in an otherwise great phone.  They gave me a number to call to have it replaced, but it sounds like I would get another problem device in its place.
